Abstract
SUMMARY Objectives. To determine the prevalence of burnout syndrome and factors related to the presence of the disease in internal medicine and medical residents at the hospitals, Jose Carrasco Arteaga and Vicente Corral Moscoso in the city of Cuenca.
Material and methods. We used the Maslach Burnout Inventory Human Services Survey test version in Spanish adaptation, the questionnaire has 22 items with Likert-type scale with a seven-grade scale of values that goes from never to every day. The study was completed by 182 respondents: 56 medical residents and 126 interns, of both hospitals.
Results. The prevalence of burnout syndrome was 41.02% whereas the high level of the syndrome occurred in 74.6% of the entire group.

Resumen
Objetivos. Determinar la prevalencia del Síndrome de Burnout y los factores relacionados con la presencia de esta enfermedad en internos y residentes de los hospitales José Carrasco Arteaga y Vicente Corral Moscoso en la ciudad de Cuenca. Material y métodos. Se utilizó el test Maslach Burnout Inventory, la versión Human Services Survey en su adaptación española, un cuestionario que presenta 22 ítems con escalamiento tipo Likert con una dimensión de siete grados que recorre los valores desde nunca hasta todos los días. El estudio se cumplió en 182 entrevistados: 56 Médicos Residentes y 126 Internos, de ambos hospitales. Resultados. La prevalencia del Síndrome de Burnout fue del 41.02% considerando que el nivel alto del síndrome se presentó en el 74,6% de todo el grupo.au
