Propuesta de diseño interior en el área de terraza del hostal “Check In” a Rooftop-Restaurante “Fuego Morlaco” en la ciudad de Cuenca, Ecuador

Abstract

The objective of this degree project is to redesign the terrace of the Hostal Check In a Rooftop Restaurant, located in the historic center of the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. The proposal seeks to enhance the commercial and aesthetic value of this heritage building, given the growth of commercial activity in the historic center following the pandemic, which has positioned rooftops as the city's new attraction. As a result, these spaces have become dynamic places that offer different experiences, where, beyond taking advantage of the Cuenca landscape, the experience focuses on the user. However, this project seeks to be different and original by drawing inspiration from Cuenca's roots, hence the name “Fuego Morlaco” for the restaurant. It also seeks value in the traditional architectural features of the building, in contrast to the contemporary. The proposal is complemented by a typical gastronomic offering elevated to haute cuisine, strengthening the identity of the space. On the other hand, the building stands out for having the first electric elevator in the city of Cuenca, a historical element that is integrated as an attraction within the design. The development of the project included the analysis of similar references that served as a guide for the formal and functional conception of the proposal, as well as an exhaustive review of theoretical sources that support the design decisions.
