Abstract
The article offers an interpretation of the position of the art historian and sociologist Arnold Hauser regarding the concept and importance of originality in art as an axiological and legitimizing element of artistic productions. It systematizes ideas that are part of a theoretical discussion that is still open.

El artículo ofrece una interpretación de la postura del historiador del arte y sociólogo Arnold Hauser en torno al concepto e importancia de la originalidad en el arte como elemento axiológico y legitimador de las producciones artísticas. Sistematiza ideas que forman parte de una discusión teórica aún abierta.
