Item Hábitos alimenticios y rendimiento académico en estudiantes de segundo y octavo ciclo de la Facultad de Arquitectura de la Universidad de Cuenca en el periodo académico marzo-agosto 2024(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-02-15) Azanza La Rosa, Celso Israel; Bustamante Verdugo, Maria Isabel; López Orellana, Cindy TatianaCurrently, the importance of studying the relationship between dietary habits and academic performance has been well-documented. However, in Ecuador, a significant research gap exists on this topic. This study aimed to examine the relationship between eating behaviors and dietary habits and academic performance among students in the second and eighth semester at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Cuenca. The research was quantitative, correlational in scope, and employed a non-experimental, cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 102 students enrolled in the second and eighth semester at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Cuenca. To measure the first variable, the Survey of Eating Behaviors and Dietary Habits in Higher Education (ECHAES) was administered. For the second variable, participants’ grade point averages were requested from the Faculty of Architecture's Secretariat. The findings revealed that students generally exhibit adequate dietary habits. Additionally, students in the eighth academic semester demonstrated higher academic performance compared to those in the second semester. However, no significant correlation was identified between academic performance and dietary habits. Notably, the "Dietary Guidelines" dimension, characterized by the consumption of legumes, vegetables, proper hydration, and adherence to recommended meals, showed a low positive correlation with academic performance. These findings contribute to the ongoing debate on the interaction between these variables, highlighting the need for further research in this area.
