Item Presencia de alergias y parasitismo intestinal en escolares de las áreas urbanas y rurales de la ciudad de Cuenca y su relación con eosinofilia. The complications not only affect the biologic aspect of this age group but also the standard of living, academic achievement, behavior and social relationships. A descriptive study was made to determine the presence of allergies and intestinal parasitism and its relation with eosinophilia. Coproparasitary serial testing was made to identify some kind of parasite; surveys to parents and tutors were made to identify some kind of subjective symptoms. The study of samples was performed in the clinical laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cuenca. Required biosafety measures were performed as well as the corresponded quality supervision. A Higher prevalence of parasitosis was found in rural areas where the disease was identified in 21, 8% of children compared with the 13,9% found in urban areas. The presence of parasitosis is remarkable in school children, 35,7% of them suffer the disease; predominant parasites found were cysts of histolytic Etamoeba in 36,1% of positive cases, 25% of children were infested by helminths, being the lumbricoides ascaris eggs the most frequent with 13,9%. The presence of eosinophilia was found in 15% of children with helminthiasis
