Item 15 años desde la inclusión de Cuenca en la Lista de Patrimonio Mundial(Universidad de Cuenca, 2015-01) Koupermann, JonathanThere are fifteen years since the declaration and it is time to open a dialogue active and proactive among all who work or we link with the heritage as citizens and public and private institutions. It is very favorable that Cuenca would be alive as it is: a heritage city of elements, spaces and cultural experiences that not only respond to important needs of its citizens, but which reveal its soul and spirit.Item A la sombra de las ciudades en flor(Universidad de Cuenca, 2017-07) Moreno Pérez, José Ramón; Iglesia Salgado de la, FélixThe contemporary city is informed by a habitability divided between the modes imposed by the devices of "biopolitical democracy" and the shared elaborations of "terrible communities". This produces a shear in its configuration, which install behaviors that try to articulate this unbearable present emptiness in our lives. In four movements, we want to report of “common places, weapon, temporalities, dynamizations…” that treat of that a world appears. We are in the presence of a repeated transit along the construction of modern urbanity, which now has definitely reached -in the complete realization of its original model- become a great "interior". As celebrates that moment of joy and amazement the title of the article, the "prisoner nomads" would now be engaged in the construction of their narrative and arguments.Item A preliminary response from the Faculty of Psychology students of the University of Cuenca to the modified EFL teaching approach(Universidad de Cuenca, 2017) Berna, Marcelo; Feyen, JanEnglish teachers in Ecuadorian universities, like teachers in many non-native English-speaking countries, face the challenge of dealing with uninterested, unmotivated students, even when intermediate proficiency of English is a basic requirement for graduation. As from the end of 2014, the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Cuenca modified the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction at the three proficiency levels of English learning, by linking the training in reading to the reading of major related material and stimulating the students to practice actively the four English language skills outside the classroom using website and video hosting sites. At the end of 2016, the students’ impressions of being exposed to the modified way of student-centered instruction were assessed using a questionnaire. A total of 106 students completed online the 10-question survey. Results showed the enthusiasm of the students towards the modified more dynamic and interactive mode of EFL instruction; appreciated that more autonomy and responsibility were given to the students, and suggested that focus on grammar should not be neglected. An important side effect of the approach was the indirect harnessing of listening, writing, reading and speaking skills as well as skills in the reading and analysis of thematic research papers; considered an important benefit for the thesis project.Item A tentative analysis of the causal stress factors of graduate students of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico(Universidad de Cuenca, 2016-12) Ledesma, Yolanda E.; Cobos, Angel R.Stress reflects the body’s response to different demands, and it is generally accepted that good and bad experiences can cause stress. There is positive (eustress) and negative stress (distress), and both affect people. The factors causing stress range from physiological (e.g., fear of danger) too emotional (e.g., worry about money or family), and vary from person to person. The research question of this study was if the causes of stress are different between Latin American and American students at the Latin American Studies Program of the University of New Mexico (UNM) in Albuquerque, the United States. The article depicts how local and foreign graduate students perceive their stress. Findings revealed that the top four common stressors for college students are academic responsibility, time management, financial situation, and personal relationships. Six qualitative methods, such as observation, individual interviews, focus groups, collective analysis, social mapping, and visual analysis, were used to collect insight in the phenomenon of stress. The collected information was codified, organized, classified and consolidated using the Atlas.ti database, and analyzed using the triangulation technique. Results show that stress perception is significantly influenced by the cultural differences between the students.Item Abuso de alcohol e intervención mediante habilidades sociales en estudiantes del colegio “Ezequiel Cárdenas Espinoza” Azogues-Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Ciencias Médicas, 2015-12) Romero Romero, María de Lourdes; Lorenzo Ruiz, AlexisObjective: To identify cases of alcohol abuse and develop a prevention strategy through the strengthening of social skills from a cognitive-behavioral approach. Material and Methods: A study with a quantitative approach and a descriptive and intervention design was developed. About 232 students were enrolled in Ezequiel Cardenas Espinoza High School in Azogues, who agreed to participate by informed consent, and who had no physical or mental illness. The Self Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ) and CAPs were applied to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes and practices. A psychotherapeutic program with cognitive behavioral approach also was applied to enhance the social skills of selected students in 16 sessions with specific subtopics through participatory and motivational workshops. Results: About 232 students had an average age of 14.9 ± 2.07 years. The 47% male and 53% female; according to the SRQ the 23.3% (n = 54) of students consumed alcohol with a pattern that suggests problematic consumption, men consume more than women in relation 3 to 1. With the prevention strategy focused on cognitive-behavioral approach, significant statistical changes were obtained in knowledge and attitudes (p <0.05), but not in changing practices (p> 0.05). Conclusion: The prevalence of alcohol abuse in the students from Ezequiel Cardenas HighSchool is higher than the reported in other studies. The Intervention with cognitive behavioral approach by strengthening social skills produced an improvement in knowledge and attitudes.Item Accesibilidad a la información y la inclusión social de personas con discapacidad visual(Universidad de Cuenca, 2016-11-16) Martínez Bonilla, Carlos; Silva Silva, Ricardo; Naranjo Gamboa, ByronTechnological advances and the evolution of the media, especially the Internet, facilitates the transfer of messages to and between people, in particular between people with visual disabilities. Those culminating a career obtain an academic degree which is a testament to their academic training; although in some cases this degree is sought for vanity. Human beings are built in time and one of the purposes of universities is to contribute to this process. In accordance with the way how they fulfill these functions, the universities achieve in communities different levels of prestige, this is subject to its seriousness and responsibility. To establish this level there are accreditation processes that depend on the qualities of its graduates and the successes in research. Universities must have internal mechanisms to improve the performance of their duties, but there are also external institutions that make it possible to find out these levels and to compare them. The external accreditation can be performed with different methods and visions, which gives rise to different points of view based on how, under what referents and who carries out these efforts.Item Actitudes de los adolescentes escolarizados de Cuenca hacia la diversidad sexual(Universidad de Cuenca, 2011-07) Pinos Vélez, Verónica Patricia; Pinos Abad, Guido MarceloThe overall objective of the survey was to assess the attitude of school age adoloscents regarding LGBT (Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transsexuals) and the factors controlling the attitude. A survey was applied to 1130 high school students and 31 teachers to investigate the relationship between the attitudes regarding the LGBT minority group and the socio-demographic, family, community and personal factors of the sampled population. For the exploration of the relationship between the variables use was made of the chi-square statistics. Analysis of the survey data revealed that the majority of the adolescents had liberal homophobia attitudes. The factors controlling this attitude by school age adolescents regarding LGBT are: high school type, age, gender, level of religiosity, education level of parents, level of family communication, degree of prejudiced believes, to know a person who is LGBT, and sexual orientation. In summary, the adolescents from Cuenca have homophobic attitudes, which justifies the development of educational programs with the challenging objective of changing the attitudes towards LGBT.Item Actitudes docentes hacia la educación inclusiva en Cuenca(2016) Clavijo Castillo, Ruth Germania; López Calle, Claudio Hernán; Cedillo Quizhpe, Isabel Cristina; Mora Oleas, Janeth Catalina; Ortiz Ochoa, William AlfredoItem Actitudes hacia la química en estudiantes universitarios conforme avanzan en la carrera(Universidad de Cuenca, 2015-04-01) Silvina Reyes, María; Porro, Silvia; Pirovani, María ElidaThe aim of this work was to estimate the change of the student attitudes towards chemistry on biology careers (“Profesorado en Biología and Licenciatura en Biodiversidad”) at Universidad Nacional del Litoral, Santa Fe, Argentina. The student attitudes were studied during three stages: at the beginning (1st year), during (3rd year) and at the end (5th year) of their careers. The instrument chose to assess the attitudes of the students was a questionnaire according to Likert scale. All the students who attended each of the analyzed years (45, 30 and 20 students respectively) were surveyed. The obtained results indicate statistically significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) between attitudes towards chemistry presented by students of 3rd and 5th with respect to 1st year. This research showed that there is a positive trend in attitudes toward chemistry as students progress through university education. It could be inferred that it is possible to improve the attitude of the early college years, whether methodologies of teaching and evaluation, both in the last years of high school, and in the first years of college, are reviewed, to improve the attitude towards the chemistry of the students of biological careers from the beginning.Item Actividad antimicrobiana de las pastas antibióticas a través de los tejidos dentales(Universidad de Cuenca, 2018) Rodas Rodríguez, Claudia Judith; Mendoza Trejo, Roberto Carlos; García González, Rafael; Yamamoto Nagano, Jesús Adolfo; Cárdenas Vidal, Fernanda de LourdesThe purpose of this study was to evaluate through an experimental study in vitro the antimicrobial activity of antibiotic paste, in this case CTZ modified with Clindamycin. Materials and methods. The study was conducted with premolars and third molars divided in three groups, the first group were filled with zinc oxide and eugenol, for the second group the CTZ paste for sealing was used, and the third group CTZ paste was used but with prior instrumentation of teeth. Results. In the first group no inhibition zone was observed. For the second and third group halo of inhibition existed on the periphery of the teeth. Conclusions. The use of CTZ paste has a degree of permeability and bacterial inhibition. The use of zinc oxide and eugenol did not show permeability and bacterial inhibition.Item La actividad turística desde la perspectiva económica(Universidad de Cuenca, 2014-10) Cruz Barba, EvangelinaItem Actualidad del patrimonio en Cuba, reflexiones sobre desarrollo sostenible y conservación preventiva(Universidad de Cuenca, 2018-01) Bello Caballero, Luis; Muñoz Castillo, María; Soto Suárez, Milene; Morcate Labrada, FloraRecent changes in Cuba’s economic and social policies foresee implications in local heritage sites. Current challenges determine the need to examine opportunities for sustainable development within the new socioeconomic context. In this regard, scholars analyze the positive and negative effects of today’s circumstances. The analyses exposed in this paper start by noting the links between culture, sustainable development, and preventive conservation (first section). The latest as a new paradigm within the heritage field that articulates the social, economic, and environment pillars. The second section addresses the main issues of Cuban heritage sites; as well as the challenges that both, integral development plans and management plans still have to cope with. Considering the topicality of Cuba’s heritage, the third section exposes possible alternatives that can contribute to sustainable development by referring to actions undertaken in the Academia.Item Adendum(Universidad de Cuenca, 2009) Espinosa Cordero, SimónItem Adenocarcinoma pleomórfico de células giganates de vías biliares(osteoclastoma like)(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Ciencias Médicas, 2015-06) Quezada Morales, Manuel Emilio; Alvarado Corral, Raúl Francisco; Jara Sánchez, Laura FabiolaOsteoclast-type giant cells (CGTO) of the pancreas are not frequent originally described by Rosaien 1968, characterized by osteoclasts that are giant cells identical mononuclear stromal cells in bone tumors observed. Since then, there are few reports of tumors containing giant cells in other anatomic locations. The CGTO can be distinguished from the pleomorphic type giant cells (CGTP), due to the lack of an associated marked nuclear pleomorphism. Often a pancreatic carcinoma histologically recognizable CGTO accompanies, leading to a bad result. CGTO pure forms have a better prognosis because it takes a long time to develop metastases, but this form is very rare, with few cases reported in the English literature. Most times the benign diagnosis of these tumors based on immunohistochemistry evaluation is discussed. This case is a female patient 56 years old with picture characterized by cramping pain that improves with antispasmodics, several months of evolution, with periods of remission and exacerbation. A physical exam features: light skin and mucous subictérico dye, abdominal level: diffusely painful abdomen without viseromegalias or palpable massesItem Adherencia a la terapéutica farmacológica en pacientes hipertensos del Hospital "José Carrasco Arteaga" del IESS. Cuenca 2007(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Ciencias Médicas, 2010-04) Martínez Reyes, Fray CleitonObjective. To establish the prevalence of no adherence to the pharmacologic therapeutic and to relate it to the variables: Sex, age, educational level, social security type, knowledge of the disease, time of treatment, pharmacologic treatment, dose, synchrony in the consumption of medications, collateral effects, access to medications, doctor - patient information and support to the fulfillment. Methods and materials. Cross sectional study; Population: The hypertensive patients attended during July 2007; Randomized Sample 93 patients; A later visit was carried out at home and a variables form was applied; Beside the medication count was made. Fulfillers were considered those persons who consumed between 80 and 100% of the medications, taken at the same hour the day previous and the visit day. Non Fulfillers consumed less of the 80% and over the 100% or those who had between 80 and 100% fulfillment, but their schedule varied between a day and another one. Results. The prevalence was 79,57%. They were representative: Age less than 66 years old, PR 1.21; A synchronic consumption of medications, PR 1.17; No access to medications PR 1.17; multi-drug treatment PR 1.13; Being active, voluntary, peasant, craft affiliate to the Social Security PR 1.04; Collateral effects of the medications PR 1.04. Conclusion. The prevalence of no adherence to the pharmacologic treatment is high. There was no statistically significant association in relation to the studied factors.
