Item Informe sobre posibles acciones tendientes a la acreditación internacional de la Facultad de Ingeniería(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Butler, FrankItem Sistemas de agua potable y aguas residuales de la ciudad de Cuenca(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Avila, RosaThis paper deals with the purification system that has the city of Cuenca and its surroundings, processes that have been described and shown the reliability and quality that are made. There is also an explanation of their treatment of wastewater from the city of Cuenca, a brief description of the various devices and machines that handle the process.Item Uso de desarenadores en abastecimiento de agua potable(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Albuja, Cristóbal; Pinos, Cristian; Samaniego, JohnThe grit chamber are structures located below a water catchment and allow sand to remove particles such as clay, fine gravel and organic material of any size contained in the water entering a surface source, is an almost obligatory and the main objective is protect the pipeline, equipment and accessories installed downstream of the recruitment, avoiding problems of erosion and / or accumulation of materials that can cause wear on the system. Sedimentation of suspended particles is due to the action of gravity and is facilitated by decreasing the horizontal velocity in the grit chamber.Item Huella hídrica (‘Water Footprint’)(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Araneda, Ronnie; Alvarez, Juan; Argudo, GeovannyThe term "Water Footprint", makes reference to the total volume of freshwater required in the production of different goods and services that a human being, a society or a country consume. When is about calculating the water footprint is necessary to considerate the several components of it such as blue, green and gray water footprint, as well as regard the virtual water of each product. However, a general method to calculate the water footprint has not been established, it is be because of the different characteristics and factors that are unique in each region. The meaning of water footprint was introduced in order to manage in a better way the freshwater resource on earth.Item Desarrollo, ética y tecnología(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Pauta, GuillerminaItem Contaminación difusa producida por actividades agrícolas(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Avila, Juan; Reinoso, Paola; Zambrano, SandraWe can realize that today with the world’s growing population, human needs increase on a large scale, among these needs there is one very important for the development of the population such as feeding. This huge demand for food has led to develop techniques and technologies to improve the quality and quantity of the food production. However, the development of these new techniques and technologies has not only generated great benefits to mankind but has also caused a great increase in the pollution problem, causing degradation in the environment and in the public health. In agriculture, to increase and accelerate the production, have been made chemicals such as pesticides and fertilizers, many of these with great implications for water supplies that deteriorate ecosystems and change the water quality for human use. In some countries there is a control law, though in most countries there are not any regulations that make a control of the discharge limits, and it should be noted that agriculture is one of the few activities in which chemicals are deliberately discharged into the environment to destroying many form of life.Item Evolución de las bases de datos(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Zalamea, OlgaItem Herramienta metodológica para alcanzar el aprendizaje significativo(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Ochoa, DannyThis article presents a brief discussion about the importance of engineering laboratory practice, and how these contribute to the achievement of meaningful learning by students. It also makes recommendations for the development of practice guidelines and the role it should play both students and teachers to achieve the desired goals.Item Calidad del agua y contaminantes en el río Tarqui(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Beltrán, Alberto; Mendieta, Paul; Vanegas, JuanThis research shows us specifically the contaminants in the Tarqui river located on the outskirts of Cuenca city. The parameters used to determine the water quality of the river were: DBO5 , fecal coliforms, water quality (Physical-Chemical), and the biotic index. The samples were taken at 8 different stations (1 station at the Portete River, 1 station at the Irquis River, 5 stations at the Tarqui River, and 1 station at the Cumbe River). What refers to DBO5 the samples are into the range of clean water; about the fecal coliforms were obtained bad results because of the intensive livestock in the area; the quality index that represents the condition throughout the river has label of good finally the biotic index indicates that the river´s healtn has a regular condition. These data reflects stability in the Tarqui River´s health except in the Cumbe River´s area where peaks of contamination appear.Item Estudio del concepto del parámetro de estabilidad de shields como un método para el diseño de canales erosionables(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Córdova Mora, Mario Andrés; Vallejo Llerena, Carolina ElizabethThis study discusses and analyzes the concept of the stability parameter in order to set the calculation expressions that allow the design of erodible channels. With the conceptual exposure of these processes, we have included an analysis of new mathematical relationships for the incipient motion curve and for determining the stability parameter. This paper is a contribution to the dissemination of knowledge and indicates a guide to the application of the method in the context of the course in Hydraulic. Design which is taught at the Career of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cuenca.Item Medición de distancias a través de visión estereoscópica(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Romero Córdoba, FabiánA system that replaces the sense of sight is something that many engineers may need in industry for purposes of providing solutions to complex processes. As a particular case present a webcam based system for measurement of distances which can be useful to predict movements of objects in the production process.Item Una primera aproximación a la implementación de un clúster para la ejecución de un modelo de predicción climática(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Gualán, Roland Marcelo; Vázquez, Angel Oswaldo; Vega, Oswaldo FranciscoItem Los cuatro pilares de la educación(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Delors, JauqesItem Estudio de selección de una arquitectura orientada a servicios (SOA), para ser implementada en el programa: manejo del agua y el suelo (PROMAS)(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Veintimilla, JaimeItem Enfoque básico del saneamiento ambiental(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Pacheco, Freddy; Once, David; Verdugo, JessicaToday, the theme of environmental quality and health of human beings is at risk due to environmental pollution, and lack of sanitation, it exists more in underdeveloped countries, existing problems caused by unhealthy lack of treatment in water, solid waste and excreta. This often happens due to lack of knowledge of people, how to treat the waste, so that this document will show what it’s about environmental health, so that citizens have an understanding on this issue and we note that these problems can be solved and we can prevent epidemics and major damage to humanity.Item Informática urbana(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Espinoza Veintimilla, AngelItem Sistema de tratamiento de aguas residuales de Ucubamba(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Ganzhi Fajardo, Fabián Patricio; Muñoz Gárate, Cristian; Rodríguez Pacheco, DanielThe wastewater treatment plant in Cuenca is located in the northeast of the city, in the area called Ucubamba. The main objectives aimed by the treatment plant can be summarized in the following ones: intercepting and conducting the water which formerly flowed to the rivers that run through the city and returning clean water to the environment. The ETAPA wastewater treatment plant is constituted by a preliminary treatment structure consisting of: settling tank, bypass, floodgates, mechanical screens, and grit chambers. After preliminary treatment of wastewater, the biological treatment stage starts, and it consists of three phases: aerated lagoons, facultative lagoons, and maturation lagoons. After the water is in suitable condition, it is moved by an unblock system which takes treated wastewater to the Cuenca River; this water can be safely reused in agriculture, hydropower, recreation, etc.Item Breves referentes de la historia universitaria(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Merchán, HernandoItem El cobro del peaje(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Peña Toral, Rómulo RolandoItem Arsénico en el agua(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-06) Cabrera, María Alezandra; Pinos, David; Pulla, María FernandaArsenic (As) is a metalloid found naturally in air, soil and water. Have toxicological importance due to its environmental impact even in little concentrations. It is released by human activities and naturally by the earth’s crust. People can be exposed to arsenic mainly through food and water, especially in certain areas where groundwater comes into contact with arsenic containing minerals.
