Patuca-Morona Santiago, 2014(2014) Jara Guazhco, Carmen Luisa; Lozada Fajardo, Silvia Lorena; Peñaranda Banegas, Janneth Maricela; Angulo Rosero, Aydee Narcisa; Verdugo Sánchez, Adriana ElizabethBackground: Snakebites are a public health problem, especially in tropical and subtropical regions, it occurs due because there is a high quantity of hidden snakes in the bushes; and when the farmers go to their daily work are prone to a bite . Objective: The purpose of this investigation is to identify the knowledge, attitudes and practices on snake bite in Patuca - Morona Santiago, 2014. Methodology: This is a descriptive study that seeks to identify and describe the knowledge, attitudes and practices of snake bite in Patuca - Morona Santiago, 2014. The population for this research was 1726 inhabitants and a sample was obtained through by simple random method. The final sample was constituted by 314 people. The technique used was a direct observation, interview and survey. The instrument was a form that was elaborated by the authors its pretend to collect knowledge, attitudes and practices they have about the snake bite. The data was processed in IBM SPSS version 19, Excel, Word and presented in tables and graphs after statistical analysis programs. Results: According to this study we have that the 88.85% of the investigated population knows the snake "X" Bothrops. Distinguish a poisonous snake by the red color; the 91.72% ; identify poisonous snake bite by the tread of the fangs 69.75%; by pain the 35.35% and edema pain 23.25%, handle it with the use of avocado pit one drink mixed with 42.36%; after reported the case to the health personnel for proper treatment Conclusions: This research work demonstrates that the most popular snake in the area is the snake Bothrops "X", it is considered poisonous, causing the largest number of snakebites, a poisonous snake is identified by the red color, head shape padlock or arrow, by their small and bulging eyes, fangs and needle-shaped; people use home remedies to treat a bite, as well as hydrocarbons, tourniquet, suction and elevation of the affected limb.
