Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-04-02) Encalada Añazco, Marcela Fernanda; Herrera Montero, Luis AlbertoThe inclusion of women in technical areas traditionally dominated by men has represented a historical challenge linked to cultural and social patterns that reproduce the sexual division of labor. In Ecuador, although equity policies have been promoted, gender gaps persist, especially in institutions such as the National Telecommunications Corporation (CNT). This study addresses the perceptions and impacts of female inclusion in technical areas within CNT in the city of Cuenca, with the aim of understanding the obstacles and opportunities faced by both women and men in these environments. Its importance lies in understanding the experiences of female and male workers regarding the entry and professional development of women in historically masculinized technical areas at CNT. To this end, a qualitative methodological approach will be used, including a focus group and semi-structured interviews. The expected outcome is to identify the cultural, institutional, and personal barriers that affect women’s career trajectories, as well as to make visible the good practices that have facilitated their inclusion. The research seeks to generate deeper analyses of public policies and institutional strategies aimed at achieving gender equity in the technical sector. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-21) Benavides Naranjo, Paula Adriana; Carpio Pachecho, Erika Michelle; León Machuca, Walter FabiánMotherhood within the university academic framework entails various constraints that, while addressed from technical perspectives, often overlook the subjective dimensions of women's experiences. This omission has helped sustain a view of motherhood centered solely on biological and natural aspects, disregarding the social, emotional, and structural implications that shape women's lives in contemporary societies. In this context, motherhood intertwines with the personal and academic development of students who, beyond their caregiving roles, are social subjects with their own projects and aspirations. This research aimed to understand, through the lenses of gender and care, the motherhood experiences and academic dynamics of female students at the University of Cuenca. A qualitative approach with a phenomenological design was employed, grounded in life stories and featuring an exploratory-descriptive scope. Semi-structured interviews served as the primary data collection technique, gathering testimonies that reflect the students' lived experiences, perceptions, and the meanings they assign to their motherhood and educational journeys. The findings provide a deep understanding of motherhood in the university sphere, offering valuable insights for the creation of affirmative action policies and practices for this population, both at the University of Cuenca and other higher education institutions. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-27) Bravo Rojas, Mariuxi Alexandra; Moya López, Lizbeth Pamela; Arias Pallaroso, Francisco AlexanderThis research analyzed the role of rural women in drinking water management in the face of water scarcity in the San Pedro community, Llacao parish, Cuenca canton, during the year 2025. The study aimed to highlight women's participation in the access, use, and daily management of water, as well as to identify the social, economic, cultural, and political factors that influence their participation in community water management and the consequences of scarcity on their daily lives. A qualitative approach with a descriptive design was adopted, allowing for an understanding of women's experiences, perceptions, and practices regarding water issues. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with women from the community, selected through purposive sampling, and a review of local and institutional documents related to water management. Hermeneutic analysis using Atlas.ti software facilitated the coding and contextualization of the data, connecting it to the theoretical framework. The results showed that women play a central role in the supply, storage, and use of water for domestic consumption and family care; however, their participation in formal decision-making spaces, such as the Water Board, is limited. The scarcity and intermittency of the service increase their reproductive and community workload, affecting their health, available time, and social participation. It is concluded that it is necessary to strengthen the participation and leadership of rural women, incorporating a gender perspective into community water management to advance toward greater equity and sustainability. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-27) Bautista Paredes, Bryan Edwin; Arias Pallaroso, Francisco AlexanderThis research analyzed how female entrepreneurship influenced the economic empowerment of migrant women participating in the Casa de la Mujer program in Cuenca during 2025. The study began with the question of how entrepreneurship contributed to strengthening their economic autonomy in a context marked by migration, informality, and gender inequalities. The overall objective was to determine the relationship between the entrepreneurial ventures developed by these women and their process of economic empowerment. The research employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Semi-structured interviews and focus groups were used as data collection techniques, in addition to a review of program women’s house documentation. The data obtained were analyzed using ATLAS.ti software, considering categories such as motivations for entrepreneurship, access to and control of resources, business sustainability, and economic and personal decision-making. The results showed that entrepreneurship was a relevant means of generating income, strengthening skills, and increasing control over economic resources. Participants indicated that training, mentoring, and support networks promoted greater financial security. However, they also faced barriers such as a lack of capital, excessive caregiving responsibilities, and job insecurity. It was concluded that the program contributed to economic empowerment, although its impact depended on personal, family, and structural factors. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-30) Vanegas Morocho, Emma Patricia; Paño Yáñez, Pablo JoséThis research addressed the issues within the legal system regarding the correct application of the gender perspective in criminal proceedings against women who acted in legitimate defense, a situation frequently hindered by stereotypes and an androcentric interpretation of the law. In this context, the general objective analyzed the application of said approach in sentences issued by the National Court of Justice of Ecuador during the 2020-2025 period and rulings from Provincial Courts, in order to achieve a broader and more critical contrast. For the development of the study, a qualitative methodology was utilized, under a non- experimental, documentary, and bibliographic research design. Theoretical methods and content analysis were employed to examine jurisprudence, complemented by the review of case files and interviews with specialized experts, which allowed for the triangulation of normative information with procedural reality. The most significant results evidenced that, despite the existence of legal frameworks, biases persist in the evaluation of evidence that render the context of prior violence suffered by the defendants invisible. It was primarily concluded that the incorporation of the gender perspective in legitimate defense is still insufficient, requiring standardized criteria to guarantee effective judicial protection free from discrimination. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-28) Sangurima Sumba, Ana Mabel; Rocano Proaño, Kerly Lucía; Paño Yáñez, Pablo JoséThe field of formal education is not only a learning space, but also a space where tools of mastery are exercised, trying to fit the members of a society into a mold of processes that align with the biological sex "man and woman". Thus, those who do not conform to these standards find it difficult on a human level to continue their training process. In this context, this research was developed from narratives of the trans population of the Asociación Silueta Cuenca with the aim of determining the factors of discrimination and violence experienced in the educational environment and the individual and collective strategies they have developed, in order to establish guidelines for future public policies. A qualitative approach with a phenomenological-hermeneutical design was adopted, allowing to capture how the participants' lived experiences intersect with sociocultural aspects. Methodologically, semi- structured interviews were conducted with six trans women and a participatory workshop was held with five trans women, selected through intentional sampling. The information was analyzed in the ATLAS.Ti software, helping to code and contextualize the data, linking them with the theoretical framework and objectives of the project. The results show the relationship between educational dropout of trans people and situations of violence and discrimination, which impact differently according to places and contexts. As a main contribution, this research emphasizes fundamental perspectives for future research that will make visible the realities of trans people and thus ensure effective policies in compliance with rights. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-30) Calderón Triviño, Celia Cristina; Gil Gesto, María IsabelThis research analyzes the configuration of the orgasm gap among female students of the Faculty of Jurisprudence and Political and Social Sciences, based on the lived experiences and meanings they attribute to their sexual experiences. Using a qualitative approach, focus groups complemented by body mapping techniques were employed, allowing for a situated exploration of the androcentric mechanisms and phallocentric discourses that condition women’s access to sexual pleasure. The results, processed using ATLAS.ti software, show that the orgasm gap is sustained by restrictive sexual education, the anatomical invisibilization of the clitoris, and the pressure exerted by an androcentric visual culture that promotes sexual performativity and the simulation of pleasure. Additionally, a significant contrast is identified between students from the Gender and Development program and those from Law, Family Counseling, and Social Work, with the former demonstrating higher levels of bodily awareness, critical questioning of sexual mandates, and greater agency in response to sexual dissatisfaction. Nevertheless, the study also reveals strategies of resistance and sexual sovereignty, such as self-exploration, the de-guiltification of the body, and the resignification of desire, which enable women to recognize themselves as subjects of pleasure. It is concluded that reducing the orgasm gap requires a political reconfiguration of sexuality that positions sexual pleasure as a central axis of women’s autonomy and freedom. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-17) Quito Monje, Doménica Valeria; Villa Cárdenas, Isabel Paulina; Bueno Loja, Blanca YolandaThis research analyzes the gender-differentiated effects on the productive and reproductive activities of women and men engaged in agriculture during the drought of 2024 in the community of La Unión, Ricaurte parish. From a gender perspective, it analyzes the diverse experiences of women and men in their dependence on irrigation water, together with the impacts on their daily lives. The study has a qualitative approach, with an exploratory and descriptive scope, and an ethnographic design. The information is collected through semi- structured interviews with six women and six men engaged in agriculture, as well as through participatory social mapping. The results show significant differences in adaptation strategies, community support networks, and gender roles. There is an increase in the productive and reproductive burden on women, as well as different perceptions of agricultural participation and the defense of water. Participatory social mapping demonstrates the different types of territorial and social mechanisms. The research provides key elements for strengthening and transforming irrigation water management from a gender perspective and breaking down inequalities. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-24) Pacheco Carpio, Kevin Mecias; Gutiérrez Molina, Blanca EsperanzaThis research analyzed the manifestations and dynamics of gender-based violence experienced by the female soccer players of the University of Cuenca during 2025. Within the university context, despite formal principles of equality, the persistence of discriminatory practices, devaluation, and symbolic violence was evident, negatively impacting the players' overall well-being and athletic performance. Given this scenario, the study's general objective was to analyze the possible manifestations of gender-based violence and the resistance mechanisms developed by the players.Item Dinámicas Económicas de las Mujeres Artesanas desde la Perspectiva de la Economía Feminista Interseccional en la Comunidad Bullzhún - El Paño, en Gualaceo. Año 2025(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-24) Crespo Chapa, Miriam Alexandra; León Gómez, Giuliana Paz; Mendieta Orellana, Mónica ElisabethThe research entitled ‘Economic Dynamics of Women Artisans from the Perspective of Intersectional Feminist Economics in the Bullzhún - El Paño Community, in Gualaceo. Year 2025’ aims to analyse the economic dynamics of women artisans in Bullzhún from the perspective of intersectional feminist economics. The problem lies in the invisibility of craft work, linked to job insecurity, the loss of ancestral knowledge, and the triple workload that exists between craft work, reproductive work, and care work. A qualitative approach with a phenomenological-hermeneutic design was used, which interprets the meaning that people attribute to their experiences in the face of a phenomenon. To select the participants, a non-probabilistic sampling method called snowball sampling was applied, selecting eight women artisans. The data were collected using the individual in-depth interview technique, and the data analysis and coding were carried out using ATLAS.ti. From an intersectional feminist economic perspective, the main findings reveal that the barriers presented in economic dynamics are informality, the devaluation of craft work, work overload, generational and territorial gaps, and the progressive loss of ancestral knowledge. Among the resistance strategies they implement are wholesale sales, the use of social media, the transmission of ancestral knowledge, and family and community support networks. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-12) Castro Morocho, Carmen del Cisne; Montaño Otavalo, Evelyn Michelle; León Machuca, Walter FabiánThe purpose of this research is to analyze the influence of gender on the experiences of insecurity among female merchants in the Puerto Inca area during the period 2023-2025, from a gender and intersectional feminist perspective. It explores the dynamics of gender-based violence and the resilience strategies developed by female merchants in a context characterized by territorial vulnerability, institutional precariousness, and increasing criminal risks. The objective is to understand how gender affects experiences of insecurity and their consequences in daily life, emotions, and work. The study has a qualitative approach, with a descriptive-explanatory scope and a phenomenological-hermeneutic design, which will allow us to understand the experiences lived and the meanings assigned by the participants from their socio-territorial context. In-depth individual interviews were conducted with six women merchants who were selected through intentional non-probabilistic sampling. The main results showed that gender has a direct impact on the experience of insecurity, increasing the vulnerability of women, especially those with economic autonomy and caregiving roles. On the other hand, mistrust of public security institutions and weak community networks have been a boon for extortionists and, therefore, have led to an increase in crime, generating economic, psychological, and family problems. Given this, we conclude that it is important and necessary to strengthen citizen security policies with a gender, feminist, and intersectional approach. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-17) Castillo Gallardo, Paula Madeley; Herrera Montero, Luis AlbertoThis study examines female empowerment in contemporary Ecuadorian cinema through an analysis of Qué tan lejos and En el nombre de la hija, directed by Tania Hermida. Drawing on feminist theory and a hermeneutic approach, the research offers an integrated analysis of the narrative and formal elements of both films, understanding cinema as a site of symbolic production where meanings around femininity are constructed and contested. The study focuses on the protagonists’ actions, their processes of identity formation, and the relationships they establish within their social and cultural environments. In addition, formal cinematic resources—such as camera work, sound design, editing, and visual symbolism— are examined as integral components of the films’ discursive frameworks. Through this approach, the research explores how these works engage with issues of gender, power, and inequality within the Ecuadorian context. Ultimately, this thesis aims to contribute to scholarly discussions on the role of cinema in shaping and problematizing representations of femininity. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-12) Quilambaqui Velecela, Keyla Samantha; Mendieta Orellana, Mónica ElisabethMining extractivism in ancestral territories of Ecuador has generated sustained resistance where Indigenous women play central roles, although historically invisibilized. This research analyzes territorial resistance trajectories and the evolution of women's leadership in the antiextractivist struggle of the Indigenous Community of San Sebastián de Sígsig, Azuay, during 2000-2025. The study is theoretically grounded in territorial feminism, feminist political ecology, life course theory, intersectionality, and feminist cartography, enabling analysis of territory as a realm of life, memory, and political dispute. The general objective is to analyze territorial resistance trajectories and the evolution of women's leadership from an intersectional feminist perspective. The specific objectives seek to: characterize resistance trajectories developed by women leaders, examine transformations in their political participation and community organization, and collaboratively map resistance geographies through feminist temporal cartography. Methodologically, a qualitative longitudinal approach with phenomenological-hermeneutic and biographical design was adopted, employing thematic life history interviews with five women leaders and two male leaders, complemented by feminist temporal cartography and hermeneutic analysis. Findings show that leadership trajectories emerge from matrilineal memories, traverse inflection points linked to burnout and territorial determination, and are sustained through affective networks and the body-territory relationship. Persistent patriarchal barriers, women's triple role, and intergenerational tensions are identified. The study makes women visible as central political actors in territorial defense and contributes to understanding anti-extractivist. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-10) Barros León, Domenica Nicole; Jumbo Ortega, Esthefany Carolina; García Vélez, Adriana del RocíoViolence against women is a persistent structural problem in Ecuador that significantly affects women's lives, safety, and autonomy, despite existing legal advances. In the city of Cuenca, institutions such as the Casa de la Mujer program and the María Amor Foundation play a fundamental role in providing comprehensive care to women victims of violence; however, limitations have been identified in the specialized application of a gender perspective. In this context, the study aimed to analyze the feasibility of incorporating professionals with a Gender and Development perspective into both institutions by 2025. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, and descriptive- interpretive design. Document analysis techniques and semi-structured interviews were conducted with technical and administrative staff, using purposive sampling. Data processing was carried out through thematic categorization and data triangulation, supported by ATLAS.ti software. The results showed that the gender perspective, although recognized in discourse, has gaps in its practical application due to a lack of specialized training, excessive workload, and inadequate implementation of protocols. It was concluded that the incorporation of professionals in Gender and Development is necessary. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-10) Samaniego Zabala, Jennifer Isabel; Sinche Reyes, Karla Jazmín; García Vélez, Adriana del RocíoThis research was conducted with the aim of analyzing the factors that influence the consumption of ultra-processed foods among women who practice agroecology and its relationship with food sovereignty in the parish center of Río Blanco, Morona canton, Morona Santiago province, during the year 2025. To this end, a qualitative methodology with an ethnographic approach was employed, and the information was collected through in-depth interviews with seven agroecological women from the parish, which allowed for an understanding of their experiences and food practices within their own life contexts. The results showed that the consumption of ultra-processed foods does not stem from individual decisions, but rather from structural conditions that shape food practices. Among the main factors identified were age-related, social, economic, and gender-related elements, which weakened food sovereignty and foster dependence on local shops for the purchase of ultra- processed foods. The consumption of ultra-processed foods creates tensions within traditional food practices, affecting women’s food autonomy, and weakening the transmission of ancestral knowledge. These dynamics also influence women’s well-being, highlighting the need to strengthen policies and practices that revalue agroecology and the role of rural women in food sovereignty. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-11) Landívar Parra, María Sara; Cordero Cueva, Ana CeciliaRomantic love is a social construction present in the Western world, which has shaped affective relationships and women's identity throughout history, reinforcing gender mandates. These mandates are not foreign to university contexts, especially in careers linked to the social area such as Family Orientation, where future graduates acquire critical competencies to intervene in the various crises faced by family systems. Although their technical training brings them closer to autonomy, perceptions regarding the need for romantic love remain present. The general objective of this research is to profile the incidence of romantic love in the construction of identity among students in the Family Orientation program at the University of Cuenca. Specifically, it seeks to describe how they experience love and how these perceptions build images of women who may or may not be independent. This study was conducted from a critical feminist perspective, using a qualitative approach with case studies and semi-structured interviews. The study concludes that romantic love impacts identity by imposing roles of sacrifice and submission. However, students resist by prioritizing their autonomy and personal projects to build an emancipated and reciprocal self-perception. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-10) Murillo Marca, Camila Alejandra; Herrera Montero, Luis AlbertoThe experiences of older women have historically been overlooked in studies on gender- based violence. This research analyzed the gender-based violence experienced by an older woman from the urban neighborhood of El Paraíso in the city of Cuenca, with the aim of understanding how this violence manifested itself throughout her life and how it was sustained by sociocultural, economic, and family factors. The study was conducted using a qualitative approach, through an ethnographic design focused on life history. Through in-depth interviews, the participant's experiences from childhood to old age were reconstructed, which made it possible to identify the presence of psychological and symbolic violence, normalized in the family and social sphere, framed by gender mandates, imposed roles, and unequal power relations. The results showed that economic dependence, the sexual division of labor, and male authority influenced the persistence of violence throughout her life. Likewise, the role of support networks in old age was highlighted, especially the companionship between women, as spaces for emotional support and reframing of lived experiences.Item Masculinidades afectivas y cuidadoras. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-02-23) Nieves Huanga, Gabriela Estefania; Paño Yañez, Pablo JoséThis research analyzes the perceptions and practices of students aged 14 to 17 at Miguel Moreno Ordóñez Secondary School regarding boys’ attitudes toward care and affection during the 2021–2022 school year, from a gender perspective and the study of masculinities. This approach allows gender to be understood not as synonymous with women, but as an analytical tool to identify inequalities derived from socially constructed roles and stereotypes. Within this framework, hegemonic machista masculinity is recognized as a factor that contributes to the reproduction of various forms of violence toward vulnerable groups. The study was conducted using a qualitative approach through semi-structured interviews with 11 students, differentiated according to the type of family they belong to. The objective was to identify how this adolescent population understands, reproduces, and experiences practices associated with masculinity in their daily environment. The findings show that, although students are unable to conceptually define masculinities, they unconsciously reproduce gender roles and stereotypes, regardless of their family context. At the same time, they express basic notions of equality and rights, acquired mainly through everyday experiences rather than intentional educational processes. It is concluded that this population lacks scientific information about masculinities and that the educational institution does not actively participate in teaching this topic, highlighting the need to incorporate these contents into the school environment. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-02-04) Verdugo Tenecora, Katherine Leonela; Bueno Loja, Blanca YolandaThis research addresses gender stereotypes present in the school environment and how they are perceived by adolescents aged 12 to 17 in a private school in the city of Cuenca. It stemmed from the need to understand how beliefs influence students' emotional, social, and educational experiences. The general objective was to analyze the perception of gender stereotypes in this age group. Specific objectives included identifying the stereotypes that adolescents recognize as present in their school environment, exploring the emotional and social consequences of this perception, and determining the mechanisms by which stereotypes are reproduced despite the existence of inclusive educational policies. The methodology employed a qualitative approach, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, and descriptive-interpretive design. Open-ended interviews were conducted with a purposive sample of 14 students, and the data obtained were processed using ATLAS.ti software. This design allowed for an in-depth exploration of student experiences and an understanding of how they interpreted school practices related to gender. The results revealed deeply ingrained stereotypes surrounding physical strength, the unequal assignment of tasks, unequal treatment by teachers, and the presence of sexist comments. Emotional effects such as demotivation, feelings of injustice, and devaluation were also identified. It was concluded that the school continued to function as a space for the reproduction of gender stereotypes, despite having institutional discourses of inclusion, which highlights the need to strengthen equitable pedagogical practices. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2025-10-05) Luna Guevara, Michelle Alexandra; Arias Pallaroso, Francisco AlexanderThe research project "Analysis of the Productive and Reproductive Roles Assumed During the Working-Age Period by Older Adults and Their Effects on Economic Security in Old Age from a Gender Perspective, in Sayausí Parish in 2025" aims to analyze the perceptions of men and women aged 65 and over regarding their current economic security and the gender roles they assumed during their productive years. This qualitative study, with a phenomenological design and an exploratory-descriptive scope, employs thematic-narrative analysis to categorize and interpret relevant discourse. The techniques used include in- depth interviews and focus groups, aimed at understanding participants’ experiences related to economic security, productive and reproductive roles, and their effects in old age. The study seeks to identify gender-based patterns and inequalities that may contribute to public policy discussions and strategies to improve the quality of life of older adults. Conducted exclusively in Sayausí Parish (Cuenca, Ecuador), the research adheres to high ethical standards through data anonymization and informed consent. The findings indicate that the productive and reproductive roles assumed during the working-age period have a significant and differentiated impact on economic security in old age. In the case of women, most of their time was dedicated to unpaid caregiving work, which limited their access to stable employment and social security. In contrast, men mainly engaged in productive activities that enabled greater economic stability.
