Percepción del dolor de parto y su relación con la función sexual en las mujeres atendidas en el Hospital Luis Gabriel Dávila

Abstract

Background: Sexual function is a topic that is not addressed at the time of care in prenatal and postnatal care. The type of childbirth, injuries to the perineum and the physiological changes that accompany the puerperium can negatively influence the resumption of a full sexual life. Objective: To determine the relationship between the perception of labor pain and the sexual function of patients who attend the Luis Gabriel Davila Hospital in the city of Tulcán in the period March - May 2022. Methodological design: A quantitative, analytical cross-sectional investigation was carried out, which allowed determining the relationship between the perception of labor pain and sexual function. A form was prepared containing the study variables in relation to sociodemographic data and gynecological data. A validated Likert-type questionnaire was used to assess women's sexual activity (EVAS - M); In relation to labor pain, the visual analog pain scale (VAS) was used. After data collection, the information was reviewed and analyzed using the SPSS22 program. Results: 39.10% of the participants obtained a score of less than 38 points in the EVAS- M evaluation. 94.53% experienced severe labor pain, only 5.47% had moderate pain, according to the EVA´s pain scale. There is a statistically significant relationship between parity (p ≤0.05) and female sexual function. There is no significant statistical relationship (p>0.05) between the perception of labor pain and the sexual function of the patients who were treated at the Luis Gabriel Dávila Hospital in the city of Tulcán between the period March - May 2022. Conclusion: The findings obtained in this research show the importance of the in-depth study of female sexual function, as well as socio-demographic, gynecological and labor pain characteristics. The results obtained are discussed in relation to the results of female sexual function in other contexts.
