Cráneo cervico mandibular complex has different degrees of mobility because it is placed above the upper and lower cervical spine which has independent movements one from another. This complex should work in harmony or “orthostatic stability” in order to avoid stressful movements which may hurt ligaments, muscles, and capsule from temporomandibular joint. There is the hypothesis that a wrong position of the mentioned complex can produce changes in dental occlusion, and also temporomandibular disorders, because of simultaneous activation of masticatory muscles, the consequence is changes in mandible, and hyoid bone. Recent evidence refuses that hypothesis because the human body has propioceptors to maintain an orthostatic stability from the complex's asymmetries, and avoid further damage.

Pruebas biométricas básicas en la práctica odontológica. Valores alterados
(Universidad de Cuenca, 2016) Lafebre Carrasco, Milton Fabricio; Reinoso Carrasco, Julieta Del Carmen; Espinoza Calle, Glenda Iralda; Serrano Delgado, Clara Yamile
The current challenge to the dentist in oral health care is to treat patients with complex medical problems that may have diseases such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, heart diseases or pa- tients who take drugs that alter blood clotting. The aim oí this literatura review is to provide basic tools forthe interpretation of the valúes reported in the laboratory tests that are used in dentistry; which correspond to figurative elements that are found in blood (white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets), the coagulation factors and their possible alterations in patients with blood dys- crasias; for which a systematic review has been carried out (scoping review), using biliographic databases Pubmed, Scopus and Virtual Health Library. Detailed information has been taken re- garding the normal valúes of the tests mentioned, however in the literatura it has been reported that most of the patients are subjected to unnecessary preoperative studies that increase costs and morbidity of the procedure, therefore it is important to consider that normal valúes of any la- boratory test are included in two standard deviations. Therefore 2,5 % of healthy individuáis will have a borderline valué and 2,5 % will have a supranormal valué.

The interest both ¡n the patient and the professional in finding edentulous spaces is to seek a fixed rehabilitation that can return, besides the aesthetic, ¡ts occlusal functionality, which can offer a better quality of life to the patient. The purpose of this study is to know the prosthetic status of patients with fixed prostheses treated at the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Cuenca be- tween 2013 and 2015. We used a universe of 293 patients who were treated in the period 2013 - 2015, a total of 149 patients, 55 men and 94 women were reviewed. The parameters that were considered to know the state ofthe prosthesis were: Type of marginal misfit, ceramic chipping and periodontal health through clinical examination.

The present study supports the anatomical determination of the mandibular canal in adults of the Surgery Clinic ofthe Faculty of Dentistry ofthe University of Cuenca, this study has big importan- ce considering the location of the Canal in the performance of some surgical procedures such as collocation of dental ¡mplants, osteotomies, osteogenic distraction and the reduction of fractures and complicated extractions avoiding injuries to the mandibular nerve. The objective of the present study is to determine the location of the mandibular canal in relation to structures of importance in adults of the surgery clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Univer- sity of Cuenca. The study’s sample was 50 adults of the Clinical Surgery of University of Cuenca. Patients were ¡n age of 18 to 35 years who meet the inclusión criteria. The study used the Cone Beam system. In the results, in the man the dental apex closest to the mandibular duct was of the molar 4.8, as in the woman, with respect to the posterior edge of the branch in men was a distance of 18,196 mm and in the woman of 16,177 mm. In the literatura is well documented the injury to the inferior dental nerve by the proximity of the ápices of the third molars with this nerve, in this study is coincided with this, since the ápices of the third molars are the closest to the inferior dental nerve.

The purpose of this study was to determine in vitro the apical leakage endodontic sealers using two cement sealers, one based on calcium hydroxide (Sealapex) and another ba- sed MTA (Fillapex) in 60 extracted single-rooted mandibular premolars.

Prevalencia de recesión gingival y factores asociados en estudiantes de odontología. Cuenca - Ecuador
(Universidad de Cuenca, 2016) Pesantez Chacón, David Patricio; Brito Chicaiza, Cristhian David; Carvajal Endara, Andrea Soledad
Gingival recession is the apical displacement of the marginal gingiva, its origin is mul- tifactorial and its presence can trigger several periodontal complications. Previous re- ports have shown that the prevalence of gingival recession fluctuates between 13.7% and 86.9%. The objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence of gingival recession and its associated risk factors among students of the Faculty of Dentistry ofthe University of Cuenca, Ecuador. In addition, we classified recessions according to Miller and described their characteristics.
