Item Propuesta de tablero aislante con fibras naturales de totora y cabuya(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-03-20) Tasambay Paucar, Elizabeth Alexandra; Hidalgo Cordero, Juan FernandoIn this work, a comprehensive study of totora and cabuya fibers is undertaken, covering aspects ranging from their taxonomy to their production process, insulating properties, and their applicability in architecture. Additionally, three models of insulating panels are proposed, distributed across thirteen test samples, with the purpose of examining their thermal behavior. Characterization tests were conducted, including thermal conductivity, moisture absorption, and density tests. The determination of the thermal conductivity coefficient (k) was carried out using two different methodologies. In the first one, an experimental approach was employed following the methodology of the PASCO TD-8561 devices. In contrast, the second methodology was based on the method for thermal conduction in composite walls in steady state, using the HT11C device. Both procedures are based on Fourier's law as a fundamental physical principle. The results obtained reveal that the thirteen test samples exhibit an average thermal conductivity ranging between 0.0371 and 0.078 W/m°K. It is noteworthy that samples 1A, 2A, 3A, and 6A recorded values below 0.050 W/m°K, comparable to the insulators commonly used to mitigate heat flow in constructions. This finding suggests that materials derived from totora and cabuya can not only compete with conventional products but also have a lower environmental impact in terms of CO2 emissions. Thus, the extraction and production process significantly contribute to environmental sustainability.
