Abstract
This research addresses children's perception of urban space from the perspective of the right to the city, recognizing children as actors capable of interpreting, giving meaning to, and constructing the city based on their everyday experiences. It stems from the conception of the city as a symbolic system where urban elements acquire meanings that transcend their physical function. The study arises from the limited incorporation of children's voices in urban planning and in educational processes related to the environment. Using a qualitative and interpretive approach, supported by the Q methodology, drawings and narratives from 8- to 10-year-old children at the French School of Cuenca are analyzed. These were obtained using the guide "Right to the City: Learning for Girls and Boys," developed and implemented within the framework of the University of Cuenca's outreach project, "Urban Learning: Guardians of the Right to the City." The objective is to identify the urban symbols they recognize and the meanings they attribute to them, with the purpose of generating inputs that can contribute to the design of more inclusive, equitable urban, educational and community strategies that are sensitive to the needs of children.
