Emotional intelligence directly influences individual ́s personal development and could influence entrepreneurship skills as well. The objectives of this study were to assess the construct validity, internal consistency, and metric invariance of the Spanish version of the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS-S), and the Entrepreneurial Attitudes Scale for Students (EASS) and correlate the levels of emotional intelligence and entrepreneurship in a sample of university students (n=558). The validity, reliability, and invariance analysis reveal adequate goodness of fit, internal consistency and equivalence. In addition, statistically significant correlations were found between all dimensions of the scales. The Entrepreneurship and Emotional Intelligence Scales have adequate psychometric properties. In professional training, emotional intelligence acts as a decision-making ability and entrepreneurial capacity as a factor for future development

Anxiety and Emotional Intelligence Analysis of Caregivers and Non-caregivers During the COVID-19 Pandemic in Ecuador
(Springer, 2023) Tacuri Reino, René David; Guerrero Jimenez, Kattya Mineska
Several studies point to the emergence of mental health risk factors such as anxiety during the pandemic. Although emotional intelligence could help as a protective factor, it is still unclear whether these factors could be differentiated when people serve as caregivers of others. In that sense, our research aimed to analyze the relationship of emotional intelligence and anxiety in caregivers and non-caregivers during pandemic. Study participants were 60 university students distributed among 28 caregivers and 32 non-caregivers. The study had a descriptive and cross-sectional non-experimental design, and measures included the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS) and the Hamilton Anxiety Scale. The results showed that there were no significant differences between the caregiver and non-caregiver groups. However, we found a significant correlation between anxiety and emotional intelligence levels, where a higher level of emotional intelligence would produce lower levels of anxiety. We concluded that emotional intelligence can be considered as a protective factor for mental health. We suggest extending our findings to new analyses with variables such as resilience and uncertainty.

(2021) Tacuri Reino, René David; Romero Cisneros, Denisse Micaela; Pacheco Ortega, Jimmy Mauricio; Guerrero Jimenez, Kattya Mineska
The research examined the relationship between emotional intelligence and anxiety incaregiver and non-caregiver college students during the corona pandemic. Several studies indicate the emergence of mental health risk factors, such as anxiety, during a health emergency. Whereas emotional intelligence could help as a protective factor, itis a question of whether this and other factors differentiate when people act as caregiver. Sixty college students, respectively 28 caregivers and 32 non-caregivers, participated in this study. The research had a descriptive and cross-sectional non-experimental design and used the Wong and Law' Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS) and the Hamilton Anxiety scale as instruments for measuring the relationship between anxiety and emotional intelligence. The results showed that no significant differences exist between the group of caregivers and non-caregivers while a significant correlation was found between anxiety and emotional intelligence levels; higher levels of emotional intelligence produce lower levels of psychic anxiety. The findings of this explorative study suggest considering in future research variables such as resilience and uncertainty

Análisis de bienestar de estudiantes universitarios. Un estudio de caso con estudiantes de psicología
(2021) Lopez Solis, Maria Cristina; Tacuri Reino, René David; Quizhpi Criollo, Franco Santiago
From the beginning of the pandemic, the confinement stage has affected various social groups' living conditions, including college students, globally. In many cases, the pandemic has affected their well-being. This research is aimed to analyze university students' well-being duringthe confinement stage and distinguish its influence from habits, routine, affective relationships, and religious practices. The participants were fifty-two university students from the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Cuenca, who were evaluated through the Ecuadorian Adaptation of the PERMA Profile. The results indicated that the participants presented a good level of well-being with a general mean of 7.95, highlighting the purpose factor. The variables that were significant in relation to the three well-being factors were affective relationships and established routine. In conclusion, the levels of well-being of these university students are good; also, hygiene habits, hobbies, religious practices, exercise practice and eating habits did not prove to be completely influential, however, it turned out that an organized routine and affective relationships favor well-being. These findings suggest expanding new research related to new forms of socialization after the pandemic, further deepening habits, coping strategies and resilience

Comprensión lectora en estudiantes de educación básica superior: estudio de caso de una unidad educativa del cantón Cuenca
(2023) Tacuri Reino, René David; Cantos Pacheco, Andrea Domenica; Chacha Chiriap, Max Mauricio
Comprehension is the goal of reading and in adolescents, it is more necessary since they require access to complex content. According to the PISA 2019 report, 15-year-old students in Ecuador reach a minimum level of reading literacy skills, which means that they can answer tasks in which they must locate direct information and make simple inferences. The objective of this research was to determine the levels of reading comprehension in 8th-year students of basic general education at the San Francisco Educational Unit, Cuenca-Ecuador. The study followed a quantitative approach with a descriptive scope, cross-sectional and nonexperimental design. Fifty-two students from 12 to 14 years old from the morning and afternoon sessions of the mentioned educational institution participated. The students were given the reading comprehension test of the EVALEC-8 instrument (Battery to assess reading competence) which lasted approximately 46 minutes. The results obtained indicated that eighth-grade students are at a basic reading level, that is, they present greater difficulties both at the level of literal and global comprehension concerning reading texts. On the other hand, neither age nor gender directly influenced the level of reading comprehension in students. It was concluded that the participants need intervention to strengthen the evaluated skill. It would be expected that from these results, the educational institution and the family propose alternatives to enhance comprehension through habits and motivation toward reading.

Habilidades de lectura en niños con síndrome de Irlen
(2024) Bernal Arellano, Walter Marcelo; Tacuri Reino, René David
Visual perceptual distortions and physical discomfort that cause difficulties in reading are some of the characteristics of Irlen syndrome. This study examined if students with Irlen syndrome, assessed with different reading tasks, present differences in reading skills when compared to those without the condition. Participants were 110 fourth and fifth graders (mean age = 8.6 years), 55 with Irlen syndrome (ISG group) and 55 without the syndrome (control group). Researchers applied the Irlen Reading Perceptual Scale to evaluate the Irlen Syndrome and the PROLEC-R Test to assess reading processes. The results showed significant group differences in Word Reading, Pseudoword Reading, Punctuation Marks, Sentence, and Text Comprehension. Oral comprehension in the auditory modality was not significantly different, which would support the idea that Irlen syndrome seems to be related to visual sensory processes. In conclusion, participants with Irlen syndrome presented impaired reading processes that might affect overall visual comprehension but not oral reading comprehension.

El inventario de funcionamiento ejecutivo para niños (CHEXI): evidencia sicométrica en una muestra de escolares ecuatorianos
(2024) Tacuri Reino, René David; Arias Medina, William Paúl; Bernal Arellano, Walter Marcelo
The Childhood Executive Functioning Inventory (CHEXI) is a widely used test in educational settings to identify deficits in Executive Functions (EF). This study aimed to adapt and evaluate the Spanish version of CHEXI in a sample of participants from Ecuador (n = 467). The study measured understanding using slightly different versions of the instrument, one initially administered to 373 participants and another with three item changes used to assess 144 new participants. Cronbach’s alpha (α) and McDonald’s omega (ω) were used to assess internal consistency. Absolute (χ²/df) and incremental fit indices (CFI, TLI, SRMR, RMSEA) evaluated construct validity. The two-factor structure of CHEXI (Working Memory and Inhibition) was successfully replicated, demonstrating a good fit and high internal consistency. The Spanish version, with the two first-order correlated factors and modifications in items 10, and 22, was deemed suitable for assessing EF in children aged 8 to 12. We found that modifying the statements improved the instrument’s psychometric properties for Ecuador.

La relación del logro de la lectura con la lateralidad, el movimiento ocular sacádico y el color en los niños
(2018) Bernal Arellano, Walter Marcelo; Tacuri Reino, René David; Buñay Andrade, Roman Mauricio
Several authors consider reading an important activity in school, professional and personal life. Perceptual processes, hemispheric lateralization, vision and phonological awareness are factors that intervene in reading skills that can influence the way oflearning. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the use of Irlen color transparencies on the quality of ocular follow-up during reading and the possible relationship with laterality. Participants werefifty-three (53) children, 6 and 7 years old, respectively 32 children with Irlen Syndrome (IS) or visual stress and 21 children as the reference group. All children were subjected to a series of visual standard tests to assess color blindness (Ishihara test), neuropsychological maturity (CUMANES test), Irlen syndrome (IRPS test1) and rapid eye movement (K-D test2). Research results reveal that reading capacity is not related to laterality, the use of color significantly improves the perceptual process of reading, and differences in reading attainment is noteworthy between children with Irlen and children without Irlen syndrome. New studies are suggested to consider the effect of attentional abilities, phonological awareness, and verbal memory in reading.
