dc.descriptionAntecedentes: En 2017, el American College of Cardiology (ACC) y American Heart Association (AHA) publicaron una guía para la prevención, detección, evaluación y manejo de hipertensión arterial (HTA) en adultos con nuevos parámetros diagnósticos, lo que resultará en un aumento de la prevalencia de HTA. Objetivo: Determinar la prevalencia de HTA en adultos de las parroquias urbanas de Cuenca con los nuevos criterios del ACC/AHA, y el uso de fármacos antihipertensivos en el 2018. Métodos y materiales: Estudio descriptivo transversal, 15 parroquias urbanas de Cuenca, con una población de 223.798 habitantes mayores a 18 años. La muestra fue de 384 personas. Se excluyó a mujeres gestantes, personas privadas de la libertad, hospitales y cuarteles militares. La definición de HTA se basó en el ACC/AHA. Los instrumentos utilizados fueron tensiómetros, estetoscopios y encuestas. Para analizar los datos se usó Excel y SPSS; los resultados se muestran en frecuencias, porcentajes, desvió estándar y media aritmética. Resultados: El 49,7% de la población es normotensa y el 14.6% tiene presión arterial elevada. La prevalencia de HTA estadio 1 fue de 27,9% (n=107) y estadio 2 de 7,8% (n=30). El 93,6% de sujetos con diagnóstico previo de HTA consumía fármacos antihipertensivos siendo la monoterapia lo más frecuente (61%). El fármaco antihipertensivo más usado es Losartán (11,7%). Conclusiones: La prevalencia de HTA según los criterios del ACC/AHA fue de 35,7%, siendo mayor a la del JNC-8, con un aumento del 12%.es_ES
dc.description.abstractBackground: In 2017, the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and American Heart Association (AHA) published a guide for the prevention, detection, evaluation and management of high blood pressure (HBP) in adults with new diagnostic parameters, resulting in an increase in the prevalence of HBP. Objective: The aim was to determine the prevalence of hypertension in adults of the urban parishes of Cuenca based on the new criteria of the ACC/AHA, and the use of antihypertensive drugs in 2018. Methods and materials: Descriptive cross-sectional study in 15 urban parishes of Cuenca, with a population of 223,798 inhabitants over 18 years old. The sample was formed by 384 people. Pregnant women, persons deprived of liberty, hospitals and military barracks were excluded. The definition of HBP was based on the ACC/AHA guideline. The instruments used were tensiometers, stethoscopes and surveys. Excel and SPSS were used to analyze data; results being shown in frequencies, percentages, standard deviation and arithmetic mean. Results: 49.7% of the population is normotensive and 14.6% have elevated blood pressure. The prevalence of stage 1 hypertension was 27.9% (n = 107) and stage 2, 7.8% (n = 30). 93.6% of subjects with previous diagnosis of HBP consumed antihypertensive drugs, with monotherapy being the most used (61%). Losartan (11.7%) is the most used antihypertensive drug. Conclusions: The prevalence of hypertension according to the criteria of ACC/AHA was 35.7%, being mayor to JNC-8, with an increase of 12%.es_ES
