(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Filosofía, Letras y Ciencias de la Educación, 2025-11-05) Camas Vaca, Tania Noemi; Garzón Bermeo, Erika Jhoanna; Coronel Rosero, Claudio Xavier
This research explores the transformative impact of Drama-Based Pedagogy (DBP) on the development of expressive and communicative skills in second-year high school students at the Herlinda Toral Educational Unit. The initiative arose from the necessity to reconfigure Physical Education (PE) beyond mere motor activity, conceiving it as a space conducive to emotional exploration, the strengthening of interpersonal relationships, and the diversification of self-expression forms. To this end, a 40-session program was designed and implemented throughout the academic year, integrating dynamic activities such as mime, dramatizations, role-playing, commercial productions, and contemporary dance. The study adopted a practical and comparative approach, evaluating student performance through pretest and posttest assessments. The results evidenced significant improvements: participants demonstrated greater confidence in their communicative abilities, employing both corporal and verbal language more naturally to convey emotions. Furthermore, an optimization in their interpersonal relationships was observed, manifested in an increase in empathy, self-esteem, and a predisposition to collaborative work. The sessions were characterized by high enthusiasm, more active student participation, and a more cohesive classroom environment. These findings confirm that DBP constitutes an effective tool for comprehensive student development, generating differentiated learning experiences by prioritizing corporeality, emotionality, and verbal expression. From this perspective, PE emerges as a vital domain for expression, connection, and identity construction, underscoring that the integration of theater into the educational context not only enriches the teaching-learning process but also humanizes it.

(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Filosofía, Letras y Ciencias de la Educación, 2025-11-03) Hernández Camacho, Yuli Gabriela; Cali Jetón, Nathaly Carolina; Contreras Calle, Wilson Teodoro
In an educational context where sedentary behavior and low attention levels negatively impact learning, Active Break Programs (PPAS) emerge as an innovative alternative to enhance academic performance through movement. These breaks consist of short physical activity sessions integrated into the school schedule, initially designed to promote motor activity, but now also showing cognitive benefits. The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of a PPAS on attention capacity and academic performance in ninth and tenth-grade students from Unidad Educativa Eugenio Espejo. A non-probabilistic sample of 76 students was used (36 in the control group and 40 in the experimental group). Attention capacity (sustained and selective) was assessed using the d2 Test of Attention, and academic performance was measured through the average grades in mathematics, language, social studies, and natural sciences. For statistical analysis, the paired t-test and repeated measures ANOVA were applied using SPSS version 25. The results showed significant improvements in the experimental group in sustained attention (p = 0.000), selective attention (p = 0.000), and academic performance (p = 0.000) after the implementation of the PPAS. Intra-group variability was also observed: 1.24% in sustained attention, 8.8% in selective attention, and 9.6% in academic performance. These findings demonstrate that PPAS are an effective didactic strategy to enhance both cognitive and academic development, supporting their integration into the school environment as an efficient pedagogical tool.

During the early childhood education stage, the development of psychomotor skills is an essential pillar for the overall growth of children. The motor experiences experienced during this phase strengthen this process and promote the acquisition of fundamental skills. In this context, the implementation of innovative resources, such as the balance bike, has become a fun and effective tool for stimulating motor development in preschool. The present research, entitled "Evaluation of psychomotor skills using a balance bike in Preschool II, Manuel J. Calle Educational Unit," aimed to analyze the impact of this resource on children aged 4 and 5. The study was conducted using a mixed-method approach, with a quasi-experimental design and a quantitative longitudinal study, over a 12-week period during the 2024–2025 school year. Sixty-four students (34 boys and 30 girls) participated, selected based on inclusion criteria and with the authorization of their guardians. The Jack Capón Test was used for the assessment, an instrument that measured aspects such as body awareness, balance, general coordination, and hand-eye coordination. The pretest results reflected homogeneity in both groups, although with specific gender differences. After the intervention, significant improvements were evident: girls excelled in balance and one-foot hopping, while boys showed greater progress in ball reception and obstacle course completion. These findings confirm the usefulness of the balance bike as an effective teaching strategy for children's psychomotor development.

(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Filosofía, Letras y Ciencias de la Educación, 2025-10-31) Santana López, Carlos Francisco; Quinde Molina, Estefania Elizabeth; Contreras Calle, Wilson Teodoro
This research analyzes the strategies used by students of the Physical Activity and Sports Pedagogy program (PAFD) at the University of Cuenca to pass their subjects. The study starts from the observation that many students prioritize approval over meaningful learning, which puts in tension the educational models promoted by the institution. The general objective was to understand what strategies are considered effective to achieve approval, especially in theoretical subjects, and what factors condition their use. Through a qualitative-phenomenological approach, 12 students and 8 teachers were interviewed. The analysis, carried out with open and axial coding, combined inductive and deductive approaches. The results of the analysis of student and teacher data show that any strategy that leads to passing, regardless of its formative or ethical value, is considered effective, having a strong inclination towards strategies focused on passing, such as extra work, copying, superficial memorization and the selection of subjects according to their contribution to professional competencies. Students condition their behavior according to the perceived stimuli of the educational environment: type of evaluation, teacher's attitude, perceived difficulty of the subject and external pressure.

(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Filosofía, Letras y Ciencias de la Educación, 2025-10-29) Caisabanda Lema, Lisbeth Alexandra; Cango Japón, Pablo Alexander; Brito Parra, Jorge Eduardo
Physical Education (PE) is a fundamental pillar in the integral development of children. The principles of Hybridization of Pedagogical Models (HMP) represent a teaching approach that differs from traditional methods by positioning the student as the main actor in the learning process. This study aims to analyze the effect of a volleyball initiation program through the implementation of two pedagogical models: Sports Education (SE) and Comprehensive Sport Education (CSE) on hand-eye coordination and agility in schoolchildren. A pre-experimental design with causal scope was used, involving 36 seventh-grade students from Basic General Education (EGB), aged between 10 and 12 years. A Hybrid Didactic Unit (HDU), based on the SE and CST models, was applied over 12 weeks (21 sessions of 90 minutes each). To determine the intervention’s effect, a dependent-samples t test was performed with a significance level of 5%. Results showed significant improvements in both hand-eye coordination and agility. It is concluded that pedagogical hybridization in the context of Physical Education can be effectively applied to strengthen physical-motor performance when structured, progressive, and contextualized strategies are used.
