Valoración de población de aves rapaces nocturnas en parroquias urbanas del cantón Cuenca

Abstract

This thesis investigates the presence, diversity and factors that affect nocturnal birds of prey (strigiformes) in urban areas of Cuenca, Ecuador. Three main species were identified: Tyto alba, Asio clamator and Bubo virginianus, with Tyto alba being the most abundant. Urbanization,especially artificiallighting,significantly influences theirbehaviorand distribution, affecting their ability to establish themselves in densely urbanized areas. However, the vegetation and less intervened areas offer essential refuges for these birds. The study uses method ssuchas linear transect sand statistical analyses to assess the population and relevant environmental factors.
