| dc.description | El proyecto da continuidad a la investigación iniciada por los grupos de investigación Ciudad Patrimonio Mundial (CPM) y PreiTour, donde se identifican zonas de concentración de alojamiento mediante Airbnb dentro del centro histórico de Cuenca. A partir de ello, la presente investigación busca: 1) explorar patrones de alojamiento relacionados o no con las edificaciones patrimoniales de la zona; 2) identificar los factores que motivan el uso de Airbnb; 3) revelar los efectos percibidos sobre los edificios patrimoniales y sus alrededores. La metodología es mixta; parte de una revisión de literatura para la comprensión del fenómeno desde un contexto global, y aterriza en el contexto local donde se realiza una constatación física en territorio sobre la existencia del servicio Airbnb dentro de la zona de mayor concentración del Centro Histórico de Cuenca. Además, se realizan entrevistas y encuestas dirigidas a propietarios y personal del GAD municipal para entender sus percepciones y motivaciones respecto a Airbnb. Los resultados permiten entender la relación entre estos usos y las edificaciones patrimoniales (positivos y/o negativos) con especial énfasis en el ámbito residencial dentro de esta área. | |
| dc.description.abstract | This project builds upon research initiated by the World Heritage City (CPM) and PreiTour research groups, which identified areas with high concentrations of Airbnb listings within Cuenca’s historic center. Building on this foundation, the current study aims to: 1) explore accommodation patterns—whether or not linked to the area's heritage buildings; 2) identify the factors driving Airbnb usage; and 3) reveal the perceived impacts on heritage buildings and their surroundings. A mixed-methods approach is employed: it begins with a literature review to understand the phenomenon globally before focusing on the local context, where on-site fieldwork verifies the presence of Airbnb listings within the area of highest concentration in Cuenca’s historic center. Additionally, interviews and surveys are conducted with property owners and municipal government staff to understand their perceptions and motivations regarding Airbnb. The findings shed light on the relationship—whether positive or negative—between these uses and heritage buildings, with a particular focus on the residential aspect of the area. | |
