In this study, the researchers aim to identify the situations that teachers face related to classroom management routines and procedures. In addition, it endeavors to recognize the presence or absence of the application of routines and procedures by teachers and the knowledge and practice of them by their students. Significant results are presented through the use of three instruments, observation checklists, questionnaires and interviews that allow to triangulate the gathered information. The results indicate the lack and differences between procedures and routines in both educational environments. This differences could be seen in two aspects – control of behavior and learning activities. In the public institution, there is more teacher control of students’ behavior than in the private one. Besides, the teacher in the private institution applies a variety of activities during her classes, something that the public teacher did not do most of the time. The authors present some recommendations addressed to English teachers in both institutions, promoting possible solutions to the issues related to classroom management which may emerge during the teaching and learning process.Item A comparative analysis of learninig a foreign language in multimedia courses with regular EFL courses. These spaces are organized within the original movie screen, video or any audiovisual production, ie, they share a similar cinematic space. This organization is fully associated to an earlier postproduction or editing process. Since its introduction, the split-screen was used to visually associate people in a phone call, this would become its most frequent application, however, over the years, other uses of the resource have been generated, which with its particular narrative and graphic aesthetic property has renewed the cinematic language. STEREO is a short film written and directed by Leonardo Espinoza and Sebastián Sánchez, its main visual attraction is established with the full implementation of the split-screen technique, this is complemented with the basis of the story, an allegory that corresponds to the matches. The protagonists are unaware of their physical contiguity, but the viewer is the unique witness of their latent emotional correlation.Item A handbook of phrases containing the most common ‘cuencanismos’ to help foreigners in Cuenca(2016) Pintado Pacurucu, Byron René; Torres Arévalo, Jorge Adrián; León Vélez, María VerónicaFor some years, the city of Cuenca has been going through a significant migration process. Many American citizens have been travelling to our city to reside in it. This process has brought a big problem for these new residents, as they must learn a second language to fit in. Formal learning is useful, but it is often incomplete since formal language differs a lot from the informal language that isspoken on the streets of our city. For this reason, the project “A Handbook of Phrases Containing the Most Common ‘Cuencanismos’ to Help Foreigners” aims to create, as the name says, a handbook with the most common cuencanismos in use, to help foreigners understand our unique speech. To compile the most common cuencanismos, a survey was administered to some local residents of Cuenca. Then, through a selection process, the most common cuencanismoswere compiled and used to design a proficiency test regarding these idioms, which was applied to two different groups of foreigners, some of Spanish teaching schools and others from various parts of the city. The purpose of the test was to measure foreigners’ knowledge about cuencanismos. The results were as expected, and after a process of analysis and interpretation, the conclusion is that a handbook with the most common cuencanismos might help our new residents to understand our lexicon more accurately and adapt to our city in a better way.Item A New approach for the teaching of english through songs(1993) Campoverde M., Angel F.; Argudo Vicuña, RafaelItem A proposal to teach and reinforce english vocabulary through engaging activities suitable for all the multiple intelligences in the seventh grade of the Julio María Matovelle elementary school(2012) Méndez López, Magdalena Elizabeth; Youman, KatherineItem A qualitative analysis of the EFL teachers´perceptions on their teaching strategies in public high schools in Cuenca(2015) Ordóñez Yunga, Paola Irene; Calle Calle, Ana MaríaA previous exploratorystudy, carried out by Calle et al.,sponsored by the ResearchDirectory of the University ofCuenca (DIUC), regarding teachers’strategies was carried out in Cuenca in 2012.Fifty-four (54)public English teachers were interviewed; however, only some interviews were analyzed. The objective of this paper is to determine the teachers’ perceptions regarding their teaching strategies. Therefore, five (5) interviews, which contained the most relevant information, were chosen for the qualitative analysis. The results showed that the majority of the participants prefer applying traditional strategies in class since they argue traditional strategies are the most effective ones to learn the target language. Also, teachers apply eclectic methods in which there is the combination between communicative and traditional strategies. However, some communicative strategies are not used appropriately. The results of this study will help further research on this topicsince they can shed light on training processes. After all, teachers coulduse the strategies appropriately and implement innovative ones. Furthermore, the results will contribute to pedagogical implications, which can be useful for professors of the English Language Major of the University of Cuenca.Item A selection of american folktales to teach english through interactive activities for teenagers(2011) Dávila Toro, Omar; Llanos Campoverde, Johanna; Ochoa Maldonado, GennerItem A Short account of Willa Cather´s life and works(1999) Acevedo, Doris; Youman, KatherineItem A short study of the life and importance of Thomas Paine, famous american personage in Noth American history(1999) Cambisaca Bacuilima., Sara Luzmila; Youman, Katherine
