It is based on a qualitative approach with a hermeneutic and analytical design that uses specific criteria to critically classify the existing academic literature. Among the background, it highlights the prison crisis in Ecuador, marked by overcrowding, violence and lack of focus on the particular needs of women, who face double marginalization due to their gender and incarcerated status. The central issue revolves around how androcentric and patriarchal approaches have limited the critical analysis of women's experiences in this context. The findings reveal that the studies reviewed lack a gender and intersectionality perspective, which perpetuates structural inequalities and a systematic exclusion of women prisoners. As a contribution, the study emphasizes the need to incorporate these perspectives in future analyses to ensure more inclusive and equitable prison policies. Its implications highlight the urgency of making the realities of these women visible in academia, facilitating transformations that promote social justice and respect for their human rights. New Pornography in Adolescents in the Cuenca Canton and its Relationship with Sex-affective Behaviors, Sexual Violence, and Gender Violence Against Women." Although there has been an increase in female participation in these areas in recent years, significant gaps persist that still hinder the access and permanence of many women in decision-making and political representation spaces. This research is focused on analyzing the Political Participation and Gender Focus of Cuenca Councilwomen in the 2019- 2023 term, identifying the obstacles and challenges they face when accessing these spaces, and their active commitment to improving the situation of the women they represent. The methodology applied in this research is qualitative with explanatory scope, based on the Latin American action-participation research design. The convenience sampling technique, a nonprobabilistic method, was applied. For this purpose, research techniques such as five life stories within politics and five in-depth interviews were conducted, providing various analysis themes such as active participation, political involvement and commitment, experiences within the political sphere, and the impact of female representation that allowed addressing the implication of female representation in politics. After a thorough analysis of the experiences recounted by the councilwomen, it was observed that they experienced political violence, and these acts were replicated by the media, with some even considering resigning from their positions. Time management also emerged as a challenge, as balancing political responsibilities with roles as mothers and caregivers proved difficult. In an attempt to be heard in a predominantly male environment, some councilwomen felt the need to adopt more masculinized attitudes. Despite these complications, their commitment to improving society and promoting women's rights remained steadfast, highlighting the resilience and determination of these women in the local political sphere.Item Análisis de la pobreza multidimensional con enfoque de género en recicladores de base del cantón Cuenca(Universidad de Cuenca, 2020-09-16) Abril Ortiz, Adriana Lorena; Bueno Loja, Blanca YolandaCurrent consumption and production patterns are unsustainable, and waste pickers in Latin America are key stakeholders, since they favor increasing recycling rates in a region with precarious waste management systems. Therefore, this research analyzes poverty of time and power in waste pickers based on the theory of multidimensional poverty. Recycling at the foot of the sidewalk is part of the informal sector and is carried out mainly (80%) by women in Cuenca canton. This feminized activity is traversed by structural violence, in terms of poverty and patriarchy. A qualitative study of poverty was carried out, based on semi-structured interviews with nine organized and independent women waste pickers during the first half of 2020. The results show the perceptions and feelings of women regarding the use of time and violence. The space in which recycling is carried out, whether on the streets, is violent, due to the struggle of sectors to guarantee access to the material, and at home, in which the material is classified, due to direct violence of which they are victims, their main aggressors are their partners. The poverty of time that arises from the sexual division of labor is reflected in their exclusion from the formal labor market, compared to recycling as an opportunity to care and produce. Any local policy must consider that informal recycling in the canton is a feminized activity and strategies require understanding poverty from a gender perspective.Item Análisis de la violencia con enfoque de género en el noviazgo adolescente en la ciudad de Cuenca(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-01-03) Chuni Ramón, Enma Carolina; Mendieta Orellana, Mónica ElisabethIn adolescence, the first dating relationships often develop, however, young people often confuse possessive behaviors with displays of affection. Romantic love is based on an androcentric society based on prejudices that establish how love should be in affective relationships; manifestations such as the exclusivity of the couple, ideals of the perfect man and woman; possessive jealousy as evidence of love, are acts of violence that correlate with submission and power. In this context, the research on dating in adolescence is relevant, it gathered 580 adolescents from 12 to 19 years of age from educational institutions in the most populated parishes of the city of Cuenca. The sample was 389 students, which corresponds to 67% who live or lived a dating relationship. An online survey was applied to collect data on physical, psychological and sexual violence and its possible consequences experienced by adolescents in dating relationships with their partners. The results were analyzed in a differentiated manner for men and women, with a gender perspectiveItem Análisis de la vivencia de la masculinidad en hombres no heterosexuales de la Universidad de Cuenca, 2024, a partir de los aportes teóricos de Bell Hooks y Raewyn Connell(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-09-10) Chillogallo Peña, Dennis Ismael; Serrano Cabrera, David Matias; Paño Yánez, Pablo JoséThis research analyzes how non-heterosexual male students at the University of Cuenca experience masculinity, drawing on the theoretical contributions of Bell Hooks and Raewyn Connell. Using a qualitative methodology, semi-structured interviews were conducted, coded, and analyzed with Atlas.ti, which allowed the organization of the information into four key categories: hegemonic masculinity and self-perception, reproduction of hegemonic masculinity, consequences of hegemonic masculinity, and alternative masculinities. The study is based on the understanding of masculinity as a social construction reproduced through norms, mechanisms of socialization, and institutions. In the first category, conflicts were identified between the participants’ self-definition and the expectations imposed by traditional gender models, particularly in relation to their sexual orientation. The second category examines how spaces such as family and schools reinforce a normative and exclusionary masculine model from childhood. The third category presents the emotional, social, and psychological consequences of adhering to these mandates, showing that hegemonic masculinity generates discomfort, emotional repression, and limited interpersonal relationships among participants. Finally, the last category highlights the emergence of more empathetic, expressive, and free forms of masculinity that represent an active resistance to the patriarchal model. The contributions of Hooks and Connell not only enabled the interpretation of the narratives but also revealed how non-heterosexual identities challenge the reproduction of hegemonic masculinity. The analysis demonstrates that these men not only face the impositions of the patriarchal system but also develop affective, ethical, and personal strategies that distance themselves from what is traditionally considered to be a man.Item Análisis de las brechas de género en la distribución y realización de tareas domésticas entre estudiantes de la Unidad Educativa José María Vélez extensión 598-A, Sinincay. Año 2024(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-01-09) Aucapiña Pinduizaca, Christian Santiago; Mendieta Orellana, Mónica ElisabethThe present investigation focuses on the gender gaps in the distribution and implementation of domestic tasks among students of men and women of the “José María Vélez extension 58- A” Educational Unit Sinincay, during the year 2024. The problem is rooted in the persistent desire in the assignment of responsibilities of the company, affecting the academic and personal life of the women. The objective of the investigation was to identify and analyze the differences in the implementation of domestic tasks between men and women, as well as the use of time allocated to these activities. The population protagonist of this study is made up of students of both sexes of the mentioned educational unit. A quantitative methodology was applied, using structured cues to collect data regarding participation in domestic tasks, the use of time and perceptions regarding gender roles. The data were analyzed statistically to identify patrons and trends in the distribution of responsibilities. The main hallmarks indicate that studying women take on the majority of household tasks, dedicating more hours to activities such as preparing food, caring for children and washing clothes. In contrast, men are mainly involved in the maintenance of their home and vehicles. Considering that both genders recognize the need for a more equitable distribution, cultural norms and stereotypes that perpetuate desire persist. These results highlight the need to promote responsibility in the workplace and implement policies that support women in their academic and personal development.Item Análisis de las estrategias de transversalización del enfoque de género en la gestión pública en el Gad parroquial de Turi, 2018(Universidad de Cuenca, 2019-11-27) Yunga Guamán, Juan Pablo; Gil Gesto, María IsabelThis research was carried out in the Autonomous Decentralized Government (GAD) Parish of Turi, belonging to the Canton Cuenca, is qualitative and was executed through the analysis of its Planning and Territorial Planning (PDOT) document, and based on interviews with public servants of the parish GAD for the 2014-2019 period and of the priority care groups (adults and older adults, boys, girls and adolescents, young women and men and the population of disadvantaged adult women) who were subject to intervention by said policies. The research findings allowed us to discover that although new forms of inclusion and participation have been implemented for the historically vulnerable population and that they have had a positive impact, this is not enough and therefore gender gaps and inequalities still persist.Item Análisis de los factores socioeconómicos y de género relacionados con el emprendimiento femenino en la Asociación de Productores Agroecológicos del Azuay (Apa Azuay). In contrast, men mainly engaged in productive activities that enabled greater economic stability.Item Análisis del conocimiento de los y las docentes sobre el curriculum oculto en la Unidad Educativa Agustín Cuesta Vintimilla durante el año lectivo 2021 - 2022(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-06-21) Herrera Baculima, Pedro Francisco; Solano Paucay, Vicente ManuelThis research was conducted at the Agustín Cuesta Vintimilla Educational Unit located in Narancay bajo, via Nero, half a block from the Panamerican Highway south in the parish of Baños in the canton of Cuenca in the province of Azuay, in order to know the level of knowledge about the hidden curriculum that the teachers of the middle school of the institution have, For this purpose, a methodology with a qualitative approach based on semi-structured interviews was carried out and a focus group was also applied, which made it possible to collect data to extract deeper knowledge of the subject and for all the above mentioned, a total of 7 teachers were involved, belonging to the sub-level of the middle elementary school. In the same way, it can be said that the level of knowledge that the middle school teachers of the institution have about the hidden curriculum and about gender issues is too low because many teachers do not know about the concept of gender and how to apply it to the teaching-learning processes that take place in their classes. In relation to the individual differences of the students, teachers try to attend to the realities, needs and interests of the students, although they recognize that it is quite difficult due to the administrative overload that they also have to carry out as teachers. Finally, with respect to the application of the gender approach in the teaching-learning processes, teachers understand that it is vitally important to carry out training, since this way they can become aware of the problem of the hidden curriculum in order to handle it with due care and thus improve their training as teachers and improve society in general.Item Análisis del rol del cuidado y su relación con la economía de las mujeres agricultoras de San Joaquín, periodo 2010-2020(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-12-09) Morocho Baculima, Dayanna Fernanda; Mendieta Orellana, Mónica ElisabethThe purpose of the research is to expose the advantages and disadvantages of women farmers in the San Joaquín parish when developing multiple tasks such as: domestic activities, family care, community, home providers. Año 2024(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-03-06) Prado Chacho, Dennis Steven; Mendieta Orellana, Mónica ElisabethThe research analyzed the triple role performed by rural women, heads of households, in the community of San Gabriel de Chaucha, Ecuador, during 2024. It explored how these women simultaneously manage productive, reproductive, and community responsibilities in a context of poverty and social exclusion, aiming to highlight their role and identify associated factors and consequences. A qualitative approach with a phenomenological design was adopted to capture the essence of the participants' lived experiences. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight women selected through purposive sampling, focusing on categories such as the manifestations of the triple role, perpetuating factors, and consequences. Hermeneutic analysis using Atlas.Ti software facilitated data coding and contextualization within the theoretical framework. The findings revealed that rural women face an unrecognized workload that significantly impacts their physical and mental well-being. Furthermore, gender inequalities perpetuate the undervaluation of their roles, restricting access to resources and opportunities. The study concludes that it is essential to implement public policies aimed at recognizing reproductive and community work and strengthening support networks and resources to achieve comprehensive empowerment for rural women.
