Abstract
The study shows how healers from the Peasant Union
of Azuay (UNASAY-E) in Ecuador, faced with the needs of
today's world, raise the need to continue training; and
they make known their vision of what knowledge they
require to care for the body, mind and spirit. The research
is ethnographic and uses tools such as semi-structured
interviews and focus groups. The results reveal that the
knowledge inherited from generation to generation is
in permanent territorial and collective construction. It
also explains which resources, natural medicines and
treatments are applied for healing. The investigation
concludes that ancestral medicine continues to be
devalued and folklorized, even though, on the one hand,
it is recognized in the national Constitution and, on the
other, it confers well-being to the social structure.
Resumen
El estudio muestra cómo sanadoras y sanadores de
la Unión Campesina del Azuay (UNASAY-E) en Ecuador,
frente a las necesidades del mundo actual, plantean la
necesidad de seguirse capacitando, y dan a conocer su
visión de cuáles son los conocimientos que requieren para
el cuidado del cuerpo, la mente y espíritu. La investigación
es de corte etnográfico y utiliza herramientas como la entrevista semiestructurada y los grupos focales. Los
resultados revelan que los conocimientos heredados
de generación en generación están en permanente
construcción territorial y colectiva. Expone, también,
cuáles son los recursos, las medicinas naturales y los
tratamientos aplicados para la sanación. La investigación
concluye que la medicina ancestral continúa siendo
desvalorizada y folclorizada, pese a que, por un lado, está
reconocida en la Constitución nacional y, por otro, confiere
bienestar al tejido social.
