Therefore, the purpose of this study is to design a wireframe and storyboard of a mobile application prototype as an aid to practice and improve English pronunciation. In order to fulfill this goal, the most common pronunciation errors were elicited from fourth semester students coursing Phonetics through a diagnostic pronunciation test, which demonstrated that participants had difficulties while pronouncing certain English vowel and consonant sounds. In addition, two surveys were administered in order to determine the participants’ internet accessibility, their methods for practicing English sounds, and their positive or negative observations on the prototype. Survey results indicate that the vast majority of participants have smartphones with internet access, almost always use the internet to practice their pronunciation on English sounds, and are willing to use the proposed mobile application as an aid to study Phonetics. The most common pronunciation errors listed in this thesis may serve as future reference for EFL teachers to plan their classes precisely and address these problems from the start.Item Anne Bradstreet in her time(2008) Jiménez de Peralta, Susana; Cabrera Bueno, Angélica; Youman, KatherineItem Application of the suggestopedia method in the 5° of basic education in the San Pedro Nolasco primary school(2011) Rivera, María Teresa; Verdesoto, Paulina; Astudillo Neira, CatalinaItem Autonomy-supportive teaching for developing intrinsic motivation in english students of second of bachillerato at UESMA(2018) Merchán García, Verónica Elizabeth; Fajardo Dack, Tammy MercedesThis research paper analyzes the necessity of applying a new teaching style with English students of Second of Bachillerato at Unidad Educativa Salesiana María Auxiliadora (UESMA) in order to develop and increase their learning intrinsic motivation. One of the attempts is to demonstrate the presence of low levels of intrinsic motivation and perceived autonomy in students when learning a second language, in this case English. Significant results were achieved using a combination of a set of methods that allowed to triangulate the gathered information. The results showed lack of intrinsic motivation and perceived autonomy in an important number of students. A guideline for promoting the adoption of an autonomy-supportive teaching style for teachers is proposed as a possible solution.Item Categorization and teaching idiomatic expressions through mnemonics(2019-02-28) Farfán Mora, Manuel Francisco; Chica Cárdenas, Yola IndauraThe main aim of the following graduation project is to create an illustrative booklet with the most common English idiomatic expressions with their exact equivalent in Spanish. The booklet is intended to help English learners understand, use, and apply idioms in an appropriate context since their use will make learners sound more natural, in other words, more like a native speaker. The idioms used for the creation of the booklet were obtained from a survey that was administered to a group of expats living in Cuenca. To carry out this survey, the researcher worked with a check list, categorization chart, and an open question, resulting in a sizeable list of idioms. After analyzing the results, it was possible for the researcher to determinate the most common English idioms which were later categorized according to their form and meaning based on their equivalents in Spanish. Finally, visual imagery, namely, illustrations that belong to mnemonics take an important role within the booklet, which will be used with the help of teachers at all timesItem Chronological development and classifications of irregular verbs in english(1982) Argudo Vicuña, Rafael; Estes, RobertItem Constructivist theory and its application to the teaching of grammar in the ESL classroom: teaching the possessive case of nouns, prepositions, adverbs of frequency, first and second conditional, will present, would, past(2008) Inga, Paola; Tapia, Soledad; Argudo Vicuña, RafaelItem Develonping the speaking skills trough multiple intellingence-based activities with fourth graders at verbo elementary school(2013) Farfán Mora, Juana Marcela; Youman Henley, Thomas EldenThe theory of Multiple Intelligences proposed by Howard Gardner in 1983 suggests that each person has more than one intelligence. Some intelligences are more developed than others. Therefore, every student has strengths and weaknesses. Teachers have to take advantage of their students’ strengths and design appropriate materials to motivate pupils to learn. In this research paper, the use of the theory of the Multiple Intelligences as another method to teach speaking is analyzed. The main purpose of this work is to demonstrate that the Multiple Intelligence theory could be an excellent tool to be used in the EFL classroom. A set of materials and activities based on the MI theory were created and applied during two weeks with EFL fourth-grade students from “Verbo” elementary school, in Cuenca, Ecuador. The sample of this study involves 16 students. An interview, questionnaire, pretest, and a posttest were used in order to collect data which served as the basis for this study. The results of this investigation show that the application of activities based on the MI theory helped these students with their speaking skills. It also shows that some students were more willing to participate than before.Item Enjoy your learning through communicative grammar practice(2005) Paida Velecela, Martha Clotilde; Paida Velecela, Zoila Azucena; Astudillo Neira, CatalinaItem Flipped classroom resources in the EFL classroom improves the learning process(2016) Mendieta Sinche, Poleth Alejandra; Jara Villacreces, Jean PaulEnglish is one of the most important languages in the world, and therefore there is a high demand for English Language Learning. The results of this study showed that the children in the experimental FC enhanced writing skills, improved their attention to class activities, and had a higher motivation to learn.
