Item Lesionología por accidentes de tránsito en infantes y adolescentes atendidos en el Centro de Investigaciones de Ciencias Forenses. Cuenca, periodo 2016 -2020.(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-12-05) Guzmán Palaguachi, José Vicente; Maldonado Córdova, Andrés PaulBackground: Traffic accidents (TA) are the main cause of morbidity, mortality and disability in children and adolescents, constituting a public health problem. Objective: To determine the lesionology due to traffic accidents in infants and adolescents treated at the Forensic Science Research Center. Basin, period 2016 -2020. Methodology: a descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out by obtaining data from the forensic médico-legal autopsy reports of infants and adolescents who died in AT, at the Forensic Science Research Center of the city of Cuenca, using a previously prepared form. Results: the prevalence of mortality due to AT in infants and adolescents was 25.8%; the types of accidents were 27.5% crashes and 26.6% hit-and-runs; the most common injury was closed fracture in 39.4% and hemorrhage in 36.7%; the most frequent location of the injury was the head in 67% and the chest in 15.6%; the severity of the injury was presented in 98.2% as incompatible with life. Conclusions: the highest frequency of deaths occurred in adolescents, as a result of shocks, run overs, rollovers and crashes; being the undetermined cause the most common, with a high percentage of AT at night and with a similar distribution on ordinary days and weekends. The most frequent injuries were closed fractures and hemorrhages, generally located in the head and chest, being injuries, due to their severity, incompatible with life.
