Abstract
Greek mythology presents us with a fantastic and idealized past world, full of strong and
brave warriors who fight against abominable beasts, with the aim of trying themselves as
real men and, finally, obtaining glory and showing themselves as superior to their peers .
These works were very appreciated between the subsequent generations of Greeks, and
they took them to want to imitate these mythological characters. Based on the above, this
work seeks to answer the following question. What are really the characteristics that an
ideal man should have and as they are reflected in the different areas of his daily life,
during the archaic and classic periods in Greece? For this purpose, the literary works of
these respective periods will be analyzed, mainly those attributed to Homer, specifically,
the Iliad and the Odyssey, and Hesiod, Work and Days. Likewise, by means of the method
of content analysis, the common elements that these works have with respect to the subject
of man, specifically with everything that refers to the physical and moral characteristics
were to be held. Along with this, certain photographs of the author Gaudenzio Marconi will
also be analyzed for the purpose of pointing out the different characteristics of an «ideal
Greek man» present in the work of him. In this way, Greek man positions himself as an
innate leader, ready for adventure and conflict, but at the same time, he does not forget his
sentimental aspect, because these actions held them to defend his companions and beloved
beings.
Resumen
La mitología griega nos presenta un mundo pasado fantástico e idealizado, lleno de
guerreros fuertes y valientes que, luchan contra bestias abominables con el objetivo de
probarse a sí mismos como hombres de verdad, obtener la gloria y mostrarse como
superiores a sus pares. Estos trabajos fueron muy apreciados entre las generaciones
posteriores de griegos, por lo que los llevaron a querer imitar a estos personajes
mitológicos. A partir de lo expuesto, esta monografía busca responder: ¿cuáles son
realmente las características que debe poseer un hombre ideal y cómo se ven reflejadas en
las distintas áreas de su cotidianidad, durante los períodos arcaico y clásico en Grecia? Para
este propósito, se analizarán las obras literarias atribuidas a Homero, por medio del método
del análisis de contenido, específicamente, La Ilíada y La Odisea, y a Hesíodo, con su
Trabajos y Días. Así mismo, se identificarán los elementos comunes que estas obras poseen
con respecto al tema del hombre, específicamente con todo aquello que se refiera a las
características físicas y morales que debían ostentar. Junto a esto, también se analizarán
algunas fotografías de Gaudenzio Marconi con el propósito de señalar las distintas
características de un «hombre griego ideal» presentes en sus trabajos. De esta manera, el
hombre griego se posiciona a sí mismo como un dirigente innato, dispuesto a la aventura y
al conflicto, pero que a la vez, no olvida su aspecto sentimental, pues estas acciones las
lleva a cabo para defender a sus compañeros y seres amados.
