Item Calidad de vida de estudiantes universitarios foráneos de la Facultad de Psicología de la Universidad de Cuenca en el periodo septiembre 2023 -febrero 2024(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-02-20) Castillo Cambisaca, Melany Monserrath; Arias Medina, William PaúlThe students in internal mobility situations, also known as “foreign” students, face various challenges that can impact their quality of life. This study aimed to determine the overall perception of the quality of life of foreign university students, with specific objectives to describe the different dimensions of quality of life (physical health, psychological well-being, social relationships, and environment), differentiate the perception of quality of life based on sociodemographic and academic variables. The research was conducted with a quantitative descriptive approach, using a sample of 75 students. Data collection was carried out through the application of a sociodemographic and academic questionnaire, and the World Health Organization Quality of Life questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF). The results reveal that the majority of students perceive their quality of life as "normal" and "regular." Regarding dimensions, the social relationships dimension stands out compared to others. By gender, a higher percentage of males consider it "normal" compared to females. Students living alone show a quality of life ranging from "regular" to very poor. On the other hand, students who lack sufficient resources for their monthly expenses perceive their quality of life as "regular." In the academic context, students expressing "dissatisfaction" and "very dissatisfaction" perceive their quality of life as "regular".Item Consumo de alcohol y agresión en estudiantes de la Universidad de Cuenca(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-02-17) Robles García, Catherine Gabriela; Lalvay Guamán, Viviana Michelle; Arias Medina, William PaúlAlcohol consumption and aggression are problems of global concern that affect the entire population, especially young people. Alcohol intake generates neurological changes which cause negative consequences. It is related to aggression, which is a behavior that causes desires to cause physical or psychological harm, so it is necessary to identify the levels of aggression linked to alcohol consumption in university students. The type of study was analytical, cross-sectional and of quantitative methodology, with a non-experimental design and correlational scope. The sample was non-probabilistic for convenience with 223 students of the first and third cycle of the Medicine and Nursing careers of the University of Cuenca, aged between 18 and 20 years. The instruments Alcohol Use Disorders Inventory Test and Buss and Perry Aggression Questionnaire were applied. In addition, a statistical analysis was performed and the correlation between the variables was calculated. In addition, this alcohol consumption is significantly correlated with physical aggression (ρ = .24), however, there is no significant correlation with hostility (ρ = .07). As for the variables of aggression, they are strongly correlated with each other.Item Evidencia psicométrica del cuestionario sobre normas culturales: dignidad, imagen y honor en Cuenca(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-02-19) Quizhpe Espinosa, María José; Yanacallo Sigcha, Juan Sebastian; Arias Medina, William PaúlThe study reports psychometric evidence of structural and internal validity of the “Measurement Model for Cultural Norms: Dignity, Face, and Honor” questionnaire in a sample of 256 adults from Cuenca, Ecuador. Using an instrumental design, the psychometric properties were evaluated through exploratory factor analysis with data collected from a linguistically and culturally adapted questionnaire. The results revealed that an eight-factor structure provides greater accuracy in measuring cultural norms compared to five- and six-factor models. This structure includes dimensions such as the norm of masculinity ideology and integrative strategy, highlighting previously unidentified subdimensions. Although some items did not contribute significantly, the proposed model explains 54% of underscore the importance of considering specific cultural contexts when adapting psychological instruments, suggesting revisions to enhance their applicability and validity in future research.Item Percepciones de estudiantes de la Universidad de Cuenca respecto al fenómeno de la corrupción, periodo septiembre 2023-febrero 2024(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-02-15) Salinas Avila, Andrea Cristina; Ordoñez Hurtado, Leonardo Israel; Arias Medina, William PaúlCorruption in Ecuador represents a social, political, and cultural problem that instigates insecurity and undermines governmental credibility. Understanding this phenomenon is imperative for devising strategies aimed at reducing its prevalence. The overarching objective of this research was to comprehend how students at the University of Cuenca perceive the phenomenon of corruption during the period from September 2023 to February 2024. Th is study employed a phenomenological design complemented by a deductive thematic analysis. A convenience sampling method was utilized to select 19 participants from various faculties. Data collection involved in-depth semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions. Participants identified favoritism, exchanges of sexual favors, bribery, nepotism, and academic fraud as corrupt practices, while acknowledging gender and power disparities. They underscored the normalization of certain practices and recognized that corruption disproportionately affects women and marginalized groups. Emotionally, corruption induces discomfort, particularly in witnesses, and justifications were identified. Participants described it as a structural flaw in the government system, linked to personalized power and individualistic thinking. These findings emphasize the complexity and multidimensional impact of corruption, highlighting the necessity for comprehensive strategies within Ecuadorian society.Item Percepciones de la población cuencana sobre las personas venezolanas: actitudes y discursos en torno a población en situación de movilidad humana(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-02-28) Moscoso Zúñiga, Danny Elián; González Astudillo, Charbeth Alejandro; Arias Medina, William PaúlSocial perception refers to the impressions that people have about others, considering that the different elements of information obtained about something participate as a whole generating a dynamic impression, difficult to predict from the separate elements; the general objective of this research was based on identifying the perceptions of the population of Cuenca that has interacted with the Venezuelan population, based on the identification of attitudes and characterization of discourses. In this study, a semi-structured interview was used as an instrument, applied in the parishes of San Joaquín and Bellavista in the city of Cuenca, which allowed finding different topics within the categories: attitudes and discourses. Within the results, attitudes and discourses linked to exclusion towards the Venezuelan population were predominantly found; the Venezuelan population is related to situations of begging, delinquency, lack of employment, which converge in an existing and latent cultural clash within the population of Cuenca. The result of this research will help to generate future state interventions, in addition to contributing to the base project proposed by PYDLOS.Item Relación entre funcionalidad familiar e inteligencia emocional intrapersonal en niños y niñas de unidades educativas fiscales urbanas de la ciudad de Cuenca en el periodo 2022(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-05-05) Araujo Pérez, Rosa Isabel; Corte Pérez, Alex Xavier; Arias Medina, William PaúlFamily function is the ability of the members of the family to interact harmoniously among themselves. An important factor to consider when talking about family function is intrapersonal emotional intelligence, since individuals who had a safe attachment style in childhood have adequate levels of intrapersonal emotional intelligence and show higher levels of well-being. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between family function and intrapersonal emotional intelligence in children from urban public schools in the city of Cuenca in 2022. The research was developed from a quantitative approach, non-experimental design, cross-sectional and correlational scope, applied on a sample of 92 students aged between 9 and 11 years old. A database was used that applied the Family APGAR questionnaire, TMMS-24 scale, and a sociodemographic cuestionnaire. The results revealed that the predominant family function category was normal family function. Besides, no statistically significant differences were found between sex categories in any of the dimensions of intrapersonal emotional intelligence and emotional repair was the predominant. It is concluded that there is a positive relationship of moderate and low level in most of the components of family function and the dimensions of intrapersonal emotional intelligence.Item Relación entre la motivación de servicio público y la orientación al valor social con la disposición a cometer actos de soborno en estudiantes de la Universidad de Cuenca en el periodo septiembre 2024-febrero 2025(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-02-17) Cali Ramón, Denise; Merchán Rojas, Emily Samantha; Arias Medina, William PaúlBribery is commonly known as the act of offering money or any other benefit of interest in exchange for the performance of personal favors. Therefore, this study examined the relationship between public service motivation (PSM) and social value orientation (SVO) with willingness to commit bribery. A standardized measure of MSP and OVS was conducted, and a vignette treatment was implemented for willingness to commit bribery. This study had a quantitative approach, non-experimental design and correlational scope. The sample consisted of 230 students belonging to the faculties of Engineering, Psychology, Economics and Administrative Sciences, and Law and Political and Social Sciences of the University of Cuenca. The results revealed significant positive correlations among the four PSM dimensions, suggesting a close interrelationship among them. As for the willingness to commit bribery, a significant negative correlation was identified between it and the attraction to public policy making (APP) dimension in the case of white bribery. However, no evidence was found of significant correlations between PSM or OVS and willingness to commit bribery in the gray and black bribery types.
