Estrategias de afrontamiento en pacientes drogodependientes en proceso de rehabilitación

The growing rate of drug use in Ecuador has become a public health problem. Currently, state and municipal programs are being carried out in the country in order to establish more centers which will provide an adequate treatment in this population. The present study was developed with a quantitative approach, with a non - experimental design of descriptive cross - sectional type. Coping strategies and self-efficacy were analyzed in drug-dependent patients in the process of rehabilitation of the "Esperanza Project" center. These variables were related to age and number of relapses in users' consumption. The instruments which were applied were the "Coping Modes" scale of Lazarus and Folkman, as well as the scale of "Generalized self-efficacy". It was concluded that the strategies that are mostly used by the users/patients of the center were: the strategy of self-control, followed by the strategy of escape and avoidance. As for self-efficacy, it is concluded that users with more relapses in consumption tend to decrease their level of self-efficacy.
