Emotional dependency (ED) and self-esteem are interrelated psychological constructs that significantly affect individuals' emotional well-being. ED is characterized by an excessive need for external validation, particularly in the context of affective relationships, while self-esteem reflects an individual's self-assessment. The primary objective of this study was to determine the relationship between emotional dependency towards a partner and self-esteem in adults attending the Psychological Support Center for Emotional Dependency in the city of Cuenca. Through a quantitative correlational approach, the study evaluated participants using a sociodemographic form, the Emotional Dependency Scale (EDS), and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). Results indicate that 52% of participants exhibit extreme levels of ED, while 56% have moderate self-esteem and 28% low self-esteem. Additionally, it was determined that there is no relationship between the study variables and the sociodemographic characteristics. The correlational analysis revealed a positive relationship between ED and self-esteem; however, the correlation is not statistically significant. In conclusion, users of the Psychological Support Center for Emotional Dependency exhibit patterns of extreme dependency and moderate self-esteem, regardless of their sociodemographic profile. Similarly, it cannot be confirmed that a reliable relationship exists between the variables.

Previous studies have shown a high prevalence of depression in people with substance use disorders, as well as the importance of resilience in the recovery process. Research on the interaction between depression, resilience and addictions in the Ecuadorian context is limited, which justifies the need for this study. The objective is to describe the levels of depression and resilience in adults hospitalized for addictions at the Azogues Specialized Treatment Center during 2023-2024. A quantitative approach was used, a descriptive cross-sectional non- experimental design, with a sample of 30 hospitalized men. The sociodemographic sheet, the Beck Depression Inventory-II and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale were applied. The results 50% presented a minimum level of depression, 23.3% mild level and 13.3% moderate level. The dimensions of resilience with the highest high scores were persistence/tenacity/self-efficacy with 83.3%, control under pressure with 76.7%, adaptability and support networks with 80%, control and purpose with 80%, and spirituality with 80%. %. Differences were found according to the type of substance and time of consumption. The legal substances group showed higher levels of minimal depression, while the illegal substances group presented the highest percentages of severe depression. Intermediate consumption (1-20 years) was associated with higher resilience scores. The findings suggest the need for comprehensive interventions that address addiction, strengthen resilience and promote psychological well-being and consider individual differences.

Funcionalidad familiar y consumo de alcohol en estudiantes universitarios
(2018) Muñoz Pauta, Marco Antonio; Santos Morocho, José Luis; Vega Crespo, Bernardo José
The present study is a transversal analysis, the objective was to determine the relationship between family functioning and alcohol consumption in a sample of 200 participants that included students of Dentistry, Nursing and Psychology. A probabilistic sampling with simple randomization was applied. The instruments used were the family evaluation test (APGAR), and the questionnaire to identify disorders due to alcohol consumption (AUDIT). The results show a significant negative relationship (p 0.211) between family functioning and alcohol consumption. Belonging to a dysfunctional family, it is a risk factor 1.21 times more likely to consume alcohol. Being part of a functional family is a protective factor for not consuming alcohol (95% CI 0.90-1.59). Regarding the variables, (33.5%) of those surveyed perceived family dysfunctions, and (48.5%) consumed alcohol within the dependent level. It is concluded that family functionality is important in order not to develop a risk behavior of alcohol consumption. Psychotherapeutic intervention is recommended to strengthen the family as a strategy to combat alcohol consumption in the university.

With the ongoing economic and political crisis in Venezuela, many families have been forced to migrate to other countries, and it is crucial to understand how these children navigate their new surroundings and relationships. The objective of this study was to describe the perception of Venezuelan immigrant children on the possible effects on their interpersonal relationships through a contextual analysis of the conditions in which they live and the perception of their interpersonal relationships. This study approached from a qualitative approach, non-experimental, phenomenological, and descriptive design through a semi-structured interview. The research shows that the insufficiency of public policies in response to extensive migration processes to Ecuador leaves unattended the guarantees of rights for migrant children who face difficulties in accessing services and experience obstacles in the school environment, such as bullying and xenophobia.

The results evidenced a significant correlation between positive resilience and affective social support (r = 0.318, p = 0.004), indicating that a higher level of affective support is associated with higher levels of positive resilience in students. This study concludes that there is a relationship between resilience and social support in law students, and underscores the importance of social support in strengthening positive resilience.
