Análisis microbiológico de superficies desinfectadas en el área de maternidad del Centro de Salud “Mariano Estrella”

Abstract

Introduction: Infections associated with healthcare are a serious public health problem, standing out for their high frequency and high impact. Despite rigorous cleaning protocols in critical areas such as maternity, it is vital to ensure their effectiveness through microbiological analysis to protect patients and staff. Objective: To analyze the microbiological status of disinfected surfaces in the maternity area of the Mariano Estrella Health Center. Methodology: Quantitative, observational, descriptive, and transversal research. For microbiological control, 204 samples were collected from disinfected inanimate surfaces in the maternity area, according to ISO 14698-1 and 14698-2 standards using the swab method. In the samples obtained, the number of colony-forming units was determined and microorganisms were identified through biochemical identification tests. Results: The 82.7% of the samples showed microbial growth. The main pathogen identified in the samples was Staphylococcus aureus with 60.44, followed by coagulase negative Staphylococcus with 9.78%, accumulating 70.22%. The areas with the highest bacterial load were the resident room (100%), postpartum room (94.44%) and monitoring room (92.86%). It is considered that the effectiveness of the disinfection process is limited, explained by the high percentage of samples with growth. Conclusion: The high prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus highlights the urgent need to improve disinfection practices in maternity area.
