Propuesta de diseño interior y cambio de uso de la Junta Parroquial de Urdaneta, para la creación de una cafetería y espacio cultural multifuncional. Saraguro – Loja
(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Artes, 2026-03-04) González Ramón, Edith Paola; Lozano Guamán, Flor Margarita
Urdaneta Parish possesses significant tourism and economic potential; however, it currently faces social and cultural challenges that have limited its comprehensive development and the strengthening of its local identity. This situation has affected both economic dynamization and the consolidation of community spaces that foster social interaction and cultural expression. The Parish Council building of Urdaneta, despite its institutional and symbolic importance, presents spatial, functional, and formal deficiencies that restrict its efficient use. The existing infrastructure does not adequately respond to the contemporary needs of the community and lacks a clear representation of the parish’s cultural identity, particularly in terms of materiality, finishes, and contextual design elements. In response to these issues, this project proposes the interior redesign and adaptive reuse of the Parish Council building, transforming it into a multifunctional cultural center and café. The intervention aims to revitalize the space, reinforce local identity, and create a dynamic community hub that promotes social, cultural, and economic development within the parish.

PROPUESTA INTERIORISTA DEL CENTRO DE RECREACIÓN Y ESPARCIMIENTO “ESENCIA VIVA” UBICADO EN SAN JOSÉ - EL VALLE. CUENCA - ECUADOR
(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Artes, 2026-03-04) Molina Plaza, Edgar Geovanny; Ochoa Fernández, Paola Marcela
The growth of the older adult population in the city highlights a lack of recreational spaces specifically designed to comprehensively address their physical, cognitive, and social needs, which in turn limits their well-being, autonomy, and active participation within the community. This issue is reflected in the insufficient spatial adaptation of environments intended for this age group, as they fail to incorporate adequate criteria of comfort, accessibility, and stimulation. In response to this situation, the present proposal focuses on the interior design of a Recreation and Leisure Center for older adults, based on an analysis of their needs and capacities, and theoretically supported by Florence Clark’s Occupational Therapy in Aging and the principles of universal design. Through a specialized literature review and an analysis of the current conditions of the space, design guidelines are established to enhance occupational performance and improve users’ quality of life. Based on this information, an interior intervention proposal is developed and presented through technical and visual schemes, along with a budget plan, aimed at ensuring the proper development and financial viability of the project. In this way, the proposal is consolidated as a social contribution to the city, promoting inclusive environments that encourage active and dignified aging among the older adult population.

This degree project develops an interior design proposal for creation of the “Pequeños Pasos” Child Development Center, located in Gualaquiza, Morona Santiago province, with an emphasis on early childhood stimulation. The proposal arises from the need to generate suitable educational spaces that respond to the physical, cognitive and socio-emotional demands of early childhood, considering both the local context and contemporary pedagogical principles. The methodology applied is based on the Reggio Emilia pedagogical approach, which conceives of the environment as a third educator. Based concept of lego bricks, understood as sequential construction, creativity and active learning, a contemporary style characterized by its simplicity and flexibility is incorporated into spatial distribution, including development of technical plans, selection of materials, color scheme, and design of furniture adapted to the child's scale within the three-dimensional representation. Furthermore, research uses qualitive methods, considering interior design criteria such as ergonomics, thermal and acoustic comfort, and space lighting. This proposal seeks to contribute to improvement of children’s educational spaces, proposing an interior design model that serves as a reference for similar child development centers.

Diseño de un espacio de rehabilitación y arte basado en la terapia hortícola para el centro geriátrico Santa Ana. Cuenca - Ecuador
(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Artes, 2026-03-03) Quizhpe Ávila, Andrés Sebastián; Lozano Guamán Flor Margarita
The present research focuses on improving the interior environment of the Santa Ana Geriatric Center and integrating a horticultural therapy space, with the purpose of enhancing the physical, emotional, and social well-being of elderly residents. This work represents a commitment to the dignification of aging, through the creation of functional, accessible, and aesthetically harmonious spaces. The first chapter addresses the theoretical foundations related to the elderly, their physical and psychological characteristics, as well as the definition and classification of geriatric centers in Ecuador. Furthermore, it develops a comprehensive analysis of thermal, acoustic, and lighting comfort, ergonomics, auxiliary furniture, and chromatics as determining factors in habitability and spatial quality. The concept of therapeutic and interactive gardens is also incorporated, highlighting the benefits of horticultural therapy in strengthening users’ cognitive, physical, and emotional capacities. The second chapter presents the diagnosis of the existing center, including its site location, architectural survey, climatic and functional analysis, as well as the identification of spatial and regulatory issues. Finally, the third chapter introduces the interior and therapeutic garden redesign proposal, based on a biophilic concept, applying strategies of environmental comfort, natural materials, ergonomic furniture, and balanced color schemes—consolidating a model of comprehensive care that promotes autonomy, safety, and quality of life for the elderly.

The objective of this degree project is to redesign the terrace of the Hostal Check In a Rooftop Restaurant, located in the historic center of the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. The proposal seeks to enhance the commercial and aesthetic value of this heritage building, given the growth of commercial activity in the historic center following the pandemic, which has positioned rooftops as the city's new attraction. As a result, these spaces have become dynamic places that offer different experiences, where, beyond taking advantage of the Cuenca landscape, the experience focuses on the user. However, this project seeks to be different and original by drawing inspiration from Cuenca's roots, hence the name “Fuego Morlaco” for the restaurant. It also seeks value in the traditional architectural features of the building, in contrast to the contemporary. The proposal is complemented by a typical gastronomic offering elevated to haute cuisine, strengthening the identity of the space. On the other hand, the building stands out for having the first electric elevator in the city of Cuenca, a historical element that is integrated as an attraction within the design. The development of the project included the analysis of similar references that served as a guide for the formal and functional conception of the proposal, as well as an exhaustive review of theoretical sources that support the design decisions.
