Abstract
Parental practices implemented in families with children diagnosed with attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) were investigated to establish the relationship between the practices
and two sociodemographic variables: education level and family type. To this aim, a quantitative
correlational research project was proposed, which included a total sample of 30 mothers of
children with ADHD between the ages of 6 and 11 who regularly attend the Specialized Integral Rehabilitation Center (CRIE) and the Child Development Center of the University of Cuenca
(CEDIUC). The Alabama Parenting Questionnaire (APQ) was applied to collect the data. The
results show that although the parents in the sample use positive parental practices, a low parental
involvement level was determined. Also, the values didn’n indicate a correlation between the
variables. Hence, it was concluded that most parents of children with ADHD implement appropriate
child-rearing practices and that the study sample variables, do not influence their parental practices
Resumen
Se investigó las prácticas parentales en familias de niños con Trastorno por Déficit de Atención con Hiperactividad (TDAH), con el objetivo de establecer la relación entre estas y las variables sociodemográficas: nivel de escolaridad y tipo de familia. El estudio fue de tipo no experimental, cuantitativo y correlacional. La población, estuvo conformada por 30 madres de niños con TDAH, entre los 6 y 11 años, que acuden al Centro de Rehabilitación Integral Especializado (CRIE) y el Centro de Desarrollo Infantil de la Universidad de Cuenca (CEDIUC). Se utilizó el Cuestionario sobre Prácticas Parentales de Alabama (APQ). Se encontró que los padres utilizan prácticas positivas, y un nivel bajo de implicación parental, además se descartó la correlación entre las variables, concluyendo que estas familias utilizan prácticas parentales adecuadas para la crianza de sus hijos, y que las variables sociodemográficas estudiadas no determinan las prácticas parentales que utilizan este tipo de familias
