Item Evaluación del mantenimiento de la gestación en un sistema bovino lechero a pastoreo en la región andina del Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-01-05) Iglesias Garzón, Jorge Andrés; Guevara Viera, Raúl VictorinoThe maintenance of pregnancy in a dairy cattle system in the Andean region of Ecuador was analyzed. The systematized information of the reproductive veterinary events corresponding to pregnancy losses was used, systematized in the SG Livestock Software Version 23® of the Santa Catalina Dairy Unit of the National Institute of Agricultural Research, registered from 2010 to 2022. It was carried out a quantification through the use of actuarial life tables, numbering the pregnancies, losses of the PDG pregnancy, survival of the pregnancy and period of risk of PDG. As results, a total of 1194 pregnancies were obtained, of which there was a PDG of 16% (188 cases). The percentage of survival of the fetuses decreased as the pregnancy status of the cows progressed, reaching less than 85% survival in gestations greater than 260 days. A high risk of abortion was calculated for the gestation period between 43 and 120 days, as well as for the peripartum gestation period >260 days. These data can be used as a starting point to develop a period of epidemiological surveillance of pregnancy with a higher incidence of abortion, denoting the importance of the systematization of information and the use of livestock records. The data will be used to optimize and improve the profitability of the dairy farm, being able to establish plans that improve the conditions that guarantee the survival of the fetuses until their birth. Finally, it aims to study in the medium and short term the possible risk factors that affect the maintenance of pregnancy.Item Frecuencia de anticuerpos anti Neospora caninum en perros que conviven con bovinos de leche y carne(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-08-02) Hidalgo Núñez, Adriana Madelein; Romero Tigmasa, Wilson Fabricio; Maldonado Rivera, Jaime EduardoIn Ecuador, epidemiological studies have been carried out that demonstrate the presence of the disease in cattle, its association with abortion, the presence of compatible lesions and genetic material of the parasite in slaughterhouse fetuses, although the prevalence is variable and has been reported. about 23.5%. However, there was no information to know the frequency of tests against Neospora caninum in dogs, considering that this species is the definitive host of the parasite. This study aimed to determine the frequency of anti-Neospora caninum studies in serum samples from 124 dogs living with cattle, taken from 59 farms in the Azuay, Cañar, Manabí and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas provinces. Variables were considered; sample origin, age, dogs sex, size and type of cattle herd, to determine if these factors are associated with the presence of anti-Neospora caninum studies. Data collection was carried out in a registration sheet that includes: location, data of the animal as well as the owner. Presence of anti Neospora caninum studies was developed by competitive ELISA, a frequency of 18.5% of the dogs studied was found. Statistical association will be developed, with the type of cattle herd and with the geographical region, the disease being more frequent in dogs that live in the mountains and coexist with dairy cattle. No statistical association was established with the variables size of the livestock establishment, age and sex of the dogs.
