Item Análisis de cargabilidad de transformadores de distribución de la Empresa Eléctrica Centro Sur CA y su impacto técnico y económico(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-09-23) Sánchez Vásquez, Jorge Isaac; Ulloa Rodas, José Ignacio; Albornoz Vintimilla, Claudio EstebanIn the distribution of electric power, transformers are essential, since they allow the transfer of energy from medium to low voltage, adjusting to the needs of end users. Empresa Eléctrica Regional CENTROSUR faces the challenge of ensuring the efficiency and reliability of its distribution transformers, both technically and economically. This degree work performs a detailed analysis of the loadability and efficiency of this equipment in CENTROSUR, covering technical, operational and economic aspects, such as oversizing and associated losses. Since energy demand and installed capacity do not always grow at the same rate, it is crucial to perform a thorough evaluation to optimize transformer sizing. The research is organized in chapters that explain from the operation of transformers and their components, to a comparative analysis of sizing methodologies used by other distribution companies in the country. It also includes an analysis of loss costs under different scenarios of the utilization factor in the distribution system, considering two specific cases of transformers, implementing measurement curves and overload criteria established by the ANSI/IEEE C57.91-1981 standards and the Colombian Technical Guide GTC 50. Item Análisis del impacto en los transformadores de distribución MT/BT y su red, asociada con la implementación total de las cocinas a inducción en el sector residencial(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-09-24) Lima Cabrera, Dorian Jeovanny; Romero Encalada, Carlos Arturo; Albornoz Vintimilla, Claudio EstebanThe adoption of induction stoves has been promoted in recent years as a key strategy for energy transition in the residential sector, aiming to reduce dependence on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and encourage efficient electricity use. However, the widespread implementation of these technologies poses a significant challenge to the electrical distribution infrastructure, particularly concerning the operational capacity of medium and low voltage (MV/LV) transformers and distribution lines. This research project aims to analyze the technical and energy impact of the massive implementation of induction stoves on the electrical network of Empresa Eléctrica Centro Sur C.A. (EERCS). The study focuses on three residential areas with different socioeconomic characteristics, evaluating the performance of distribution transformers and their ability to withstand the increased energy demand. The methodology combines historical electricity consumption data analysis, field surveys, and future scenario simulations to identify potential overloads and propose technical solutions to improve grid stability and efficiency. The findings provide valuable insights into the current state of the electrical infrastructure and its limitations in coping with demand growth. Additionally, recommendations are presented to optimize transformer sizing and strengthen the distribution network, ensuring system sustainability and power supply quality. This study aims to serve as a reference for future network planning and expansion strategies, enabling an effective energy transition without compromising the operational integrity of the electrical system.Item Análisis técnico y económico para la utilización de conductores semiaislados en redes aéreas de media tensión en los sistemas de distribución(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-03-09) Aucapiña Espinosa, Nicolás Andrés; Zhindón Guzmán, Romel Sebastián; Albornoz Vintimilla, Claudio EstebanThe entities in charge of carrying out the construction, maintenance and operation of the electrical distribution systems are the distribution companies and in the provinces of Azuay, Cañar and Morona Santiago, the entity in charge of supplying electricity to the different consumers is the Empresa Eléctrica Regional Centrosur ( E.E.R.C.S.). The E.E.R.C.S builds and designs the distribution networks through aerial, mixed and underground systems. Each one of these systems presents advantages and disadvantages, being a disadvantage of the aerial systems their low reliability while in the underground networks their disadvantage lies in the high cost for their construction. The objective of this degree work is to carry out a technical and economic analysis of the semi-insulated overhead network in comparison with the conventional bare conductor network used in the medium voltage network, in order to motivate the E.E.R.C.S to incorporate this type of network. in existing and future projects. In this titling work, five chapters will be developed, with chapter 2 being the analysis of the types of electricity distribution networks, chapter 3 a technical analysis of the medium voltage semi-isolated overhead network. In chapter 4 the design and economic analysis of a section of the medium voltage network with a semi-insulated and bare system is carried out; and finally in chapter 5 the conclusions and recommendations that will allow establishing the viability of the application of the semi-insulated cable in medium voltage overhead networks are presented.Item Estudio técnico y económico de la producción energética fotovoltaica del campus Balzay con y sin el uso de los optimizadores(Universdidad de Cuenca, 2023-05-29) Capón Chicaiza, Jonnathan Xavier; Morocho Vega, Paul Fabian; Albornoz Vintimilla, Claudio EstebanThis paper performs a technical and economic analysis of the energy production generated with and without the use of optimizers within the photovoltaic system installed at the Campus Balzay of the Universidad de Cuenca. The study technically analyzes the performance of the DC-DC optimizers, comparing an array of four panels without connecting the optimizers with an array of four panels considering the connection of the Tigo Energy optimizers, applying different shading patterns the energy production record is obtained for the days of analysis giving as a result a gain factor. The resulting gain factor for each shading pattern is used in conjunction with the plant factor of the photovoltaic system to determine the annual energy that would be obtained with the use of the power optimizers. Finally, the economic study is carried out considering equipment and generation costs.Item Evaluación del impacto de la carga lenta de vehículos eléctricos en la calidad de energía en un tramo de red de distribución de bajo voltaje(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-07-31) Banegas Arias, Daniel Sebastián; Morejón Monteros, Paúl Esteban; Albornoz Vintimilla, Claudio EstebanThis thesis project aims to evaluate the impact of slow charging of electric vehicles (EVs) on the power quality of a low voltage distribution network. With the growing adoption of EVs as a solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, it is crucial to understand how this new energy demand affects the existing electrical infrastructure. The study focuses on analyzing potential problems related to product quality in low voltage networks. The analysis is conducted through modeling and simulation using tools such as Python and OpenDSS. Two EV models, the BYD T3 and the Kia Soul, are selected, and specific charging profiles for each are developed using the Monte Carlo method. Different levels of EV penetration in the network (5%, 10%, and 15%) are examined to evaluate how these integration levels impact transformer demand, voltage levels, flicker, and voltage imbalance. The results show that as EV penetration increases, these indicators worsen. This study provides insight into the impacts that slow EV charging can have on low voltage distribution networks. It contributes to the understanding of the challenges and opportunities presented by the mass adoption of EVs, providing a solid foundation for future research and the development of policies for EV integration into electrical networks. In this way, it supports the transition to more sustainable mobility and the effective reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.Item Influencia de potencia reactiva en el sistema de distribución de la E.E.R.C.S.
