Item Análisis comparativo entre la ciudad planificada y la ciudad construida. Caso Cuenca entre los años 2003 y 2018(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-11-14) Rojas Jiménez, Stephanye Karolina; Flores Juca, Gonzalo EnriqueThis research work analyzes data on land occupation in the peri-urban area of Cuenca, and in turn, this information is compared with what is established in the planning instruments to determine the degree of compliance with them. A theoretical framework is constructed to support the research, based on the historical description of the emergence of the city and, in turn, the definition of the planned city and the management of the city. The planning of the city of Cuenca since 1950 is analyzed. Then, the area of study and the methodology to be used to achieve the proposed objectives are established, the study variables are applied and the results are compared between the planned city and the built city. The results obtained will reflect the degree of compliance with the regulations in the real city. Finally, strategies or guidelines are established based on which programs, subprograms and projects are developed as a guide to make the planned city a reality, through the construction of an appropriate planning and management of land occupation in the peri-urban area.Item Análisis de accesibilidad del entorno construido en equipamientos educativos para personas con discapacidad físico-motora: instituciones de educación especial(2018) Chuquimarca Cuenca, Daysi Violeta; Montalvo Cedillo, Malena Patricia; González Llanos, Mónica Janeth; Flores Juca, Gonzalo Enrique; Salazar Guamán, Ximena AlejandrinaThe present study is based on a conceptualization to understand what accessibility means in the built environment of an inclusive center, emphasizing the physical-motor disability, then identify through a comparison between national and international standards, the points that will influence in the analysis of the education centers and subsequent proposal. Throughout the investigation seven special education centers are identified in the city of Cuenca, however, two of those are framed within the type of disability for the current study, to which a deeper analysis is conducted in order to determine the level of accessibility, establishing a percentage of compliance of the mentioned standards. Following this process, a proposal is made to improve the spaces within the site corresponding to the selected center, achieving optimal and more favorable conditions that ensure accessibility to their surroundings.Item Análisis prospectivo de la incidencia de la expansión urbana en el ámbito de la planificación territorial. Ciudad de Cuenca.(2022) Balseca Carrera, Mario BolivarDue to the rapid growth of the urban population and private motorization; expansion patterns in Latin America have begun to take shape under dispersed and fragmented models. The physical infrastructure of cities, which represent their urban space, grows ina random and disorderly manner, mostly in their peripheral areas, since they are directed to spaces that allow their occupation, in order to preserve a degree of proximity to the urban environment. In this sense, the present study proposes to define scenarios of the growth of the urban area of the city of Cuenca Ecuador for the year 2030 through the construction of space-time models, identifying areas that present undeveloped trends of change of land use over spaces. currently natural, in addition to interrelating how these areas are articulated to local territorial planning. The methodology applied to being hybridized raises Markov chains-cellular automata as part of the QGIS software complement called MOLUSCE (Modules for Land Use Change Simulation). The results revealed changes in the classification of urban land (comparison of surfaces between 2020 and 2030), affecting the reduction of agricultural soils (-0.69%), bodies of water (-0.01%) and natural vegetation (-1.40%). The areas where land changes are generated are mainly located in the outskirts of the city, which spatially match the areas projected within the local territorial planning as urban expansion land; however, social and economic issues have an impact on the reality of both projected and studied areas, as well as the lack of control of land use and management to monitor the proper implementation of sustainable plans and projectsItem Análisis sobre la inutilización de los equipamientos recreativos en el sector El Paraíso de la ciudad de Cuenca(2018) Almeida Román, María Cristina; Cardoso Rosales, Estefania Alexandra; Flores Juca, Gonzalo EnriqueCurrently, the recreational facilities of the city of Cuenca feature several flaws in terms of design and planning, which makes them useless. Therefore, this study is based on the need to produce solutions to increase their use in order to provide different areas for the development of recreational, playful and social activities of the people. This research work includes the analysis of playgrounds identified in the scope of study, featuring the area of El Paraíso in the city of Cuenca. Information regarding planning, accessibility, security and suitable fitting-out of public areas is analyzed. Finally, general guidelines are suggested in order to encourage the use of recreational facilities in both old and new areas.Item Aproximación espacial para la identificación de áreas de huertos familiares en zonas rurales: el caso de Sinincay – Cuenca – Ecuador.(2023) Flores Juca, Gonzalo Enrique; Gielen, Eric; Lucero Guaillazaca, Deicy VivianaMapping land use and delimiting study areas in the peripheral zones of cities has been one of the central themes of the literature on urban and territorial studies in Latin American countries with difficult access to data where transformation processes are accelerated. The objective of this study was to propose an applicable methodology for the detection of home garden areas in rural areas of Cuenca. It was based on the use of Sentinel-2 satellite images and unsupervised classification processes to identify possible cultivation areas. Based on this, spatial criteria were defined to classify and identify home gardens, based on the characteristics of the gardens themselves. A total of 699 gardens were identified in the field. Therefore, this study is a first approximation to the identification of home gardens in rural areas and constitutes very useful information for local governments, who are responsible for promoting these activities and in turn improving the production, mobilization, and marketing conditions of the vulnerable group that engages in subsistence agriculture. Thus, this research can be replicated in different localities and geographical contexts.Item Cambios en los patrones de movilidad en el núcleo central de Cuenca entre 1994 - 2024(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-08-28) Cárdenas Gómez, Erika Michelle; Sinchi Baque, Alex Leonel; Flores Juca, Gonzalo EnriqueThis study analyzes the transformations in land use and mobility patterns in the central core of Cuenca between 1994 and 2024, based on the thesis “The Pedestrianization of the Urban Core of Cuenca.” A conceptual framework supports the spatial comparative analysis through the use of indicators and cartographic overlay, evaluating variables such as land use, traffic, transport, and road infrastructure. By contrasting historical data with recent surveys, the results reveal a significant increase in commercial density following the 1999 designation as a Cultural Heritage site, generating high travel demand and placing pressure on existing road infrastructure. This commercial dynamic has driven the progressive displacement of residential functions toward the periphery. Likewise, interventions in road infrastructure have reduced vehicular traffic and increased the modal share of private vehicles, while the share of sustainable modes remains low. Based on these findings, future scenarios were developed to simulate possible urban evolutions, enabling the formulation of practical guidelines aimed at balancing commercial development and improving the sustainability of the mobility system. This work offers a replicable methodological approach, valuable for urban and sustainable planning in historical cities facing similar challenges.Item Dinámicas de movilidad en el marco del Covid-19: estrategias orientadas hacia la movilidad sostenible en la parroquia Baños, Cuenca(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-11-21) Barrera Calle, Jocelyne Gabriela; Ordóñez Brito, Mishelle Anaís; Flores Juca, Gonzalo EnriqueThe pandemic caused by Covid-19 has exposed the vulnerabilities, most of the times chronic of cities in Latin America.
