Abstract
This monograph wishes to study chiaroscuro as a method of introducing the oneiric world
in films. Among the authors (theorists) who speak about the use of this lighting technique
to suggest an internal and dream world are Freud and his study The Interpretation of
Dreams (1900), where he reviews the influence of the psyche on dreams. Also Raúl Ruiz,
in Poéticas del cine (Poetics of Cinema) (2014), where the aesthetics of the oneiric - based
on chiaroscuro - help to explore hidden parts of the characters, as well as different ways
of showing abnormal or unreal situations, such as the dreamlike; and Deleuze (1985),
who delves into the depths and forms of dreams. This study will analyze three films, using
the method of Gentile, Díaz and Ferrari (2007), taken from the book Escenografía
Cinematográfica (Cinematographic Scenography), in which the world of dreams and
chiaroscuro is analyzed based on photography and lighting. This study demonstrates the
practicality of chiaroscuro as a lighting method to recreate the world of dreams in cinema,
and provides elements for the enrichment of films and theoretical knowledge on this
subject for Latin American cinema
Resumen
Esta monografía tiene como objetivo estudiar al claroscuro como método introductorio al
mundo onírico, a través de películas que usan este recurso para mostrar los sueños. Entre
los autores (teóricos) que hablan sobre esta técnica de iluminación para sugerir un mundo
interno y onírico se cuenta con: Freud y su estudio La interpretación de los sueños (1900),
donde revisa la influencia de la psique en los sueños; Raúl Ruiz, en Poéticas del cine
(2014), donde la estética de lo onírico - basado en el claroscuro - ayuda a explorar lo
oculto de los personajes, además de formas distintas de mostrar situaciones anormales -
irreales, como lo onírico; y Deleuze (1985), que profundiza en el fondo y forma de los
sueños. La metodología, en cuanto al análisis fílmico, hace uso del método de Gentile,
Díaz y Ferrari (2007), del libro Escenografía Cinematográfica, donde se establece una
línea de análisis de fotografía e iluminación sobre tres películas seleccionadas, donde se
trata en conjunto el mundo de los sueños y el claroscuro. Este estudio demuestra la
practicidad del claroscuro como método de iluminación para recrear el mundo de los
sueños en el cine, y aporta elementos para el enriquecimiento de filmes y conocimientos
teóricos sobre este tema para el cine latinoamericano
