Although there has been an increase in female participation in these areas in recent years, significant gaps persist that still hinder the access and permanence of many women in decision-making and political representation spaces. This research is focused on analyzing the Political Participation and Gender Focus of Cuenca Councilwomen in the 2019- 2023 term, identifying the obstacles and challenges they face when accessing these spaces, and their active commitment to improving the situation of the women they represent. The methodology applied in this research is qualitative with explanatory scope, based on the Latin American action-participation research design. The convenience sampling technique, a nonprobabilistic method, was applied. For this purpose, research techniques such as five life stories within politics and five in-depth interviews were conducted, providing various analysis themes such as active participation, political involvement and commitment, experiences within the political sphere, and the impact of female representation that allowed addressing the implication of female representation in politics. After a thorough analysis of the experiences recounted by the councilwomen, it was observed that they experienced political violence, and these acts were replicated by the media, with some even considering resigning from their positions. Time management also emerged as a challenge, as balancing political responsibilities with roles as mothers and caregivers proved difficult. In an attempt to be heard in a predominantly male environment, some councilwomen felt the need to adopt more masculinized attitudes. Despite these complications, their commitment to improving society and promoting women's rights remained steadfast, highlighting the resilience and determination of these women in the local political sphere.Item Análisis de los procesos de inmigración con perspectiva de género de familias indígenas del pueblo puruhá de la Parroquia Luis Cordero, en el Cantón Azogues, en el año 2023-2024(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-02-29) Plaza Salto, Vanessa de los Ángeles; Quishpi Betún, Thanny Gisella; Herrera Montero, Luis AlbertoThe present research entitled " Immigration Processes Analysis with a Gender Perspective of Indigenous Families of the Puruhá People of the Parish Luis Cordero in the Canton of Azogues Year 2023- 2024", has the general objective of making visible the immigration process with a gender perspective of indigenous families of the Puruhá people. It is necessary to know how schools are facing the arrival of students and with what approach or guidelines are they addressing the challenges that this poses for educational processes. Many of the altercations that are generated within this environment refer to the possibility of achieving an inclusive culture within schools, also demanding the formation of intercultural citizens capable of functioning in a global world. In this sense, inclusion is based on a perspective based on human rights in which everyone has access to education regardless of any consideration related to ethnicity, gender. In order to advance in the understanding of the way in which schooling processes and procedures are being carried out in various contexts, it is useful to know what type of mechanisms teachers develop around the incorporation of immigrant students, that is, what is the performance and the work that this attributes to the school in this context, as well as to identify what are the challenges that this event demands for the work carried out by the teacher, including the training needs to promote multicultural education approaches in educational establishments.Item Experiencias de mujeres yerbateras en prácticas ancestrales de la medicina en la Asociación Intercultural de Yachak Aiyapu Pumapungo, en el período 2023 - 2024(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-03-04) Galindo Pulla, Nicole Cecilia; Tixi Revelo, Katherine Mishell; Herrera Montero, Luis AlbertoHistorically, the dominant logics have delegitimized and devalued other types of knowledge that have not been produced by white, European, heteroxual, upper class men, which is why this research focuses on addressing how the work of women herbalists within the framework of recovery of the knowledge that was born in the South, are part of a resistance that fights to make visible and recognize the knowledge that has been transmitted through generations and that is part of the Latin American cultural identity. For this reason, the general objective of our study is to systematize the experiences of herbal women from the Intercultural Association of Yachak Aiyapu Pumapungo in ancestral medical practices. The research has a qualitative approach of descriptive scope since it seeks to interpret the experiences of herbal women from a critical position, the design is a combination of action research and phenomenology. We will work with two techniques: interviews with semi-structured questions and focus groups. The results aim to make visible how the field of ancestral medicine is also subject to following patriarchal mandates, which leads to women being subject to inequality and discrimination. But in addition to revealing the gender bias, we also want to show how herbal women are possessors of their own knowledge that, despite the processes of coloniality and globalization, their efforts are still valid and that they are also subjects of knowledge and agents of change.Item Globalization and heritage at risk: theories for its governance(CRC Press/Balkema, 2021) Herrera Montero, Luis Alberto; Amaya Ruiz, Jorge Alberto; Tenze Alicia, MargaritaThis paper offers a synthetic analysis of capitalism as a global system which engenders negative effects on cultural heritage. Accordingly, the first aim of the paper is to systematize a wide variety of information on heritage assets which are at risk. As a response to such jeopardizing circumstances for cultural heritage, a second goal of the paper is to suggest governance processes as valuable mechanisms for the protection, preservation and promotion of such assets. The research methodology is based on hermeneutics, an approach that enables the rigorous interpretative analysis of information regarding heritage. The text is organized in four parts: the introductory section discloses the problematic, justification and purposes of the study, and explains the conceptual approach to heritage; the second part presents the methodology that has been applied, and the third part exposes the research findings. Finally, the conclusions synthesize evidence on how capitalistic globalization clearly jeopardises cultural heritage.Item Inclusión de personas con discapacidad en medios radiales de Cuenca: historias de vida de Adrián Manzano y Edith Patiño(2018) Alvarado Tinoco, Dayanara Nicole; Martínez Sánchez, Laura Elizabeth; Herrera Montero, Luis AlbertoThe mass media have an important role, should contribute to the construction of a more balanced society, with equal opportunities. In these communication spaces, people with disabilities have been left behind in the field of communication, both in the workplace and in their programming. This demonstrates a minimum inclusion process, in violation of the rights of access and participation, which promotes invisibility and discrimination. For this reason, we set out to develop two life stories that help show the contribution of people with disabilities in the media, cooperating in improving their quality of life. The history of life allowed us to know, through personal experiences, the inclusive processes of Edith Patiño and Adrián Manzano in the radio media of Cuenca, confirming that people with disabilities are able to function in a self-sufficient manner in the media, becoming a reference of improvement for others. In addition, it should be noted that the biographies of these two characters have contributed to disability issues, as a right not only social, but also in the specificity of the profession of communication and journalism.Item Interculturalidad. Diálogos teórico prácticos para la gestión del cantón Cuenca – Ecuador(2017) Torres Orellana, Enma KamilaAlthough the issue of interculturality is a constitutional priority in Ecuador, in local planning instruments it goes inadvertent. This problem also characterizes the territory of Cuenca. In this perspective, interculturality does not entail greater significance in the 2011 and 2015 Territorial Organizational Planning. This devaluation behoves to a limited concept of culture, which reduces the term to meanings of tangible heritage. Therefore, the objective of text focuses on developingdialogues between practice and theory from decolonial, marxist, post-structural and feminist contributions, and since an attempt to formulate the intercultural theme as a public policy in the institutional management of the Cuenca's Autonomous Decentralized Government. The results show the lack of contextualization of this dimension in the curriculum, insufficient methodologies for its treatment, typified student attitudes of "very improvable" and "improvable" from an axiological perspective by not fully recognizing the ethnic and cultural rights of all citizens, particularly among first and second year students. Therefore, in light of these data it is necessary to activate a design and strategic redirection in the field of intercultural formationItem La espiritualidad como equilibrio socionatural(Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas CLACSO, Editorial Magisterio, 2021) Herrera Montero, Luis AlbertoItem La interculturalidad desde los planes del buen vivir(2019) Herrera Montero, Luis Alberto; Novillo Verdugo, Miguel Ángel; Castellano Gil, José Manuel; Vera Cabrera, Juan FernandoThis study establishes the productive correlation between the theoretical contributions on interculturality and the proposals that have been formulated in Ecuador’s development plans. The theoretical reflection was based on fundamental contributions, understood as decolonization processes to share power, in which new ethical agreements would characterize societies and cultures. The main objective of the study was to analyze the inclusion of the intercultural theme in the National Plans for Good Living (2009-2013) (2013-2017). The methodology used, in this process of reflection and analysis, was hermeneutic, understood as interpretation and understanding of texts. As results, a broad inclusion of interculturality is detected in the plans mentioned. The problem is projected, when the inhabitants must apply these plans in the social and cultural daily life, since it contemplates contents written in highly technical languages and sophisticated epistemologies, of difficult access for the majority of the Ecuadorian citizens and, even, for professionals.
