Item Evaluación del grado de filtración apical en conductos vestibulares de molares superiores obturados con técnica de condensación lateral, cono único Mtwo y una combinación de ambas(2013) Alvear Rueda, Iliana Patricia; Pinos Vélez, Katherine Bélgica; Alvarado Cordero, Jacinto JoséThe purpose of this study was to compare the apical sealing ability of three different obturation techniques, lateral condensation, single cone and a combination of both. Ninety buccal molar root canals were used in this study and were divided into three groups of 30 canals (15 mesial, 15 distal ) for the different techniques. The distal and mesial canals were instrumented with Mtwo rotary system following the sequence recommended by the manufacturer to achieve a 25/06 file. Canals of group 1 were obturated with single cone technique 25/06, group 2 was sealed with lateral condensation technique, master cone 25/02 and accessory cones N. 15, and group 3 sealed with master cone Mtwo 25/06 and accessory cones N.15. The sample was subjected to a clearing technique and placed on methylene blue for 3 days to quantify the dye penetration into the apical 3mm and quantify the results on a 0-3 scale. This scale represents the minimum and maximum value of leakage, their equivalents are: 0 = no leakage, 1 = apical leakage in the first apical millimeter, 2 = apical leakage in the second apical millimeter, 3 = apical leakage in the third apical millimeter. ANOVA test was used to determine the difference in microleakage between groups and Tukeytest to pairwise differences. Our results showed 90% of microleakage in single cone sample and 93.3% in the sample positive framework for microleakage in the hybrid technique while the lowest values were observed in the lateral condensation technique (p < 0.05) No significant difference was found between sealing in mesial and distal roots of the same group and comparing them with other groups (p>0 .05)Item Prevalencia de Candida albicans en prótesis totales en pacientes de la Clínica de la Facultad de Odontología y factores asociados. Cuenca, 2014- 2015(Universidad de Cuenca, 2019-12-03) Sangucho Luje, Gardenia Alexandra; Alvarado Cordero, Jacinto JoséObjective: Determine the presence of Candida albicans in the total prostheses and the association between glucose levels, pH and salivary flow of patients attending the clinics of the University of Cuenca in the year 2014 to 2016. Study Type: The study is descriptive type, with a sample of 290 patients, 239 women, 51 men, divided into three age ranges. Methods and Materials: The presence of Candida was determined by means of a culture in Sabouraud Agar and observation under a microscope with a 40X lens. Blood glucose levels were quantified by means of a fasting laboratory test, while salivary Ph using the test strips immersed in saliva samples and salivary flow by collecting saliva not stimulated for a period of 5 minutes in measuring vessels. Tabulation and data analysis were performed in the SPPS. Version 21 with a 95% confidence interval. Results: In the total sample, a prevalence of 39.7% was obtained in patients with candida albicans in their prostheses, predominantly female. Conclusions: the result was not statistically significant when the glycemia level (p = 0.897) and salivary flow (p = 0.05) were correlated with the presence of candida albicans whereas the salivary pH was significant with a Chi square of (p = 0.001) By relating it to C. albicansItem Prevalencia de recesiones gingivales mediante la clasificación de Cairo y Miller en estudiantes de pregrado de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Cuenca en el año 2018(2018) Sisalima Jara, John Patricio; Alvarado Cordero, Jacinto JoséBackground: Gingival recession is defined as the apical shift of the gingival margin with respect to the cementoenamel junction. One of the challenges faced by the oral health professional is the precise diagnosis of the presence or absence of gingival recessions. Objective: To determine the prevalence of gingival recession through Cairo and Miller classification in undergraduate students of the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Cuenca. Materials and Methods: A descriptive-analytical study was carried out. A total of 388 students were analyzed and the prevalence of gingival recessions was determined with both methods and their relationship with demographic variables and periodontal phenotype. The relationship between recessions and variables was evaluated using the chi-square test and Odds Ratio (OR). Results: The prevalence of gingival recession was 47.21% with the Miller diagnostic method and 50.16% with the Cairo diagnostic method. There was a statistically significant association between gingival recession and age group of 25 to 34 years (p= 0.004Miller and p= 0.02Cairo) (OR= 2.86Miller and OR = 3.41Cairo), masculine gender (p= 0.028Miller and p= 0.11Cairo) (OR= 1.67Miller and OR= 1.45Cairo) and periodontal phenotype (p= 0.05Miller and p= 0.04Cairo) (OR= 2.28 Miller and OR= 2.42Cairo). Conclusions: When comparing prevalence between the Miller and Cairo diagnostic methods, it was found that the Cairo diagnostic method is more effective in detecting gingival recessions since it can be used to diagnose recessions in vestibular surfaces and palatal / lingual surfaces
