Item Uso de redes sociales y mensajería instantánea durante la intervención familiar. Una mirada desde los orientadores familiares de Cuenca, 2025(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-04-08) Velasquez Morocho, Juan Adrian; Dávila Pontón, Yolanda PatriciaThe objective of this study was to explore the perceptions of Family Counseling professionals in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador, regarding the use of social media and instant messaging platforms in family intervention processes during 2025. The research adopted a qualitative approach, with a phenomenological design and an exploratory-descriptive scope. The sample consisted of eight practicing family counselors, selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using the qualitative data analysis software ATLAS.ti version 9. The findings indicate that professionals frequently incorporate digital platforms such as WhatsApp, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram as complementary resources in family intervention, mainly to facilitate communication, case follow-up, and the reinforcement of psychoeducational content addressed during sessions. Additionally, benefits related to accessibility, immediacy, and continuity of professional support were identified; however, challenges associated with ethical boundaries, exposure to unregulated content, and the need to strengthen digital competencies among professionals were also recognized. It is concluded that the use of social media and instant messaging tools represents an emerging and significant resource in family intervention processes, whose integration requires clear ethical guidelines, specialized training, and critical reflection on its impact on professional practice.Item Dinámica Familiar de Hogares Monoparentales con el Padre en Situación de Desempleo, del Programa Municipal Casa Obrera, Cuenca – Ecuador, periodo 2025(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-29) Pozo Samaniego, Doris Elizabeth; Bueno Loja, Blanca YolandaIn recent years, single-parent families headed by men have gained greater visibility in Latin America, although they remain underexplored in social research and are scarcely considered in public policies, which tend to focus primarily on single mothers. In Ecuador, unemployment and labor precariousness directly affect family dynamics, limiting economic resources and weakening paternal authority. In response to this issue, the present study aimed to analyze the family dynamics of single-parent households with fathers in a situation of unemployment belonging to the Municipal Program Casa Obrera in Cuenca in 2025. A qualitative phenomenological approach with a descriptive scope was applied, using semi-structured interviews processed with Atlas.ti software. The results revealed diverse family structures, explicit norms, and mostly clear boundaries, although in some cases weakened by the intervention of ex-partners. Paternal roles were defined in most households, protective alliances were present, and in four families, coalitions against the father undermined his authority. Regarding family dynamics, balanced communication, cohesion, mutual support, and adaptability to significant changes predominated. In conclusion, the study confirms that despite economic and social limitations, fathers manage to sustain protective and resilient bonds, redefining fatherhood beyond material provision and placing care and emotional presence at the center. These findings highlight the need for inclusive public policies in Ecuador that recognize and strengthen the role of fathers as primary caregivers.Item Relación entre el Funcionamiento Familiar y la Motivación Para el Cambio en Pacientes en Proceso de Rehabilitación por Consumo de Alcohol en el Centro Fundación Hogares Libertad Cuenca -Ecuador, en el año 2025(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-30) Sacasari Cordero, Alexis Xavier; Guillen Verdesoto, Ximena KarinaProblematic alcohol consumption is a complex health issue demanding comprehensive approaches, where family functioning and motivation for change are recognized as crucial variables in addiction treatment. Nevertheless, there is limited evidence analyzing the joint relationship of these dimensions, especially in Latin American contexts. This research aimed to analyze the relationship between family functioning and motivation for change in 17 adult patients undergoing residential rehabilitation for alcohol consumption at the Hogares Libertad Cuenca Foundation (2025). A quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive-correlational design was used. Data was collected using the FF-SIL instrument (family functioning) and the URICA scale (motivation). The Pearson correlation coefficient results did not show a statistically significant relationship between family functioning and motivation for change ($r = 0.110; p = .673$). Although predominantly functional levels of family functioning were observed, motivational stages showed a variable distribution, suggesting the influence of multiple factors (personal, therapeutic, contextual). It is concluded that, in the analyzed sample, motivation for change is not directly related to perceived family functioning. This highlights the need for future research into more complex explanatory models and the importance of strengthening family- oriented interventions.Item Influencia de la Migración Parental en la Autoestima de Estudiantes de Bachillerato General Unificado, Sección Matutina, de la Unidad Educativa del Milenio "Manuela Garaicoa de Calderón", Cuenca-Ecuador, año 2025(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-30) Guzhñay Peláez, Jonnathan Maximiliano; Reino Pomavilla, Evelyn Dayanna; Durán Oleas, Jenny CatalinaAdolescence is a crucial stage of development that requires family care, as self-esteem is formed during this period of the life cycle. With this premise in mind, and in light of recurring problems such as poor academic performance and lack of motivation among students in the morning session of the General Unified Baccalaureate program whose parents are migrants, as well as manifestations of sadness, irritability, and problems with social interaction, the following research was developed with the overall objective of analyzing the influence of parental migration on the self-esteem of students in the General Unified High School, Morning Section, of the Milenio Educational Unit “Manuela Garaicoa de Calderón,” Cuenca-Ecuador, in 2025. A quantitative study was conducted, using a non-experimental correlational and cross-sectional design. The universe of this study consisted of 80 students with migrant parents. Data were collected using a survey technique, employing as instruments a questionnaire designed by the researchers and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. The results showed that low self-esteem among students is related to the migration status of their parents, regardless of which parent was absent; however, the data reflect that maternal migration is associated with higher rates of low self-esteem, and the same condition is found among female students. The main destination country is the United States, followed by Spain, while internal migration to Quito and Guayaquil is lower.Item Relación entre el Uso de las Redes Sociales y la Autoestima de Estudiantes de Bachillerato General Unificado, Sección Matutina de la Unidad Educativa Luis Roberto Bravo, Cuenca-Ecuador, Año 2025(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-27) Delgado Sigcho, Mayra Abigail; Arias Pallaroso, Francisco AlexanderThis research addresses the issue of the relationship between the use of social media and adolescent mental health, arising from concerns about low self-esteem behaviors detected at the Luis Roberto Bravo Educational Unit in Cuenca, Ecuador. The overall objective was to establish the relationship between the use of these platforms and self - esteem levels among students in the Unified General Baccalaureate program, morning session, during the year 2025. Methodologically, the study was developed using a quantitative approach, with a nonexperimental, correlational, and cross-sectional design. The main findings revealed that 96.6% of students use social media for communication purposes. The predominant levels of self-esteem were “high self-esteem” with 24 cases and “medium self- esteem” with 23 cases. The tests (Chi-square p = 0.113; Spearman's Rho p = 0.909) determined that there is no statistically significant association between the variables: social media use and self-esteem. It is concluded that, in this particular context, social media use does not negatively impact selfesteem. It is recommended that future research go beyond measuring connection time to delve deeper into the type of content viewed, in order to strengthen student wellness programs. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-20) Cordero Arellano, Joseline Noemí; Benavides Ureña, María Belén; Ochoa Balarezo, Juana VirginiaThis study, entitled Attachment Styles and the Quality of Interpersonal Relationships among students of the Family Counseling program at the Faculty of law and Political and Social Sciences of the University of Cuenca (2025), aimed to examine the association between attachment styles and the quality of interpersonal relationships in early adulthood. The research was grounded in the premise that attachment patterns formed during childhood influence the establishment of healthy interpersonal relationships, potentially manifesting as emotional dependence, fear of rejection, or anxiety. A quantitative approach with an analytical, cross-sectional design was employed. The study population consisted of 178 university students aged 18 to 25 years. Attachment styles were assessed using the Experiences in Close Relationships Questionnaire (ECR-12), while the quality of interpersonal relationships was measured through the Relationship Assessment Scale (RAS). Results indicated that disorganized attachment was the most prevalent style, followed by secure attachment. Although insecure attachment styles showed greater relevance, a considerable proportion of participants reported high levels of relational satisfaction. No statistically significant direct association was found between attachment styles and the quality of interpersonal relationships; however, secure attachment was associated with higher levels of relational satisfaction. These findings suggest that attachment may influence the quality of interpersonal relationships, although multiple personal and contextual factors also play a significant role. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-12) Plaza Ruilova, Angie Carolina; Durán Oleas, Jenny CatalinaThe research is conducted in a context where people with disabilities and their families face multiple barriers that limit their inclusion and affect their quality of life. Despite institutional efforts to promote their well-being through programs, family dynamics are rarely explored from a socio-emotional well-being perspective. In this context, the objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between family dynamics and the socio-emotional well-being of its members with disabilities, beneficiaries of the “Home and Community Care” program of the Parish GAD of El Valle, Cuenca-Ecuador, in 2025. A qualitative methodology was implemented, with a descriptive-interpretative design and a phenomenological method, using interviews as a technique, applied to 15 families (30 participants: people with disabilities and the family member responsible for their care), beneficiaries of the program in question. Among the main results, it is evident that family dynamics in these households are organized around caregiving. Relational factors (family communication, distribution of roles, emotional support) constitute protective mechanisms. Affective factors (cohesion, affection, adaptability) are essential for sustaining care. Socio-emotional well-being is a relational and contextual process, where life satisfaction, emotional security, sense of belonging, affective relationships, and self- esteem are maintained through family support and participation in activities promoted by the program. In conclusion, family dynamics based on care and emotional support are fundamental to the socio-emotional well-being of people with disabilities. It is concluded that family dynamics, structured around care and emotional support, constitute the main protective factor for socio-emotional well-being in people with disabilities.Item Influencia de los Estilos de Crianza en el Rendimiento Académico de los Estudiantes de Segundo de Bachillerato General Unificado de la Unidad Educativa Abelardo Tamariz Crespo, Cuenca-Ecuador, año 2025(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-11) Iñiguez Arcentales, Michelle Alexandra; Guillén Verdesoto, Ximena KarinaThe problem under study falls within the scope of the relationship between parenting styles and academic performance, given that family dynamics can either promote or hinder academic achievement. In this context, the overall objective was to analyze the influence of parenting styles on the academic performance of students in the second year of the General Unified Baccalaureate at the Abelardo Tamariz Crespo Educational Unit. To this end, a quantitative methodology was used, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational design. The survey technique was applied using Steinberg's Parenting Styles Scale, complemented by the technique of documentary analysis of official academic averages. Among the main results, five parenting styles were identified, with the authoritative style being the most prevalent and the one most closely related to better academic performance. The overall performance of students was at adequate levels, with a high average and low dispersion. A positive and significant correlation was also found between favorable parenting styles (affectionate and structured) and better academic performance, while permissive, neglectful, and mixed parenting styles resulted in lower grades. In conclusion, parenting styles have a significant influence on students' academic performance. Parenting practices based on supporting children, communication, and clear rules increase school achievement. Likewise, the importance of family support in the development of adolescents is evident.Item Relación entre el Funcionamiento Familiar y la Autoestima en Estudiantes de Familias Monoparentales del Bachillerato General Unificado de la Unidad Educativa Nabón, Provincia del Azuay - Ecuador, 2025(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-11) Morocho Chapa, Ana Cristina; León Machuca, Walter FabiánSingle-parent families generate transformations in family dynamics, particularly in the reorganization of roles and affective bonds, which may influence adolescents’ emotional well-being. These changes become especially relevant during adolescence, a transitional stage characterized by physical, emotional, and social factors. The general objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between family functioning and self-esteem among students from single-parent families enrolled in the Unified General Baccalaureate at Unidad Educativa Nabón, Azuay Province, Ecuador, in 2025.The research adopted a quantitative approach, with a correlational scope and a non-experimental cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 74 students from single-parent families. Results from the FACES III questionnaire indicated a predominant disengaged type of family cohesion (33.8%) and a chaotic type of adaptability (43.2%); likewise, 86.5% of the students presented low self-esteem. Analysis using the Chi-square test and Fisher’s Exact Test revealed no statistically significant association between integrated family functionality and self-esteem level (χ² = 1.700, p = .192; Fisher’s p = .270; Cramer’s V = .152). Contrary to theoretical expectations, both adolescents from functional and dysfunctional families exhibited exceptionally high prevalences of low self-esteem (95.0% and 83.3%, respectively), with no significant differences between groups. These findings suggest that macrosystemic contextual factors may exert effects on self-esteem strong enough to dilute the differential impact of internal family functioning, thereby questioning the ecological validity of the Circumplex Model in rural Ecuadorian single-parent populations.Item Estilos de Crianza e Influencia en el Desarrollo de la Afectividad de Adolescentes de Bachillerato de la Unidad Educativa “Benjamín Ramírez Arteaga”, en Cuenca – Ecuador, Año 2025(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-12) Aguilar Cabrera, Mónica Michelle; Ordóñez Martínez, Lourdes NubeParenting styles are patterns, approaches, or strategies that parents use to raise their children, which are important because of their direct influence on the emotional, affective, social, and behavioral development of children. Therefore, the overall objective of this research was to analyze parenting styles and their association with the development of affectivity in high school adolescents at the “Benjamín Ramírez Arteaga” Educational Unit in Cuenca, Ecuador, in 2025. A quantitative approach was used, which allowed for the objective collection of information; the study was analytical and cross-sectional in nature. The techniques were structured, using the Affectivity Scale (EA – H) and, for parenting styles, the Norms and Demands Scale (ENA – H), both aimed solely at adolescents. For its application, a total universe of 104 students was established. The results reflected that, from the students´ perception, the predominant parenting style of both fathers (37,7 %) and mothers (40,6 %) is the Authoritarian Parentings Style, which shows that the levels of affectivity in fathers (59,4 %) and mothers (56,5 %) are mainly based on criticism and rejection. In summary, the findings show a direct relationship between the predominant parenting style and the levels of affection in both parental figures. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-12) Ramón Astudillo, Dayanna Michelle; Guzmán Jiménez, Alfonsina del RocíoAdolescence is a stage of human development characterized by significant changes at the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social levels. During this period, communication between parents and children plays a fundamental role, as it can either strengthen or hinder the quality of the parent–child relationship. The aim of this study was to analyze the association between parental communication styles and the parent–child relationship among adolescents aged 12 to 15 years at the Dolores J. Torres Educational Unit, located in Cuenca, Ecuador, during the period from September 2025 to February 2026.The research followed a quantitative approach with an analytical, non-experimental, and cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 100 participants, including parents and adolescents. Data were collected using two validated instruments: the Scale for Evaluating Communication Patterns (adapted from Álvarez, 2008) and the Parent–Adolescent Communication Scale developed by Barnes and Olson (1987). The results evidenced a predominance of fluid communication among parents, whereas adolescents’ perception of the parental relationship was lower. In summary, the data obtained demonstrate that no direct relationship exists between both variables.Item Percepción del cuidador primario respecto al funcionamiento familiar en hogares con una persona adulta mayor con demencia en el Centro de Atención al Adulto Mayor (CAAM), Cuenca-Ecuador, año 2025(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-12) Llivichuzca Chocho, Irene Estefanía; Ochoa Balarezo,Juana VirginiaThe objective of this study is to describe the primary caregiver's perception of family functioning in households with an older adult with dementia at the Center for Elderly Care (CAAM) in Cuenca, Ecuador, in 2025. The methodology is qualitative, with interpretive and descriptive levels. The population consisted of 90 primary caregivers of older adults with dementia at the Center for Elderly Care. A sample of eight individuals who met the inclusion criteria of active participation was selected, and the principle of theoretical saturation was applied. The data collection technique used was a semi-structured interview. The results showed that the primary caregiver's perception of family functioning is diverse: some report strengthened bonds and assertive communication, while others point to conflicts and overload. An unequal redistribution of roles, increased dependence of the older adult, and significant adjustments in family routines were identified. In addition, a marked emotional impact due to stress was observed, although in certain cases family cohesion acts as a protective factor. It is concluded that dementia causes changes in family dynamics, therefore adaptability and solidarity are essential to mitigate tensions and maintain the stability of the family system. Lack of support and effective communication increases the perception of burden and deterioration of bonds, while cohesion promotes resilience and emotional well-being. These results confirm the need for comprehensive family support strategies.Item Presencia de patrones transgeneracionales de los padres y madres de familia en San José de Raranga Centro, Sígsig, Azuay, 2025(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-10) Avila Arévalo, Luis Fernando; Zhingri Villa, Jenny Maritza; Sánchez Loja, Wilson FernandoTransgenerational patterns are understood as relational links that connect individuals with the history of their family system, integrating beliefs, emotions, cultural practices, and forms of interaction that are reproduced across generations. The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between transgenerational transmission patterns and intergenerational behavioral patterns among fathers and mothers from the community of San José de Raranga Centro, canton Sígsig, province of Azuay, during the year 2025. The research was conducted using a quantitative approach with an exploratory-descriptive design. The sample consisted of 152 fathers and mothers, selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. Data were collected through a structured survey aimed at identifying transgenerational transmission patterns and intergenerational behavioral patterns. The results showed a predominance of extended families and a generalized presence of transgenerational transmission patterns such as myths, rituals, mandates, values, and traditions, reflecting a strong cultural rootedness within the community. Regarding behavioral patterns, a high presence of family support and conflict resolution strategies was identified; however, decision-making processes, family loyalty, and the distribution of roles and responsibilities showed variations among family systems. It is concluded that transgenerational patterns significantly influence family organization and the construction of intergenerational bonds, constituting key elements for the stability and continuity of the family system.Item Influencia de los Estilos de Crianza en el Comportamiento Socioemocional de los estudiantes de sexto y séptimo años de E.G.B de la Unidad Educativa “Alfonso María Borrero”, Año 2025(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-10) Álvarez Farfán, Samantha Jackeline; Muñoz Calero, Gabriel Humberto; Ordóñez Martínez, Lourdes NubeThis study, entitled “Influence of Parenting Styles on the Socio-Emotional Behavior of Sixth and Seventh Grade Students at the Alfonso María Borrero Educational Unit, 2025,” aimed to determine the relationship between the parenting styles employed by mothers, fathers, and/or legal guardians and the socio-emotional behavior of students. The research arose from the need to understand how parental practices influence social and emotional development, taking into account the scarcity of previous studies analyzing parenting styles and their relationship to socio- emotional behavior in this educational context. The study employed a quantitative approach, with a descriptive and correlational, non-experimental, cross-sectional design. A non-probabilistic, purposive sampling method was used, selecting sixth and seventh grade students and their mothers, fathers, and/or legal guardians. The study population consisted of 90 students and 90 parents/guardians, with a 95% confidence level and a 5% margin of error. Data collection was carried out using the Parenting Styles Questionnaire (PSQ) by García and Musitu (1999) and the Social Skills Questionnaire by Caballo (1993). Data analysis was performed using Excel and SPSS. The results show a predominance of average parenting styles and no statistically significant relationship with social skills, reflecting the coexistence of diverse parenting practices within the family system.Item Influencia de la Estructura Familiar y la Autoestima en el Desempeño Académico de los Estudiantes de Bachillerato, Jornada Vespertina de la Unidad Educativa “Luis Roberto Bravo” de la Ciudad de Cuenca, Ecuador. Periodo 2025 - 2026(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-10) Cuzco Guallpa, Carlos Israel; Campos Morocho, Jhonny Mateo; Ordóñez Martínez, Lourdes NubePoor academic performance in adolescents has been associated not only with cognitive factors, but also with family and psycho-emotional variables that influence their overall development. In this context, the present study aimed to analyze the association between family typology and self- esteem in the academic performance of high school students attending the afternoon session at the Luis Roberto Bravo Educational Unit, located in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. The research was conducted using a quantitative approach, with a descriptive, analytical, and cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 68 students in the first, second, and third years of the General Unified High School program. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire on family structure, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and first-quarter grades as academic indicators. The results showed a statistically significant relationship between self-esteem and academic performance, while no significant relationship was found between family type and academic performance. It is concluded that self-esteem is a relevant factor in the academic performance of adolescents, which highlights the importance of strengthening family support and educational guidance strategies from a preventive approach.Item Influencia de los Estilos de Crianza en la Autonomía de Estudiantes de Segundo y Tercer Año de Bachillerato, Jornada Vespertina, de la Unidad Educativa Leoncio Cordero Jaramillo, Cuenca - Ecuador, Año 2025(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-03-09) Loja Montesinos, Jessica Tatiana; Dávila Pontón, Yolanda PatriciaThe Leoncio Cordero Jaramillo Educational Unit has observed various behavioral problems among students, as well as a lack of or low self-confidence and difficulties in decision-making, referring directly to parenting styles as a determining factor in adolescent autonomy. Therefore, they considered the implementation of this research to be appropriate and relevant, with the intention that the results obtained could provide feedback and serve as a basis for future implementations in the educational process, in order to improve the comprehensive development of students. For data collection, two instruments were applied: the Parenting Styles Scale and the Autonomy Scale by Noom, Deković, and Meeus. The most relevant and noteworthy results of the research process were as follows: the population consisted of 25 students who met the ethical and participation criteria; it was found that the predominant parenting style was authoritative/democratic (64%), followed by neglectful (32%). In terms of autonomy, 52% of students achieved a high level, 40% a medium level, and 8% a low level. Likewise, the attitudinal dimension was found to be the most affected, with 38.46%. A direct relationship was identified between authoritative parenting styles and high levels of autonomy, while neglectful and authoritarian styles were associated with medium and low levels. These findings highlight the importance of parenting practices in the development of autonomous adolescents, providing significant insights for family and educational interventions.Item Caracterización de los casos atendidos en el área de Orientación Familiar en el Instituto de Criminología, Criminalística e Intervención Psicosocial Familiar de la Universidad de Cuenca-Ecuador 2012-2016(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2026-02-03) Molina Fajardo, Sebastián Alexander; Dávila Pontón, Yolanda PatriciaThis study analyzes the cases attended into the Family Guidance area of the Institute of Criminology, Criminalities, and Family Psychosocial Intervention at the University of Cuenca during the period 2012-2016. Using a quantitative-descriptive approach, the main characteristics of the cases, the intervention methods applied, and the common patterns within the families attended were identified. Preliminary results indicate that domestic violence, intergenerational conflicts, and family disintegration have been the most recurrent issues. Additionally, the importance of theoretical-practical practices carried out by students as part of their academic training is highlighted, contributing to the strengthening of the society and the development of effective intervention strategies. This study aims to provide relevant data for the design of preventive programs, the strengthening of public policies, and the improvement of professional training in the field of psychosocial intervention.Item Caracterización de la emigración y su impacto en la funcionalidad familiar en estudiantes de 18 a 25 años de la Facultad de Jurisprudencia, Universidad de Cuenca, periodo 2025(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2025-10-13) Calle Suin, Kevin Josue; Guzmán Jiménez, Alfonsina del RocíoThe purpose of this study was to examine the correlation between family emigration and the perception of the functionality of the family nucleus, from the perspective of university students between 18 and 25 years of age in Cuenca, Ecuador. The research used a quantitative methodological approach, with a non-experimental and cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 53 students who have direct migrant family members. For data collection, the Family Functioning Questionnaire (FF-SIL) was used together with a sociodemographic form. The findings indicate that the families present a moderate level of functioning, with relatively high scores in aspects such as affectivity and harmony, while the levels of adaptability and permeability are lower. In conclusion, it can be affirmed that, despite the challenges associated with emigration, many families maintain a balanced functional structure.Item Estilos de crianza y trastornos derivados del consumo de alcohol en estudiantes de 18-21 años de la carrera de Trabajo Social de la Universidad de Cuenca: febrero -julio 2025(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 2025-10-13) Poveda Carchipulla, María de los Ángeles; Lema Guallpa, Jessica Elizabeth; Ochoa Balarezo, Juana VirginiaThe purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between parenting styles and disorders related to alcohol consumption in students aged 18 to 21 from the Social Work program at the University of Cuenca during the February–July 2025 period. The study employed a quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional methodology, with a sample of 84 students enrolled in the Social Work program within the Faculty of Jurisprudence and Political and Social Sciences at the University of Cuenca. The instruments used were the Steinberg Parenting Styles Scale, adapted by Merino and Arndt, and the AUDIT (Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test). The sample was predominantly female (83.33%), with an average age of 19.49 years, and the majority were in the early semesters (44.05% in the second semester, 36.90% in the fourth). A total of 57.14% reported an authoritative parenting style. Additionally, 60.71% exhibited low-risk alcohol consumption, while 19.05% showed hazardous drinking behavior. The correlation between parenting style and alcohol consumption was weak (r = 0.14; p = 0.203). It is concluded that understanding the influence of parenting styles although not determinative—on alcohol consumption patterns can help in the preventive approach to psychosocial factors among university students.Item Vínculos y la calidad de vida que se generan con animales de compañía en las familias de la Parroquia Arcapamba del Cantón Zaruma(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-03-06) Sánchez Andrade, Dennis Steven; Guzmán Jiménez, Alfonsina del RocíoThis study focuses on describing how companion animals’ impact emotional bonds within families in the Arcapamba parish of Zaruma canton. First, it defines what constitutes a family and explains the importance of companion animals in strengthening these emotional bonds, where animals are not only seen as companions, but as promoters of emotional well-being, contributing to cohesion and strengthening interpersonal relationships within the household. The main objective of the research is to analyze the benefits and positive bonds that companion animals generate in the quality of life of these families. The type of research is qualitative, with a phenomenological approach, the scope is descriptive-exploratory and the research design is non-experimental. We worked with 15 families of the Arcapamba parish that have pets. The techniques applied included semi-structured interviews and direct observation. The results highlight that companion animals not only strengthen emotional bonds, but also reduce stress, improve mood, and foster values such as empathy and responsibility, especially in children. In conclusion, these bonds act as mediators in family dynamics, contributing to better communication and conflict resolution, which ultimately improves the quality of life of all members.
