Publication Cognitive psychology in traffic safety(2023) Tigre Atiencia, Wilson Xavier; Ordoñez Alberca, Danny Sebastian; Michay Valarezo, Wendy Lizbeth; Campos Castro, Camila Ines; Reyes Guaranda, Mauricio Esteban; Moreno Polo, Miguel Francisco; Avila Martinez, Maria Cristina; Montesdeoca Andrade, Mateo SebastianImproving traffic safety requires a better knowledge of cognitive Science, especially of the cognitive Ergonomics of road infrastructure and the vehicle–human interface. Driving is a complex task that involves different cognitive modules that have to coordinate simultaneously. Perception, Language, Memory and Mental Representation, Learning, Emotion and Motivation, Attention, Executive Functions, Thinking and Reasoning or Motor Programming should be better understood in order to adapt traffic infrastructure and interfaces to the human information processing. In this work, we review the importance of these cognitive modes in traffic safety. A holistic exam of all cognitive processes related to driving and road safety is recommended to be taken by all governments and in all countries. In this sense, systematic research in drivers’ evaluation and its link to automobile accidents should be implemented. Driver assistance systems can assist to drivers but they cannot substitute the human processing. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.Publication Percepciones de estudiantes universitarios sobre evaluación y acreditación: un estudio en Enfermería, Derecho y Odontología en la Universidad de Cuenca, Ecuador(2023) Reyes Guaranda, Mauricio Esteban; Cabrera Ortiz, Freddy PatricioThe evaluation and accreditation of university careers is a reality that has expanded, in recent years, in Latin America to pursue educational quality. Within this framework, this article seeks to verify the perception of Nursing, Law and Dentistry students at the University of Cuenca, Ecuador, regarding evaluation and accreditation, in terms of the knowledge they possess, and the effects that its application has had on academic and administrative environments. A quantitative approach with a relational design was taken, through the application of the Student Questionnaire to Evaluate the Impact of Quality Assurance Processes in Higher Education to 381 students belonging to the institution. It is evident that they have acceptable knowledge, and in administrative and academic terms they perceive a notable improvement in institutional infrastructure, although very few in bureaucratic procedures.Publication Trastorno de la personalidad antisocial y responsabilidad legal: Una revisión sistematizada de la evidencia(2024) Orellana Moscoso, Abrahan Felipe; Reyes Guaranda, Mauricio EstebanThis article presents a systematic review on the legal responsibility of individuals diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder from2018 to2024. In recent years, a debate has been maintained on the legal treatment of psychiatric disorders, including personality disorders, due to the complexity in managing their imputability in the legal system. The PRISMA model criteria were used to review and select studies relevant to this objective in academic databases. The results show that there is evidence of alterations at the neuroanatomical level that mayaffect the volitional capacity of people with APD, resultingin poor impulse control. However, some authors agree that, despite these alterations, individuals with this diagnosis are fully aware of their actions and their consequences when committing a crime, so this diagnosis would not necessarily constitute a reason for mitigation oftheir imputability. This articlehighlights the importance of continuing to develop theory and evaluation methods to establish adequate legal treatment.Publication Arte y psicología(2018) Wilchez, José L.; Avila Martinez, Maria Cristina; Moreno Polo, Miguel Francisco; Reyes Guaranda, Mauricio EstebanThis work is a link between Art and Psychology within Cognitive Science. If it is not understood how the subject processes information with respect to Art, it is impossible to appreciate in a holistic way all the dimensions of the human being; including its artistic-expressive facet. The expression of Art is an energetic investment in which the creator of a work of Art shapes his vision of the world. This ability is developed over time (not possessed since our evolutionary beginnings) and is the product of cognitive processes such as memory, representation, problem solving and decision making. Each person is a world and extracts the essence of his environment in an idiosyncratic way, hence each person has a preference for a type of art that goes from the most figurative to the most abstract. To understand Art is to understand an intimate part of Psychology.Publication Mente y materia: Principios filosóficos para una psicología científica(2025) Orellana Moscoso, Abrahan Felipe; Reyes Guaranda, Mauricio EstebanPublication Violencia de género y violencia de pareja en Ecuador: Una revisión sistemática(2025) Miguel Francisco Moreno-Polo; Reyes Guaranda, Mauricio Esteban; Briones Arias, Christhye Ionneender-based violence (hereinafter GBV) is a relevant topic at both the normative and cultural levels, with clear repercussions within the practice of social and legal sciences. In Ecuador, figures on gender-based violence against women show that it is related to both intimate partner violence and domestic violence. Given this, the objective of this research was to gather relevant scientific information on GBV in Ecuador over the last 8 years. The databases used were ProQuest, WebofScience, Redalyc, and Dialnet. The PRISMA methodology was used for the review, considering the following search terms: "gender-based violence," "intimate partner violence," "partner violence," "Ecuadorian," and "Ecuador." The inclusion criteria were: scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals, scientific articles written in English and Spanish. Scientific articles were located in the Web of Science, ProQuest, Dialnet, and Redalyc databases. Findings revealed that, despite existing regulations in Ecuador, their implementation is insufficient due to an underlying structural problem stemming from cultural situations related to machismo. The findings highlight inadequate implementation of public policies aimed at reducing and eliminating gender-based violence in Ecuador.Publication Responsabilidad legal en el trastorno de la personalidad antisocial(2024) Reyes Guaranda, Mauricio Esteban; Orellana Moscoso, Abrahan FelipeThis work provides a review of the literature on the legal liability of individuals diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder (APD). In recent years, the legal treatment of psychiatric disorders, including personality disorders, has been the subject of debate due to the complexities associated with accountability in legal contexts. To carry out the review and selection of relevant studies, the PRISMA model criteria were applied to various academic databases. The findings indicate the existence of neuroanatomical alterations that may compromise the volitional capacity of individuals with APD, manifesting in poor impulse control. However, several authors agree that, despite these alterations, these individuals remain fully aware of their actions and their possible consequences when committing a crime, so that the APD diagnosis would not, by itself, imply a justification for reducing their criminal liability. The need to continue advancing in theoretical and methodological development to define an appropriate legal approach in these cases is stressed.Publication Propuesta de metodologías activas para la inclusión étnica en segundo nivel de Bachillerato a través de la fotografía de fiestas populares(2025) Reyes Guaranda, Mauricio Esteban; Orellana Moscoso, Abrahan Felipe; Guartatanga Coronel, Jorge LuisThe objective of this article is to design an instructive methodological class for teachers, using photographic narratives of festive contexts as a tool to foster inclu-sive identity processes. The research problem centers on the need to implement innovative methodologies that enhance the sense of belonging in diverse educational settings. The methodolog y employed three methods for data analysis: conceptual analysis, which identified the meanings associated with festivities; phenomenological analysis, which explored partici-pants’ experiences with cultural traditions, and narrative analysis, which structured the visual and textual stories collected. From the impact analysis of the class, it is concluded that photographic narrative is an effective resource for strengthening the sense of belonging and promoting educational inclusion, according to students’ perceptions.
