This paper responds to the lack of analysis of the vast majority of works of Ecuadorian composers. The piano works by Gerardo Guevara “Three Preludes” is no exception, as there has been analyzed and no presence within the Ecuadorian piano repertoire.
For this analysis has taken into account the historical, rhythmic, harmonic, melodic and conceptual aspects.
Guevara in his three preludes for piano (Recitative, Albazo, San Juanito) exhibits a thought evolved from the rhythmic cells of Ecuadorians genres. Use pentatonic scale with support in the quartal harmony, a language that we might call “Guevarian language” which, as he puts it, is no longer an exaggerated nationalism folk, but a universal nationalism.
