Asociación entre el índice de discapacidad física y el dolor en pacientes con dolor lumbar crónico - departamento de fisiatría - Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga 2017 - 2018

Abstract

Background: Low back pain constitutes the first cause of incapacity for work and third after respiratory diseases and injuries; Therefore it is important to know their main etiologies and assess the degree of disability that this causes.

General objective: Association between the physical disability grade and pain level in patients with chronic low back pain who assist to the Physiatry Department of the Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga between December 2017 and January 2018.

Methodology: The present study was of observational analytical type, the universe was all the patients who attended the physical rehabilitation area of the Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga between December 2017 and January 2018. The sample comprised a total of 150 patients based on the inclusion criteria. For the analysis, the SPSS 20.0 and Office Excel 2013 programs were used for further analysis of frequencies, percentages and the Chi2 test; Finally, the results were presented through simple and compound tables.

Results: The analysis of the surveys showed that 50.7% of the patients were female, the majority with an age between 55 and 65 years, 21.3% of the respondents were retired and the most frequent diagnosis was lumbar disc herniation ; In addition, it was determined that the majority had a moderate degree of disability and an intensity of pain 7. When performing the Chi2 it was observed that there is a correlation between the level of pain and the degree of disability
