Percepción de la aceptación a la terapia con insulina en pacientes con diabetes mellitus tipo 2 en el Centro de Salud de Ricaurte. Cuenca, 2023

Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) is a chronic disease in constantly increasing worldwide, insulin is a fundamental pillar of treatment, however, on many occasions, its onset is avoided or delayed by the patient due to the erroneous perception about medication, this phenomenon is known as psychological resistance to insulin, which occurs in up to 30% of patients. Objective: To know the perception of acceptance of insulin therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes at the Ricaurte Health Center, Cuenca. 2023. Methodology: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out, with a sample of 150 patients with DM2 who attend the Ricaurte health center. A questionnaire was applied that contains sociodemographic and clinical variables, and the Spanish version of the Insulin Treatment Appraisal Scale (ITAS) were used to measure the perception of insulin treatment. A database was created in Excel and a statistical analysis was applied in SPSS 29. Results: The poor perception of insulin occurred in 31.33% of the population studied with a mean score of 59.95 ± 9.063 points on the ITAS scale. Among those receiving insulin treatment, the frequency is 17.54% (53.40 ± 9.879 points); in patients without insulin, it is 39.79% (59.95 ± 9.063 points). Conclusions: Diabetic patients who don't use insulin have a worse perception of insulin treatment than those who already use it.
