This study evaluated the physical fitness level of first-year students of the Physical Activity and Sports Pedagogy program at the University of Cuenca during the 2024-2025 academic year. The EUROFIT test battery was used in two moments (beginning and end of the cycle) to determine and compare the physical performance of the students in the morning and afternoon sessions. The objective was to analyze the level of physical fitness of first-cycle students of the Physical Activity and Sports Pedagogy Career, at the University of Cuenca, in the period 2024-2025. The study has a non-experimental, descriptive and longitudinal design with a quantitative approach. 53 first-cycle students from the Physical Activity and Sports Pedagogy Program at the University of Cuenca participated. To evaluate physical condition, the EUROFIT test battery was used at two moments of the academic year (beginning and end). The application of the tests was carried out under standardized protocols, with specific materials and defined procedures. As a result, Group 2 presented homogeneous and consistent improvements in most of the tests. For its part, Group 1 showed partial progress and irregular performance, with setbacks. However, after the final evaluation, both groups maintained their level of physical fitness, at the medium level (4) of physical fitness. Finally, the study contributed to the initial physical diagnosis of the students and highlights the need for sustained strategies to improve their physical condition.

(2020) Avila Mediavilla, Carlos Marcelo; Bravo Navarro, Wilson Hernando; Jara Arias, Diego Mauricio; Aldas Arcos, Helder Guillermo
One of the key components to guarantee the quality of the didactic process of a Physical Education class is related to educational evaluation; an assessment in which direct participation agents are integrated, which makes it possible to know its context from the individual perceptions of the evaluators. The objective self-evaluation of the Physical Education teacher allows to identify their strengths and weaknesses in didactic performance; on the other hand, the hetero-evaluation of the students provides a substantial perspective, on which to make value judgments and global decisions about the reality of the Physical Education class. This research work refers to the self-evaluation and hetero-evaluation of the didactic process of the Physical Education class, in different educational units of the city of Cuenca-Ecuador. The study populations were made up of Physical Education teachers and students from the Basic Middle, Basic Upper and the Unified General Baccalaureate level. The results of the self-evaluation reflect that the teacher's attention to the teaching-learning process is far from ideal, while the hetero-evaluation denotes negative results in certain items due to the context of the students

(2020) Buñay Buñay, Francisco Javier; Loaiza Dávila, Lenin Esteban; Ávila Mediavilla, Carlos Marcelo; Aldas Arcos, Helder Guillermo
The success that a coach can have in selecting a talent in a competitive sport such as Olympic weightlifting will depend a lot on the criteria applied, fundamentally considering the specific characteristics of the sport and the conditions that a child or adolescent must have to to be considered within the sports elite. Undoubtedly, there are many criteria for selecting a talent, from an empirical process to using physiological, body composition and genetic parameters. For this reason, the objective of this study was to determine the most efficient and scientifically proven criteria for selecting talents for Olympic weightlifting, through a systematic review of the various criteria used worldwide, to be considered and applied, in order to to unify them and to serve as a guide to the technicians of this sport at a national and international level. The search for studies was carried out in ten scientific databases, determining the publications of the last 30 years in English and Spanish with a filter by relevance. Sixteen potential articles that met the parameters established for the present systematic review were determined. A predominance of parameters that evaluate explosive strength, body composition and somatotype was evidenced. Systematizing the criteria to be considered as the most objective: calculation of the somatotype, the deep squat vertical jump test, the long jump without impulse run, the throw of the 2kg medicine ball and the snatch squat test.

(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-09-18) Orellana Fajardo, María Soledad; Torres Rodríguez, Bryam Ricardo; Aldas Arcos, Helder Guillermo
In particular, Physical Education (PE) contributes to the integral development of the human being; however, education at the national level evidences different problems that make this area lose its importance, since it detects single-teacher institutions that do not have a professional in the area of PE, being the classroom teacher who provides the PE class, presenting deficiencies in the management and implementation of the Physical Education Curriculum, as well as the use of methodologies to teach the classes. Objective: To analyze the effect of conducting a training workshop on planning and implementation of the Physical Education curriculum for classroom teachers of the EGB Agustín Crespo Heredia school in the Girón canton, San Gerardo parish, during the 2023 - 2024 school year. Methodology: A pre-experimental research design with a quantitative and longitudinal approach was implemented. The direct participants were seven male and female teachers selected through a non-probabilistic convenience sampling; likewise, the indirect participants were 86 students who make up the General Basic Education level. Results: The results of our research after the workshop showed a positive impact, because significant differences were found regarding the inclusion of methodological strategies in the planning and development of PE classes based on the Physical Education Curriculum. On the other hand, regarding the level of student satisfaction, significant differences were obtained with p<0.05, thus demonstrating that students feel totally satisfied with the PE classes after the implementation of the workshop.

Participants were selected according to inclusion criteria. The teaching-learning methodology was applied for 17 weeks, five days a week, during the development of the classes. This study is quasi-experimental with a control group. The main variables used were, the methodological strategies of experiential learning and the improvement of the teaching-learning process evidenced in the learning styles of the students; the secondary variables were the age and sex of the participants. Learning styles were evaluated in a pre-test and post-test, through the application of the Honey-Alonso questionnaire. For data analysis, the computer software IBM-SPSS-Statistics-22 was used. In addition, the results of the evaluations were compared, by means of the test of means for related and independent samples. The results obtained showed that with the intervention, active, reflective and pragmatic learning improved significantly, however, theoretical learning did not improve. It was found that there are various proposals for the evaluation of motor development, although there are few updated studies that analyze Physical Education as the basis of school sports. The strengths of using the 3JS instrument are analyzed as a sample that motor evaluation applied to the field of Education with sports projection is possible.
