Item Rendimiento ejecutivo en estudiantes de la Facultad de Psicología de la Universidad de Cuenca en el periodo 2024-2025(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-02-28) Segarra Macancela, Karla Gabriela; Webster Cordero, Felipe EdmundoExecutive functions (EF) comprise a set of advanced cognitive abilities, including planning, decision-making, cognitive flexibility, self-control, selective attention, and problem-solving. These abilities influence academic performance and adaptation to the university environment. Although these skills have been widely studied in other contexts, there is a lack of specific research on their development in university students. The general objective of this study was to compare the executive performance of first- and ninth-semester students in the Psychology program. The methodological approach adopted was quantitative, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, and descriptive design. A sample of 52 students was selected, including 28 first-semester and 24 ninth-semester students, with a similar number of males and females. To assess executive functions, the Tower of Hanoi test was used, which measures planning, working memory, and cognitive flexibility. Additionally, sociodemographic data, as well as the time and movements employed, were recorded. The results suggested that neither the academic semester nor the participants' sex significantly influenced executive performance. Therefore, the research related the type of alcohol consumption with sociodemographic variables in 971 students of the University of Cuenca. The research had a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional and descriptive-correlational approach. The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Questionnaire (AUDIT) and a sociodemographic card were applied. It was found that 61.7% presented occasional consumption, 19.57%, abstinence and 19.36% in problematic consumption. In addition, a statistically significant association was found between the type of alcohol consumption and sex, socioeconomic level, family relationships, age range and study cycle. In conclusion, occasional alcohol consumption predominates among students, with low dependence rates, related to sociodemographic variables such as sex, family relationships, semester and socioeconomic level. Facultad de Psicología, 2026-03-11) Hurtado Alvarez, Lorena Fernanda; Buele Ordoñez, Escarleth Jordana; Webster Cordero, Edmundo FelipePersonality is an enduring pattern that determines how an individual perceives, interacts with, and reflects on the environment and on themselves; however, alterations may occur, such as personality disorders, which are persistent patterns of inner experiences and behaviors that differ significantly from the individual’s cultural norms. Certain personality disorders are associated with violent behavior. In the Ecuadorian context, specifically in the city of Cuenca, a pattern of violence has been identified among individuals who have committed crimes related to acts of violence against other people and who present personality traits. Understanding the personality of those who commit violent acts makes it possible to establish useful profiles for prevention and psychological intervention in forensic contexts. For this reason, the present study aimed to describe the predominance of personality traits in the aforementioned population, based on the results of the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory III (MCMI-III). The study was quantitative and descriptive in nature, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional design. A database of 203 male individuals who had allegedly committed acts of violence against one or more people and were referred to the Institute of Criminology, Criminalistics, and Family Psychosocial Intervention was used. A descriptive statistical analysis was carried out using the SPSS 30 program. The results identified a predominance of antisocial, avoidant, narcissistic, and compulsive personality disorders. This makes it possible to establish a psychological profile that can guide future therapeutic interventions and prevention strategies in forensic and psychological contexts. Facultad de Psicología, 2026-03-11) González Cedillo, María Gracia; Delgado Quezada, Tania LorenaIntolerance of uncertainty and anxiety are psychological phenomena that have a greater impact during the final years of university education. These are associated with aspirational factors, high academic workload, financial concerns, and the transition into the workforce, among other situational factors that affect students’ mental health. Therefore, the objective of this study is to describe the levels of anxiety and intolerance of uncertainty among ninth-cycle students of the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Cuenca during the 2025–2026 academic period. To achieve this, a quantitative approach with a descriptive, cross-sectional design was employed. The Manifest Anxiety Scale for Adults (AMAS-A) and the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale (IIS) were administered to a sample of 62 students. The results indicated that anxiety levels were characterized by a prominent presence of physiological symptoms. Likewise, clinically significant levels of intolerance of uncertainty were identified, with an average score of 69.92%. Gender differences were also observed, with women reporting higher levels in both variables. In conclusion, the findings suggest that the student population is experiencing a period of high academic demands, highlighting the importance of promoting institutional strategies aimed at strengthening autonomy and adaptive anxiety management. Facultad de Psicología, 2026-02-19) Heras Calderón, María Paz; Ulloa Amoroso, Ana Isabel; Reyes Trelles, Xavier FabricioIn the present day, the relationship between substance use and criminal attitudes represents an urgent problem, due to its growing prevalence and the associated social impact. The study aims to analyze the relationship between substance use disorder and criminal attitudes in adults treated at the Specialized Centers for the Treatment of People with Problematic Consumption of Alcohol and other Drugs (CETAD) in the city of Cuenca, during the period from September 2025 to February 2026. It follows a quantitative approach, with a non- experimental, cross-sectional design and a correlational scope. Work will be done with the entire population, composed of all users who meet the inclusion criteria in three CETAD centers in the city. For data collection, a sociodemographic sheet will be used, which collects psychiatric and substance use history, as well as the Criminal Sentiment Scale Modified (CSS- M), a validated instrument that allows for the evaluation of pro-criminal attitudes across three dimensions: attitudes toward the law, tolerance for norm transgression, and identification with other offenders. Data will be analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings will allow for the generation of scientific evidence to strengthen therapeutic intervention and social reinsertion programs in addiction treatment contexts, contributing to the comprehensive understanding of this problem from a public health and social justice perspective.Item Alfabetización Digital y Principales Preocupaciones de Madres y Padres con Adolescentes Ecuatorianos(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Psicología, 2026-03-10) Vanegas Vélez, Iván Mateo; Arpi Peñaloza, Nube del RocíoAdolescence is a developmental stage characterized by significant changes that generate multidimensional parental concerns about the adolescent, focus on physical and mental health, academic performance, the risk of substance, and the emergence of digital media use. Alongside, technological advancement has intensified these concerns, while the digital divide between generations limits parental capacity to appropriately guide and support adolescents regarding technological use. The approach was quantitative, with a non-experimental design and correlational scope. A total of 342 parents of students aged 12 to 17 years from public educational institutions participated; the EU Kids Online survey for parents was used. Parents with basic education exhibit lower digital competencies, concerns increase during middle adolescence, particularly regarding health and academic performance, parents of male children report greater caution regarding substance use, and digital literacy does not predict parental concerns. Parental concerns vary according to adolescent developmental stage and child gender; similarly, parental digital literacy depends on educational level, whereas digital literacy is not related to parental concerns. Facultad de Psicología, 2026-03-12) Guzhñay Guzñay, Stephany Samantha; Cordero Hermida, María FernandaThe formation of identity is a continuous and complex process that, in the context of motherhood, reaches an inflection point when integrating new demands at both the individual and social levels. Consequently, the postpartum period constitutes a phase of high psychological vulnerability in which the mother's mental health may be negatively impacted. Therefore, this study sought to establish a correlation between maternal identity and postpartum depression in mothers treated at hospitals in the city of Cuenca during the 2025 period. A cross-sectional, non-experimental study was conducted, utilizing a quantitative approach and a correlational scope. The sample comprised 82 postpartum women aged between 18 and 43 years. Data were collected through the application of the Utrecht-Management of Identity Commitments Scale-Parental Identity (UMICS-PI), the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), and a sociodemographic data sheet. It was found that the mothers exhibited a stable identity and adaptive exploration of the maternal role. Furthermore, a relatively high prevalence of depression was noted in the studied sample (24.4 %). However, no statistically significant relationship was found between these variables. The analysis highlighted the role of pregnancy desirability as a predictor of risk for depressive symptomatology. Thus, it is concluded that the affective factor may be more determinant than the structural identity of the maternal role, and the early identification of negative affect towards the pregnancy could mitigate the risk of suffering from postpartum depression. Facultad de Psicología, 2026-03-06) Peña Cordero, Daniela Alejandra; Ochoa Arizaga, Adriana Carolina; Mendoza Eskola, Juanita CatalinaThe present study provides a descriptive analysis of personality patterns and clinical syndromes observed in individuals who have experienced violence, perpetrated violence, or presented both roles. It is a quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive, and cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 58 anonymized records corresponding to the results of the MCMI-IV instrument, applied to 35 women and 23 men, collected at the Institute of Criminology, Criminalistics, and Family Psychosocial Intervention of the University of Cuenca. A non-probabilistic convenience sampling method was used. Data tabulation and analysis were carried out using Excel software, applying descriptive statistics, specifically frequencies, percentages, and measures of central tendency. The results revealed the presence of social desirability and clinically relevant personality patterns in the evaluated population, with prominent schizoid, avoidant, melancholic, narcissistic, histrionic, tempestuous, and compulsive traits. In addition, symptomatology related to anxiety, mood disturbances, posttraumatic stress, and substance use was identified. Facultad de Psicología, 2026-03-13) Guamán Chicaiza, Adriana Fernanda; González Cajamarca, Doménica Lissbeth; Ortiz Ochoa, William AlfredoExecutive functions (EF), understood as higher cognitive processes involved in self-regulation, inhibitory control, and efficient information management, become relevant when their assessment incorporates a parental perspective, as they provide an ecological measure of a child's executive functioning in everyday contexts. This study analyzed the relationship between EF as perceived by parents and performance in Mathematics and Language in 154 Ecuadorian schoolchildren aged 8 to 11. A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational design was used, employing the CHEXI questionnaire and school results from the 2024-2025 period. Parents reported an executive profile within normative ranges, and a significant negative relationship was found between working memory and academic performance, with no associations in inhibition or differences by sex or grade level. In a context of limited research, the study demonstrates that parental reports can provide relevant information for identifying difficulties associated with academic performance, serving as a complementary indicator in natural settings. Facultad de Psicología, 2026-03-11) Bermeo Velásquez, Karen Patricia; Bernal Sarmiento, Luis AlbertoThe study aimed to analyze the relationship between self-transcendence and flow state in adult judokas belonging to the Veterans team in the city of Cuenca, during the period 2025-2026. The population consisted of 57 athletes; after data cleaning, one case was excluded due to missing values on the Self-Transcendence Scale, leaving a final sample of 56 participants. The Reed Self-Transcendence Scale (STS) and the Flow State Scale (FSS) were administered via a digital form after a regular training session. The data were processed in Excel and analyzed using SPSS v29. Due to the non-compliance with normality assumptions, non-parametric tests were employed. A moderate and statistically significant positive correlation was identified between Self-Transcendence and Flow State (rs = ,50; p< ,001; n = 56), demonstrating that higher levels of self-transcendence were associated with higher levels of flow experience during judo practice. Overall, the findings supported the hypothesis of a positive association between both variables, with the inherent limitations of a cross-sectional design. Facultad de Psicología, 2026-03-10) Lima Matute, Keyli Mishell; Conforme Zambrano, Elsa GardeniaIn today’s digital landscape, the use of information and communication technology has become an essential component of adolescent development, offering meaningful opportunities for socialization and learning. However, it also exposes youth to risks such as access to sexual content. In this context, it is crucial to examine the socio-emotional competencies involved in managing these risks. The study aimed to analyze the relationship between socio-emotional competencies based on the Covitality model and the use of sexual content among adolescents in Cuenca, Ecuador. Employing a quantitative approach with a non-experimental, correlational design with a sample of 717 students aged 12 to 17 years (M = 15; SD = 2) from public secondary schools in Cuenca. The study employed the EU Kids Online survey (Garmendia et al., 2019), applied in 19 European and 4 Latin American countries, and the Social Emotional Health Survey–Secondary (Furlong et al., 2020). Results showed that overall Covitality was negatively associated with both the reception (rs = –.375) and the general use (rs = –.350) of sexual content, but not with executing this practice. Additionally, the competencies of Belief in Self and Engaged Living exhibited significant correlations. In conclusion, socio-emotional competencies can act as protective factors against the consumption of sexual content among adolescents, underscoring the importance of promoting Covitality as a resource for safer and more adaptive digital use. Facultad de Psicología, 2026-03-10) Quezada Chillogallo, Ariel Sebastián; Toledo Luna, Edwin Alexander; Bernal Sarmiento, Luis AlbertoPsychological flexibility, conceptualized within Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), is defined as the ability to contact the present moment with openness and acceptance, and to persist or change behavior in accordance with personal values. In the Ecuadorian context, levels of psychological distress and the demand for psychological well-being services have increased significantly, highlighting the need to understand protective psychological variables in clinical populations. The aim of this study was to analyze psychological flexibility and inflexibility in a clinical population receiving care in different mental health services of the University of Cuenca during the period 2025–2026. A quantitative approach was employed, using a non-experimental, cross-sectional design with a correlational–comparative scope. The sample consisted of patients over 18 years of age with a psychological diagnosis, who participated voluntarily after providing informed consent. Data were collected using the Multidimensional Psychological Flexibility Inventory (MPFI) and a sociodemographic questionnaire. Descriptive and inferential analyses were conducted to examine levels of psychological flexibility and inflexibility and their relationship with sociodemographic and clinical variables. The results showed intermediate levels of global psychological flexibility and inflexibility, with significant differences in the acceptance and committed action subdimensions according to clinical diagnosis. Global inflexibility scores did not differ between diagnostic groups; a gender difference was observed in defusion, and age was related only to certain inflexibility subdimensions. In conclusion, psychological flexibility functions as a key transdiagnostic process in clinical contexts, with effects concentrated on specific subprocesses rather than on global measures. Facultad de Psicología, 2026-03-10) Salinas Siranaula, Melissa Tatiana; Chiriboga Cambisaca, Micaela del Cisne; Ortiz Vivar, Xiomar del RocíoSocial media has become a common means of interaction, especially among young people, where they are exposed to idealized aesthetic standards. This has raised concerns about its impact on body dissatisfaction. According to several studies, there is a negative relationship between intensive social media use and dissatisfaction with one’s own body image.Students in the Performing Arts program, due to their connection with bodily expression and the promotion of their careers on social media, may be more vulnerable to the aesthetic standards disseminated on digital platforms. The general objective of this research was to describe social media use and body image dissatisfaction among students in the Performing Arts program at the University of Cuenca. To achieve this, a sample of 53 students (men and women) from the Performing Arts program at the University of Cuenca was studied. This research followed a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental cross-sectional design and a descriptive scope. For the variable of social media use, an ad hoc questionnaire was used; for the variable of body dissatisfaction, the BSQ questionnaire was applied. The results showed that most students did not present body dissatisfaction. Regarding social media use, the most widely used platform was TikTok. In addition, students reported using social media for 3 to 4 hours or more per day, with daily access exceeding four times. Facultad de Psicología, 2026-03-09) Quizhpi Tacuri, Juan Elías; Ortega Zeas, Bryam Andrés; Tacuri Reino, Rene DavidThe development of cognitive abilities such as Theory of Mind (ToM) and reading comprehension is essential for academic performance and social adaptation during childhood. Both abilities are interrelated and play a key role in interpreting mental states, making inferences, and constructing meaning from written texts. However, in the Ecuadorian context, few studies have examined these variables jointly during middle childhood. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between Theory of Mind and reading skills in fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grade elementary school students from the city of Cuenca. A quantitative approach was adopted, using a non-experimental, descriptive-correlational, and cross-sectional design. The sample comprised 34 students selected from an anonymized database. The instruments used were the Theory of Mind Assessment Test (PETOM) and the Revised Reading Processes Assessment Battery (PROLEC-R). The results revealed significant correlations between cognitive Theory of Mind and several reading skills, including word reading, pseudoword reading, grammatical structures, and text comprehension. In addition, specific associations were found between grammatical structures and affective and total Theory of Mind. These findings highlight the relevance of social cognition to the development of reading comprehension during middle childhood and provide evidence for designing educational strategies to strengthen it.Item Violencia en el noviazgo en estudiantes de la Facultad de Psicología de la Universidad de Cuenca, periodo 2025-2026(Universidad de Cuenca. The Dating Violence Questionnaire and a sociodemographic form were used for data collection. The results showed that 87.7% of students had experienced at least one expression of violence by their partners. Emotional neglect and coercion were the most frequently reported domains, while physical and instrumental violence were the most uncommon. Sociodemographic variables such as gender, age, academic semester, and place of origin showed significant associations with specific domains of violence. The study concludes that dating violence among university students is a multidimensional issue influenced by diverse personal and contextual factors.Item Estudio de la Madurez Neuropsicológica en Infantes de 5 Años en la Unidad Educativa Gabriel Cevallos García, Septiembre 2024-Febrero 2025(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Psicología, 2026-03-10) Maldonado Paredes, Ashley Milena; Bernal Arellano, Walter MarceloThis research describes the neuropsychological maturity profile in 5-year-old children of the "Gabriel Cevallos García" Educational Unit, September 2024 - February 2025. The researcher used The Child Neuropsychological Maturity Questionnaire (CUMANIN) alongside a sociodemographic profile. The sample included 25 schoolchildren (19 boys, 6 girls) whose characteristics were analyzed based on sex, area of residence, and the educational level of their primary caregiver. The results revealed that verbal fluency was the most developed and satisfactory, while visoperception presented more difficulties, a deficit range. In addition, attention, psychomotor skills, and comprehensive language were in the alert range, evidencing the need for specific interventions. The analysis highlighted the influence of sociodemographic factors on neuropsychological development. Children with caregivers with a higher level of education performed better, while those in rural areas faced challenges in nonverbal and visual perceptual skills. These findings highlight the need for early intervention programs and educational strategies that enhance caregivers' abilities and support holistic child development in at-risk contexts. Facultad de Psicología, 2026-03-09) Ordoñez Guillca , Sayda Jamilet; Llanos Quilambaqui, Jenny Cecilia; Reyes Trelles, Xavier FabricioCraving and self-efficacy are fundamental factors in addressing the global problem of substance use disorders, particularly in terms of their role in the risk of relapse. This study analyzed the relationship between self-efficacy and craving in patients with substance use disorders undergoing residential treatment. A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, correlational design was used. A total of 176 adult men with a mean age of 35 years participated in specialized centers in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. The instruments used for data collection were the Brief Situational Confidence Questionnaire (BSCQ), the Mannheim Craving Scale (MaCS), and a sociodemographic/clinical form. The results showed that 71% of participants had high selfefficacy, with higher scores in situations involving pleasant emotions (82.4%) and physical discomfort (80.1%), and lower scores in challenges to self-control (68.2%) and unpleasant emotions (72.7%). Craving had a mean of 12.93 (SD = 8.06), being higher in poly-users. A significant negative correlation between self-efficacy and craving was confirmed (ρ = -.282, p < .01), suggesting a possible protective effect of self-efficacy. The findings are discussed in depth regarding sociodemographic and clinical profiles, situational and global self-efficacy patterns, global craving intensity and diagnosis-specific variations, and the role of residential treatment context as a mediator. The study underscores the need for tailored interventions according to the type of substance consumed. Facultad de Psicología, 2026-03-10) Zambrano Heredia, Cristopher Josue; Ortiz Ochoa, William AlfredoThe objective of this research was to analyze the relationship between emotional intelligence and reading comprehension in 198 students aged 8 to 11 from seven educational institutions in Cuenca, Ecuador. A descriptive-correlational design was used, and the TMMS-24 and the PROLEC battery were administered. Descriptive results showed that 61.6% of students presented low emotional attention, while emotional clarity and emotional repair were mostly at adequate levels (56.6% and 47.5%, respectively). In reading processes, between 65% and 71% achieved expected performance in basic recognition and decoding tasks, but 46.5% showed difficulties in sentence comprehension and 17.2% in punctuation. Spearman’s correlation analysis indicated no significant associations between the dimensions of emotional intelligence and reading comprehension, except for a small positive correlation between emotional clarity and grammatical structures (ρ = .17, p < .05). The findings suggest that emotional intelligence is not a global predictor of reading performance, although certain components, such as emotional clarity, may be linked to specific linguistic demands. The importance of integrating socioemotional development into educational programs to strengthen reading comprehension and student well-being is discussed. Facultad de Psicología, 2026-03-05) Reinoso Alvarez, Dayanna Aracely; Aguilar Sizer, Mónica ElisaEmerging adulthood, understood as a transitional period characterized by identity consolidation and the pursuit of autonomy, constitutes a key stage for analyzing romantic relationships, as it is during this period that the first stable affective models are formed. This study aimed to understand the expectations that university students aged 18 to 25 from the University of Cuenca assign to romantic relationships, exploring the elements that shape them, gender differences, and the influence of family models and the sociocultural context. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed through semi-structured interviews with ten participants selected through chain sampling and analyzed using thematic coding. The findings indicate that intimacy is understood as trust and emotional openness, passion as a component linked to communication and affective stability, and commitment as a daily choice grounded in emotional responsibility. Gender differences appear in emotional emphases rather than opposing perspectives, while family experiences and the sociocultural context—integrating traditional values, contemporary discourses, and digital dynamics— significantly shape affective expectations. Overall, romantic relationships are configured through the interaction between personal experiences, family learning, and current cultural frameworks, highlighting the importance of understanding these bonds from a contextualized perspective. Facultad de Psicología, 2026-02-27) Méndez Esparza, Macarena Samantha; López Alvarado, Silvia LucíaThe Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) defines maltreatment as the deliberate use of physical force or power, whether real or implied, against oneself or others, with the potential to cause psychological harm, injury, or negatively affect development. This issue is also present in dating relationships and generates significant consequences for those who experience it. The general objective of this research was to describe the presence, type, and level of dating violence among students of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Cuenca during the 2024–2025 academic period. The specific objectives were: (1) to determine the predominant type of dating violence and (2) to identify the levels of violence according to sociodemographic variables such as sex, age, academic cycle, and sexual orientation. The study followed a quantitative approach with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, and descriptive design. The sample consisted of 268 students selected through non-probability convenience sampling. El Cuestionario de Maltrato en el Noviazgo (CMN), translated as the Dating Violence Questionnaire, was administered as a validated instrument to assess different dimensions of violence within dating relationships. The results showed low levels of violence across all evaluated dimensions (psychological, physical, economic, sexual, and sociocultural), with psychological violence being the predominant type. Physical, economic, and sexual violence were mainly concentrated in the “no violence” category, while sociocultural influence presented low levels across all sociodemographic groups. These findings contribute to the understanding of dating violence in university contexts.
