Item Consecuencias de la gentrificación en la conservación del patrimonio cultural material e inmaterial. Caso estudio: barrio El Vado(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-01-09) Arrunátegui Cassaró, Mariette Alexandra; Valladarez Vázquez, Karla Elizabeth; Sigüencia Ávila, María EugeniaGentrification is a process by which a change is generated about the urban space as a result of the displacement of the original population of a generally central or neighborhood sector, being replaced by another with a higher purchasing power. The conservation of the heritage of several historic cities around the world and in Ecuador, as is the case of the city of Cuenca, especially in its Historic Center, go through this phenomenon. In this city, this process is crearly evident in the El Vado neighborhood since it has certain cultural values due to the recognition that it has achieved as a popularly historic place. Among the main consequences that emerge from this phenomenon are: the displacement of the original population of the neighborhood by commercial actors, the change from housing to commercial use, the loss of neighborhood life and its own traditions, problems of in security, among others. These, cause an alteration on the cultural heritage. This thesis exposes the various concepts of the term gentrification, studies the phenomenon in certain Latin American countries and analyzes the changes caused by the main gentrifying agents in the El Vado neighborhood, with which recommendations are generated for possible actions that involve different groups of people directly or indirectly related to the use and management of cultural heritage.Item Construcción de espacios modernos en Quito y la comunidad salesiana equipamiento educativo y barrios obreros (1885-1940)(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-06-23) Ochoa Guevara, María Eugenia; Miranda Vanegas, Juan José; Sigüencia Ávila, María Eugenia; Kennedy Troya, María AlexandraIn the middle of the 19th century, and in the midst of a confrontation between the Holy See and the liberal governments of Europe and Latin America, new religious congregations arrived in Ecuador. One of the most important of the time was the Salesians, pioneers in the technical teaching of crafts. Although some research on Salesian settlements and facilities has been carried out, there are no studies that emphasize their impact on the urban changes produced in the places where they were located. The purpose of this work is to demonstrate the influ- ence of the Salesian community, its educational and social assistance facilities, in the processes of urban transformation and the formation of working class neighborhoods in Quito in the period between 1885 and 1940. For this purpose, a historical-morphological study is conducted, including the investigation of historical sources and cartographic documents, as well as the reconstruction of the urban development process of the Salesian settlements within the city. At the same time, urban transformations are related to the background of political, urban and social processes. Thus, it is evident that the Salesian congregation influenced the implementation of services, improvement of roads, provision of equipment, maintenance and restoration of pre-existing buildings, generation of urban territories of identity, and changes in land use for productive activities, as well as the consolidation of popular working class neighborhoods. These results suggest that the implementation of modern facilities and the consequent development of working class neighborhoods in Ecuador were framed within the strategies of the Catholic Church to face the potential loss of political, social and economic power in the face of the liberal ideologies that were gaining ground in the early 20th century.Item El uso de memes como método de apoyo a la enseñanza en la cátedra de Teoría-Historia en la Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo de la Universidad de Cuenca(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-03-26) Suárez Enríquez, César Augusto; Auquilla Maldonado, Emmanuel Santiago; Sigüencia Ávila, María EugeniaAmong the challenges that education faces in the current context, one of them is adapting to the rapid social changes driven by the influence of new technologies. Within this reality, and under the inexorable influence of social media, less pragmatic courss such as Theory-History are affected due to the volume of information they must convey. Allong with a low overall interest in the subject, there arises a necessity to employ didactic resources to support teaching efforts. One element that might align best in this new educational reality are memes, initially understood as units of information transmission, now evolved into the commonly known humorous and satirical internet images. Understanding this ambivalence of the meme as a tool to support the transmission of academic information through humor, this research introduces the concept of the “Trojan Horse” effect. This study inquires into the versatility of memes as a teaching support tool for the Theory-History 3 course in the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of Cuenca and their potential effect on students. The proposed methodology establishes guidelines for the implementation of memes in classes and the measurement of their influence, both academically and in students’ perceptions of the course.Item Juegos serios para la difusión del patrimonio en Cuenca: sistematización de información y factibilidad(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-11-14) Carrasco Manosalvas, Doménica Vanessa; Montenegro Delgado, María Claudia; Sigüencia Ávila, María EugeniaHeritage in Latin America has received worldwide recognition due to its cultural, architectural, and natural wealth. However, the dissemination of this heritage in Latin America has been limited due to the lack of resources and access to information. In this context, Serious Games (SG) represent a key tool to disseminate heritage, as they are attractive and encourage learning. Although there are few case studies in Latin America, efforts have been made to implement dissemination strategies using SG and other ludic activities. SG are defined as games with an explicit educational purpose since they have the capacity to educate and entertain at the same time. The present research consists of a Systematic Review (SR) of SG for heritage dissemination in Latin America that has identified 14 application cases, including location-based games, augmented reality and virtual worlds. Through its study, 20 analysis variables have been identified, such as: the technology used for the development of such SG, the subject matter addressed, the cost of each SG, etc. The identification of these variables has made it possible to highlight characteristics that demonstrate the effectiveness of SG as a tool for teaching and disseminating heritage in the region. In this sense, these variables are used for the elaboration of surveys applied to teachers and students of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, to determine the feasibility, advantages and disadvantages resulting from the use of SG for the dissemination of Cultural Heritage in the local context.Item Propuesta de conservación integral de una vivienda patrimonial subutilizada y de un espacio adyacente: Caso Casa Ávila Tapia, Cuenca-Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-04-25) Novillo Espinales, Arianna Carolina; Tello Tapia, Esthela María; Sigüencia Ávila, María EugeniaThe abandonment and underutilization of spaces and buildings is an increasingly common process in cities worldwide, especially within historic centers. As a result of several factors, gentrification stands out in particular, where previously affordable spaces for most of the population become destined for inhabitants with higher economic assets. In Cuenca, Ecuador, this phenomenon has been more marked in the last three decades due to the massive migration of the population to other cities and abroad due to the economic crisis. This work aims to highlight one of the neighborhoods of the Historical Center of Cuenca where fewer interventions have been carried out in its heritage buildings, the María Auxiliadora neighborhood, since most of these are homes or minor businesses of families of the middle class. Under a comprehensive conservation project of a VAR B category heritage building and a lot adjacent to this building, it seeks to establish multipurpose spaces that enhance the interaction of community members, serving as a meeting and commerce space. Thus, the project will allow both residents and visitors to learn about the history of the neighborhood, returning to the city the traditions that make the María Auxiliadora neighborhood a particular place, such as the weaving of toquilla straw and local community cinema.Item Propuesta de prototipo de videojuego como herramienta de difusión de patrimonio. Caso de estudio: Casa de las Posadas(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-02-08) Montero Andrade, Matías Ismael; Sigüencia Ávila, María EugeniaBased on the systematic review of Serious Games for heritage dissemination in Cuenca (Carrasco D. & Montenegro M., 2023), this work proposes the execution of the first phase of a practical case, aiming to disseminate heritage using playful digital technologies (video game design), through its application in the Casa de las Posadas, a setting for the implementation of tools typical of a Serious Game. Thus, the overall project is contemplated in three phases: 1. Design and prototyping, 2. Game development, and 3. Dissemination and analysis of results. The scope of this work includes the completion of the first phase, which has a mixed-purpose approach; a theoretical section with previous studies, local history, methodologies, and reference analysis; and a practical design of a prototype in Unreal Engine. Additionally, each step and research carried out will be recorded, with the aim of generating interest in the creation of similar projects, and above all to ensure the continuity of phases 2 and 3 in future works.
