Consequently, it is crucial to understand characteristics linked to non-academic aspects; in this regard, empirical evidence highlights the relevance of psychological constructs such as Self-concept and Academic Engagement in the educational context. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between Self-concept and Academic Engagement in economics students at PUCE during the 2023-2024 period. A methodology with a quantitative focus, nonexperimental design, correlational scope, and cross-sectional analytical approach was employed. This syndrome manifests itself mainly in workers whose occupations involve dealing with others such as teachers and doctors. On the other hand, psychological well-being incorporates job satisfaction, professional commitment, and general life satisfaction. Therefore, examining the balance between the personal and work life of teachers has become a crucial avenue of research due to the implications for educational outcomes. This study, with a quantitative approach, non-experimental cross-sectional design and correlational scope, aims to determine the correlation between burnout syndrome (BS) and psychological well-being (PWB) in teachers of the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Cuenca. In total 33 teachers responded to the Maslach Burnout Inventory and the adapted PERMA profile. Correlations between SB dimensions and sociodemographic variables were examined. Descriptive analyzes were performed and statistical tests were chosen based on the distribution characteristics of the data. In conclusion, this population does not manifest Burnout syndrome. However, the findings revealed statistically significant correlations between BP and the SB dimensions of personal accomplishment and emotional exhaustion. Likewise, four sociodemographic variables: daily medication intake, weekly hours of classes, months of work, and number of subjects, influence the SB. Finally, it is intended that this study contributes to the development of preventive interventions to ensure better mental health and work performance among university teachers.Item Burnout y depresión en docentes de la Unidad Educativa Francisca Dávila de Muñoz de la ciudad de Cuenca, 2023(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-01-25) Placencia Orellana, Nancy Patricia; Reyes Trelles, Xavier FabricioThe way in which primary education teachers address changes in the workplace environment influences the perception of stress and psychological well-being at work, potentially contributing to the development of depressive processes. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to correlate burnout syndrome and depression among teachers at the Francisca Dávila de Muñoz Educational Unit in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador, in 2023. A non-experimental, crosssectional quantitative approach with a correlational scope was employed. The Zung SelfRating Depression Scale, the Maslach Burnout Inventory questionnaire, and a sociodemographic data sheet were administered to 39 teachers. The results revealed low levels of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, and high levels of personal accomplishment. Overall, it is concluded that there was an absence of burnout syndrome, and similarly, the majority did not exhibit depression. No statistically significant association was found between the levels of burnout syndrome dimensions and depression levels, nor between these two factors and sociodemographic variables. Ultimately, the nature of teaching involves social interaction, which may act as a protective factor against developing depression. It is suggested that future research consider a larger sample size and the use of instruments adapted to the context.Item Burnout, ansiedad y satisfacción laboral en el personal de la Gobernación del Azuay, periodo 2024-2025(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-09-30) Trelles Ludeña, Katherine Nicole; Delgado Quezada, Tania LorenaStress is a natural human response to the demands of the environment; however, when prolonged in the workplace, it can trigger negative consequences such as burnout syndrome and anxiety, negatively impacting employee satisfaction, performance, and productivity. In the public sector, these issues are relevant due to the heavy workload and constant pressure associated with serving the public. The results showed significant relationships between the dimensions of burnout, anxiety, and job satisfaction. Burnout and anxiety were negatively correlated with job satisfaction; specifically, cynicism was the main predictor of decreased job satisfaction, followed by emotional exhaustion and somatic anxiety. These findings highlight the need to implement institutional strategies aimed at promoting the psychosocial well-being of public employees.Item Calidad de los procesos de mediación familiar realizados en Centros de Mediación pertenecientes a Cuenca, Azuay, en el año 2023(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-07-13) Campos Castro, Camila Inés; Loaiza González, Jhenefer GabrielaFamily mediation is an alternative conflict resolution process that prioritizes the well-being of the family so that the parties involved can resolve or minimize the dispute; Through interdisciplinary dialogue, psychologists and other legal operators act together as mediators. Ecuador appears to have one of the highest rates of alcohol consumption in Latin America. The aim of this study was to determine relationships between alcohol consumption and safe sex behaviours among students at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Cuenca, 2023. Three research objectives guided the study and null hypothesis was tested. The study used a quantitative, non-experimental design with correlational scope. A sample of 318 students was composed through stratified and random sampling. Data was collected using a Socio demographic Form, Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test (AUDIT) and Safe Sex Behaviour Questionnaire (SSBQ). The independent variable was alcohol consumption. The dependent variable was safe sexual behaviour. Frequencies and percentages were used to answer objectives one and two. Pearson Chi square test was used to answer objective three and to test the hypothesis. About a tenth of the students were involved in hazardous alcohol consumption while majority of the students practiced safe sexual behaviours. There was no statistically significant relationship between alcohol consumption and SSBQ, X2 (6, N =318) = 3.48, P = 0.74. Key conclusion is that regardless of the student’s participation in alcohol consumption, majority were able to practice safe sexual behaviours. It may be helpful for future researchers to focus on exploring other factors that may influence the relationship between alcohol consumption and safe sexual behaviours among undergraduate students.Item Consumo de alcohol y síndrome de burnout en conductores de transporte mixto del cantón Paute, periodo 2024-2025(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-07-23) Cáceres Once, Hernán Enrique; Reyes Trelles, Xavier FabricioAlcohol consumption, even in minimal doses, can alter essential brain functions. Low-intensity correlations were found among variables such as alcohol consumption, exhaustion, cynicism, workdays and hours, job satisfaction, daily income, and goal achievement. These findings highlight relevant links between psychosocial factors and working conditions in this population.Item Credibilidad de testimonio en víctimas de abuso sexual infantil para psicólogos peritos en Cuenca-Azuay en el año 2024(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-05-27) Méndez Rodas, Andrea Fernanda; Muñoz Arteaga, Pedro AndrésIn recent years, the advances of scientific and technical knowledge have increased in the legal field for decision-making in criminal proceedings, especially in cases of child sexual abuse. Due to its development, the aim is to prove the objective or material truth of the facts that are judged, demonstrating them with evidence so that the judge has complete clarity of what happened, who was involved, the role that each party played, and where and when the event occurred in order to attain the procedural truth with infallible results. This is necessary to identify problems in the administration of justice related to the conduct of psychological assessments and evaluations, which are often carried out inappropriately due to either a lack of a protocol or reliance on an outdated one as a guide. The objective of this work was to investigate and understand the experiences on the credibility of testimony in victims of child sexual abuse perceived by expert psychologists in Cuenca, Azuay in 2024.
