Artrocentesis de la articulación temporomandibular: indicaciones, técnica, resultados y justificación

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain is a predominant symptom in patients with temporomandibular disorder, and a common cause of chronic orofacial pain. Arthrocentesis of the upper joint space proved to be effective in reducing TMJ-related pain and reestablishing normal mandible range of movement in patients diagnosed with a ‘closed lock". This study describes the diagnostic of the TMJ disorders, indications of arthrocentesis, surgical technique and outcomes. In addition, it presents several case studies evaluated after almost 2O years of the evolution of arthrocentesis.

El electroencefalograma es una herramienta The electroencephalogram is a diagnostic tool that collects and evaluates brain electrical activity through electrodes; Its clínica! application is usually directed to the field of medicine, but in dentistry it allows to evalúate pathologies associated with parafunctional habits such as bruxism, sleep disorders and allows associating masticatory functions with certain cerebral functions. The present article makes a search of the literature in order to determine the current use of this diagnostic system in dentistry and its future perspectives.

The electromyography has been applied to dentistry since the 40’s as a diagnostic method of muscle disorders caused by cra- nial-cervical-faciaí disorders, temporo-mand¡bular disorders, and sleep disorders, among others. This tool provides us in-formation on the muscle electric potential (specially the masseter and temporal mus-cles) during jaw movements. The muscle hyperactivity predisposes the develop of temporomandibular disorders, pain and fatigue; causing discomfort ¡n patients, de creasing the ability of jaw movements and generating greater alteration in the stomatognathic system; for these reasons the dentist must make a correct clinical assess-ment of patients to determine if there are any symptoms for some muscular or neurological damage by electromyographic examination. This literatura review discusses the clinical and diagnostic uses of electromyography in dentistry, in especial by the rehabilitators who performed it for the neurophysiological evaluation of the chewing muscles both physiologically and pathologically.

Nowadays a great variety of ceramic components has been introduced by the dent istry industry. The available ones are composed by: Alumina, Alumina/ Zirconia and Zirconia. When we taIk about esthetic abutment (ceramics), what we really want to achieve is, the refund of a natural appearance to a person that has lost it for different reasons. But these materials also reveal many desirable properties, i ncluding: decrease of the badge accumulation in comparation with titanium grade 2, mínimum thermal conductivity, resistance to the abrasión, color stability and a low corrosión potential. Of the study of these ceramic abutments we can conclude that its use in restorative dentistry is adapted, 'cause, they fulfill the basic requirements, and also, surely in a future not very distant, they will replace completely to the systems of metal lie abutment; this, in face of the necessity of our patients to achieve an esthetic level from their rehabilitations, similar to the natural.
Prótesis híbrida superior a barra fresada y microatornillada (presentación de un caso clínico)

In an edentolous patient or in case of lost teeth because of deep cavities or periodontal disease, there are innovative treatments such as implants with ball-attachment systems, overdentures with bar systems, among others, in which the prominent characteristic is that the patients can remove the prosthesis by themselves. In the case of screwed fixed prosthesis, the aesthetics but above all the function will be affected when the sites where the prosthesis is screwed are on the oclusal side of the teeth. The present report will focus on the use of an overdenture with transmission charge over the bar and implants, which is a good alternative to common clinical procedures.

Relación entre anomalías en el complejo cráneo-cérvico-mandibular, disfunción temporomandibular y oclusión

Cráneo cervico mandibular complex has different degrees of mobility because it is placed above the upper and lower cervical spine which has independent movements one from another. This complex should work in harmony or “orthostatic stability” in order to avoid stressful movements which may hurt ligaments, muscles, and capsule from temporomandibular joint. There is the hypothesis that a wrong position of the mentioned complex can produce changes in dental occlusion, and also temporomandibular disorders, because of simultaneous activation of masticatory muscles, the consequence is changes in mandible, and hyoid bone. Recent evidence refuses that hypothesis because the human body has propioceptors to maintain an orthostatic stability from the complex's asymmetries, and avoid further damage.
Son las resinas Bulk Fill la solución en odontología restauradora?

The aim of the present study was to conduct a literature review of the composition, physical and mechanical properties of resin Bulk Fill and its true impact in dentistry. Literature from Medline database was used through your Pubmed search engine with the key words composite resin Bulk fill, physical properties, mechanical properties. The Bulk fill resins are compouns that allow monoincremental restoration of teeth in the posterior región in cavities up to 4mm deep, requiring only 10 seconds of polymerization, due to the incorporation of light sensitive filters and polymerization accelerators in its composition, which increases its effectiveness. Its physical and mechanical properties are similar to conventional resins and vary according to the manufacturar and fluidity of the resin.
