In the educational field, reading and writing is vital when assessing the efficiency of learning. The present project aims to determine the progress of academic reading and writing skills among students of the Pedagogy of Physical Activity and Sport career at the University of Cuenca, compared to their counterparts who completed their studies in 2016. Approximately 50 students participated in the study, who attended the seventh cycle of the Pedagogy of Physical Activity and Sport career, and who were developing the Curricular Integration Units I and II, in the period March-August 2025. The research is descriptive with a quantitative design to collect and analyze statistical data, structured surveys and standardized tests of reading comprehension and writing skills were used to collect the information. The surveys and standardized tests were applied in 4 weeks, to classify these data, comparative graphs were used to visualize the differences and similarities in reading and writing levels between the two cohorts studied. The results do not show significant advances in the development of academic literacy skills between 2016 and 2025, despite the adjustments in the curricular mesh. Challenges persist, such as the lack of reading habits, difficulties in writing and the need for greater teacher support.

(Universidad de Cuenca, 2021-08-10) Carrasco Paguay, Ariolfo; Guarquila Méndez, Hugo Adrián; Barreto Andrade, Jorge Antonio
This research has an analytical, correlational, and transversal approach, cataloged in this way, since an association among variables is sought. This investigation used two techniques: the body mass index and the HERZCO method, both facilitated the collection of information. The first technique allowed us to know the body mass of the selected students, whereas the second one provided information about the foot types of the participants through the analysis of the FOTOPODOGRAMA. The population of this study consisted of 270 teenagers from “Víctor Gerardo Aguilar” Educational Institution, with ages ranging from 12 to 14 years old. From this group, 34 students participated in this investigation: 13 boys and 21 girls, aged between 12 years 0 months and 14 years 9 months. To carry out the statistical analysis the corresponding register of the height, weight, and footprint was made. The statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS Statistics software, version 20; meanwhile, for the plantar footprint the KINOVEA software was used. An inverse relationship was revealed in both feet, which indicates that the higher the value of a person’s BMI (Body Mass Index) is, the lower the value of the Hernández Corvo index will be. There was a greater existence of flat feet in the overweight and obesity group, finding a predominance of flat feet in the left foot of the participants

Biomecánica marcha atlética. Análisis presiones plantares durante su desarrollo, revisión actualizada
(2016) Barreto Andrade, Jorge Antonio; Villarroya Aparicio, Adoración; Contreras Calle, Wilson Teodoro; Brito Vasquez, Vicente Enrique; Loaiza Dávila, Lenin Esteban
Race walking is intended to move the body as fast as possible while maintaining similar to those of the normal gait characteristics due to the requirements and restrictions of the regulations. This, together with the search for speed, makes the gait pattern, seen externally, appears uncomfortable, forced and unnatural. Hence, it is known the bad support made by marchers and frequent injuries suffered in the feet, and according to several authors, the distribution of the forces of each segment of the foot and the floor influences disorders thereof. At work eight marchers participated (4 men and 4 women) with a mean age of 21.63 years (± 4.24), with the purpose of analyzing the plantar support during the race walking. To register pressures portable system for static and dynamic analysis of foot support, PDM 240. The pressures were recorded during normal march and race-walking in 20m sections and valuesof the 7 central cycles were averaged. During normal march, the pressure peaks are higher than in subjects not marchers, shifting pressure towards the outer zone, suggesting that this activity has also modified its normal way of walking. In race walking, there are significantly higher peak pressure during normal driving, especially in the hind foot and forefoot smaller, more displacement of these to external radios, 4th and 5th metatarsal.

Biomechanics of the athletic walk. Kinematic analysis of its development and comparison with normal walk
(2017) Barreto Andrade, Jorge Antonio; Villarroya Aparicio, Adoración; Calero Morales, Santiago
Introduction: The purpose of race-walk is to move the body at the highest possible speed, retaining characteristics similar to those of normal gait due to requirements of the regulation. This, together with the pursuit of speed, makes the running pattern seem uncomfortable, forced and unnatural. Objective: to analyze joint mobility of the upper and lower extremities, inclinations and rotations of scapular and pelvic girdles, the displacement of the gravity center, and prone-supination of the hindfoot in the displacement of the walk race and the normal one. Methods: Participants were 8 marchers (4 men and 4 women) with a mean age of 21.63 years (± 4.24). The ORTOBIO 3D analysis system was used, studying the variables mentioned in three attempts, averaging three cycles. Results: The duration of athletic walking cycle is lower than that of normal walk, mainly due to shorter duration of the support phase. Likewise, the articular movements, inclinations and rotations are smaller, which means that the vertical displacement of gravity center (GC) is less pronounced, the length of stride and cadence being greater, contributing to the speed increase. Conclusions: the article shows six general conclusions that specify characteristics of movement in athletic walk compared to normal walk, updating descriptive and correlational analyzes in the international literature.

In the teaching process, especially during formative stages, it is crucial to employ methods that ensure effective learning. The objective of this study is to determine the efficiency of applying traditional judo teaching methodologies compared to the biomechanical model-based method and the ABC of Judo, in students enrolled in the course “Combat Sports: Judo”, as part of the Physical Activity and Sports Pedagogy program at the University of Cuenca. The study involved 30 students from the Combat Sports: Judo course during the academic period September 2024 - February 2025. Participants were randomly selected and divided into two groups of 15 students, experimental and control, respectively. The sample consisted of 18 men and 12 women. The experimental group conducted their practices in the morning, while the control group practiced in the afternoon. Three weekly sessions were held over a span of three months. The study employed a quasi-experimental cross-sectional design, with teaching methodology, technical efficiency, and gender as the variables under examination. The results showed that there is no significant difference in the application of teaching methods between the groups (p=0.58). However, when analyzing by gender, it was evident that the experimental group had a significant difference compared to the control group in the female group (p=0.007). It was concluded that the methodology of similar biomechanical models and the ABC approach has a positive impact on women's technical performance, while no notable variations were observed in men.

(2018) Talavera Morales, Alvaro David; Ortega Sisa, Erick Adonnis; Romero Frómeta, Edgardo; Chicaiza Peneida, Luis Enrique; Peña Fernández, Juan Miguel; Barreto Andrade, Jorge Antonio
Introduction: Leisure and family relationships are two importance variables in university student normal development; its correlation could indicate some work strategies in the health field. Objective: To relate leisure and family relationships in two independent samples. Methods: The sample selected was 40 students from the Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas ESPE (ESPE) and 35 students from the Universidad Central del Ecuador (UCE). Two internationally validated questionnaires were applied to establish the relevant correlations. Results: Descriptive aspects of each independent group studied are detailed. The correlation of leisure between the independent groups determined significant differences (p = 0.000) in favor of ESPE students (53.53), while the family relationships did not determine significant differences (p = 0.810) between independent groups. The interdependencies established with the Spearman test did not show conclusive results when relating leisure and family relationships in the students of the ESPE (bilateral significance: r = 0.038, correlation coefficient:-0.329), said correlation being low. In the UCE case, the correlation between leisure and family relationships did not determine a significant difference (r = 0.330). Conclusions: There is no convincing relationship between the amount of leisure and the family relationships quality of the student's research, recommending the inclusion of other related variables for future research. © 2018, Editorial Ciencias Medicas. (2016) Barreto Andrade, Jorge Antonio; Contreras Calle, Wilson Teodoro; Icaza Samaniego, Valeria Leonor
The movement is inherent in human beings, and in the infant stage, expressed mainly in the game in all its manifestations, considering that man is moving even before birth, in the womb. Thus, several authors argue the importance of giving priority attention to movement in the early childhood education, in which the child will be experimenting and experiencing through your body what happens around them. So, the more rich and varied are the spaces and learning materials, the richer will be the experience of the child, contributing significantly to their motor development and laying the foundations for the motor, which, help to strengthen the other capabilities personality of the infant. The objective of this paper is to summarize the different theories about the importance of human movement in the child's development.

(2015) Ordóñez Quito, Karina Pilar; Salazar Llivisaca, David Alejandro; Barreto Andrade, Jorge Antonio
The psychomotor is a fundamental process in the development of the mind and the body, in coordination with the muscular and the emotional aspects; which can be evidenced in various motor activities. Swimming, to be one of these activities, involves a complex procedure in the development, adaptation and improvement of skills and motor abilities aside from being an activity that helps improve motor skills in a harmonious way. The purpose of this research was to test the effectiveness of the aquatics program, implemented for improving psychomotor development by addressing the human being as a holistic resort. In other words, by considering the human being from his or her various dimensions. In the study, 14 boys and 8 girls between 7 and 11 years old took part of this process. They are studying in the Victor Gerardo Aguilar High school, in Cuenca. Thus, the tests which were applied in the assessment were from Litwin and Fernandez about Motor Assessment, Socio-emotional Evaluation and Childhood Intelligence; the same assessments which were applied before, during, and after the program. The results were analyzed statistically by determining the average and its percentages, in which it showed a significant improvement on the levels of the psychomotor development.

(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-11-24) Bermeo Sandoval, Angélica Lisbeth; Calle Lalangui, Andrea Estefanía; Barreto Andrade, Jorge Antonio
The present investigation entitled Implementation of a playful program for the development of motor coordination in physical education classes in children from 6 to 10 years old, is framed in the approach because it allows finding solutions to different problems through experimentation and evaluation; In this sense, the type of research is field with a quasi- experimental design. The general objective of the research is to implement a playful program for the improvement of motor coordination during Physical Education classes. With this, it is sought to know if through different exercise dynamics it is possible to improve the motor coordination of children from 6 to 10 years. It is important to mention that different authors have acquired for the construction of the playful program, which support the importance and characteristics of good motor development in childhood. As is the case of the position of Franco and Ayala (2011) that motor, skills are not only to function in the world, but also to become and understand the subjects that surround them with an objective purpose. Within the theoretical framework, the figure of physical education as a subject is also appreciated. The population of this research had made up of 150 children and the sample had made up of 66 children who will been divided by gender. The 3JS motor coordination test was used, which has as its purpose the evaluation of the level of motor coordination of boys and girls from 6 to 11 years old, it consists of 7 tasks that must be carried out consecutively and without rest. The results of the 3JS motor coordination test. Both in boys and girls, in the pre and post of the instrument; in the jumping exercise, it will acquire an average of 3.06 in the pretest and an average of 3.36 in the post test, being together with test 2 the best averages obtained. Which places both applications in the category of "Moderately accomplished". This result is repeated in other exercises, reaching the conclusion that the application of the playful program for the improvement of motor coordination was effective and may have better results if its duration were longer.
