Item Accesibilidaden el espacio público para personas con movilidad reducida. Cuenca como caso de estudio(2017) Bustos Piedra, María Elisa; Marín Palacios, Mateo Sebastian; Hermida Palacios, María AugustaAccessibility and mobility in urban public space is a key component to cities sustainability. However, mobility’s planning has strongly privileged motorized vehicles, leaving pedestrians and people with reduced mobility behind as last term. This investigation presents a study that generates an accessibility index in 214 sections choose around the city using stratified random. On the basis of two variables, the first one was verifying the extent of compliance of the regulation for accessibility in public space for people with reduced mobility “Ordenanza Municipal sobre Discapacidad de Cuenca” valid since 2010. Seventeen parameters were analyzed in each section, that were grouped in 67 routes. The second variable was the identified obstacles that impede an appropriate mobility and the difficulty of overcoming them. For the obstacles mapping there were carried our three different journeys: without simulation, with simulation of reduced mobility using a baby stroller or a wheel chair and with wheelchair users, that helped validate the data obtained with simulation. The results indicate a critical condition of accessibility in Cuenca and a significant difference between journeys made with simulation and wheelchair users; therefore, a series of intervention models are proposed based on the most representative obstacles and the experience of wheelchair users, aiming to improve accessibility in the built environment.Item Análisis de accesibilidad del entorno construido en equipamientos educativos para personas con discapacidad físico-motora: instituciones de educación especial(2018) Chuquimarca Cuenca, Daysi Violeta; Montalvo Cedillo, Malena Patricia; González Llanos, Mónica Janeth; Flores Juca, Gonzalo Enrique; Salazar Guamán, Ximena AlejandrinaThe present study is based on a conceptualization to understand what accessibility means in the built environment of an inclusive center, emphasizing the physical-motor disability, then identify through a comparison between national and international standards, the points that will influence in the analysis of the education centers and subsequent proposal. Throughout the investigation seven special education centers are identified in the city of Cuenca, however, two of those are framed within the type of disability for the current study, to which a deeper analysis is conducted in order to determine the level of accessibility, establishing a percentage of compliance of the mentioned standards. Following this process, a proposal is made to improve the spaces within the site corresponding to the selected center, achieving optimal and more favorable conditions that ensure accessibility to their surroundings.Item Criterios e indicadores para la planificación urbana de los espacios recreativos y áreas verdes en asentamientos concentrados de las parroquias rurales del cantón Cuenca: aplicación en la parroquia Ricaurte(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-09-25) Mendoza Naranjo, Nora Thalia; Paltin Matute, Jennifer Nathaly; González Llanos, Mónica JanethThis research addresses the need to strengthen urban planning processes in concentrated settlements of the rural parishes of Cuenca canton, with the aim of ensuring equitable access to recreational spaces and green areas. The main objective was to establish criteria and indicators for the proper allocation of land reserves for these spaces, applying the proposal to the parish of Ricaurte. The study follows a mixed-methods approach structured in five phases: 1) development of the conceptual and regulatory framework, 2) analysis of case studies, 3) formulation of criteria and indicators, 4) application in the study area, and 5) systematization of results. The methodology included document analysis, the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and the development of indicators tailored to the rural context. Strategic areas for land allocation were identified based on accessibility, physical suitability, and infrastructure availability. The proposed methodology contributes to the technical strengthening of planning in concentrated rural settlements and may be replicated in other parishes of the canton. Finally, the proposed indicators proved effective in guiding urban planning processes grounded in specific and contextualized criteria.Item La movilidad en el acceso a los centros educativos: caso de estudio sector Universidad del Azuay, Cuenca - Ecuador(2017) Gutiérrez Chicaiza, Priscila del Cisne; Auquilla Zambrano, Jaime Mauricio; Salazar Guamán, Ximena AlejandrinaThe present research analyses the relationship between the mobility transport system and the location of the main services offered by the city, based on vehicle composition as well as pedestrians´ and drivers´ behavioral patterns. In the case of Cuenca, because of its considerable expansion process, its different sectors cannot be considered homogeneous, therefore each analysis and proposal generated have a methodological scheme in common allowing problems´ detection. A relevant methodological process is direct observation, both for vehicles and for pedestrians, identifying situations or behaviors that can only be detected in situ. The mobility transport system around the study area and the term itself is complex; therefore, it is necessary to carry out a theoretical analysis accompanied by case studies to establish criteria for future diagnosis and proposal. Subsequently, based on the defined criteria, a methodological scheme is established. Here motorized and non-motorized means of transportation are studied in detail, as well as the different population behaviors influencing the mobility system. Finally, based on objectives and strategies, a set of guidelines is proposed to solve the detected mobility problems; being also important to consider them when intervening or constructing a public space. This is how along three chapters the aim is to improve and feasible the mobility system and access to the educational centers of Universidad del Azuay and Unidad Educativa Particular La Asunción.Item Redescubriendo la ciudad. Proyecto de intervención en sitio: análisis y propuesta "la ruta de la ceguera"(2018) Herrera Rengel, Sebastián Fabricio; Rodas Rodríguez, María Augusta; Luna Criollo, Patricia VerónicaIn the last decades, an important interest in subjects related to disability and its accessibility to the physical environment is experienced internationally. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a person with disabilities that corresponds to the same rights, as a city, territory and public policies that guarantee adequate accessibility and mobility, regardless of their physical characteristics. In the city of Cuenca, it is evident that the regulations on “Accessibility to the physical environment for people with visual impairment” are not met in urban-architectural projects, due to lack of knowledge and outdated regulations as well as the dismantling of functions of the entrusted entities. Several of the normative criteria do not take into account the real needs of vulnerable users, so it is necessary to evaluate them. Through a production technique and a series of ephemeral interventions in De las Herrerías street, based on normative criteria, the aim is to contribute to the rethinking of the Ecuadorian Technical Standard, aiming to improve accessibility conditions and the quality of life of the population.Item Rediseño urbano-arquitectónico de un parque barrial para el bienestar del adulto mayor en el área urbana de la ciudad de Cuenca(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-04-05) Reyes Ochoa, Ximena Isabel; Vélez Hernández, Camila Andrea; Astudillo Cordero, Jaime SebastiánMost of the neighborhood parks located in the urban limits of the city of Cuenca have common characteristics; they are usually designed for a group stereotype and discriminate against users with different types of limitations and disabilities. Such is the case of older adults who are conditioned in this type of spaces by their design and function. Demographic data foresee an increase in the population of people over 60 years of age. This means that goods, infrastructure, programs and projects must be designed for this growing population sector. The need for a park for the elderly is evident, so a design that satisfies the current deficiencies is also evident. In order to obtain favorable results and a good architectural urban design, it is proposed to analyze basic concepts related to public space and the elderly. Through the Qualitative Data Methodology of Open Public Spaces, in addition to other criteria, relevant case studies will be analyzed. Also under the same methodology, added to the one applied in the article Urban parks as indicators of quality of life, symbols of well-being and spaces for recreational use: an investigation in Bucaramanga (Colombia) a qualitative diagnosis of neighborhood parks located in the PIT of Machanga and Yanuncay. Choosing through these criteria the Iberia Park. Finally, under a site analysis and previous strategies of the different chapters to generate a correct redesign of a neighborhood park for the welfare of the elderly in the urban area of the city of Cuenca.
