    Impacto del programa educativo en el conocimiento del protocolo de atención prehospitalaria aplicado por socorristas en trauma. Machala 2011 – 2012

    Rescuers of trauma in the pre-hospital areas in the city of Machala, among them there is a lack of professionals with tertiary academic education, they are mostly graduates with basic first aid courses. Objective: To determine the impact of an educational program on the knowledge level of trauma care protocols, used by rescuers working in pre-hospital care in the city of Machala Method: We conducted a quasi-experimental study with two groups: study group (n = 46) and control group (n = 45). Sample obtained by non-randomly convenience. Rescuers were assessed at baseline by a previously established test, the study group was implemented an educational program, the control group was not intervened. Two months after the program impact was evaluated. Results: The educational program improves overall knowledge 43% in the study group. The impact of the program: 56% in respiratory, circulatory 67.9%; and 19.2% in neurological. But decreases in airway10.9% and 7.6% in the exposure of the victim. The relative risk after the program applying is 4.45 and is required to implement the educational program to act on two participants to improve one (NNT -2.4). Conclusion: The educational program is useful for improving knowledge on pre-hospital care in trauma, without succeeding that participating-rescuers reach the expected level due to the heterogeneity of their academic background
