Abstract
The role of the family is essential in the sexual education of adolescents, since at this stage the
possibility of risky behaviors that may result in unwanted pregnancy or sexually transmitted
diseases increases. This is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The data collection
technique was the survey, which was validated by experts and applied to a sample of 379 families.
The results showed that for most parents talking about sexuality with their children is synonymous
with shame and this has been transmitted from generation to generation. It was found that 48% of
the children prefer to educate themselves about sexuality, since there is no good communication
with their parents, which allows them to clarify their doubts. It is concluded that for these families
talking about sexuality with their children represents a taboo subject and this continues to be
transferred from parents to children. Consequently, the role of the family is indispensable for the
education and training of adolescents on sexuality matters.
Resumen
El rol de la familia es indispensable en la educación sexual de los adolescentes, ya que en esta
etapa incrementa la posibilidad de conductas de riesgo que pueden traer como consecuencia un
embarazo no deseado o una enfermedad de transmisión sexual. Este estudio es de tipo
descriptivo con enfoque cuantitativo. La técnica de recolección de datos fue la encuesta, este
instrumento fue validado por expertos, y aplicado a una muestra de 379 familias. Los resultados
dieron a conocer que para la mayoría de los padres de familia hablar de sexualidad con sus hijos
es sinónimo de vergüenza y esto ha sido transmitido de generación en generación. Se halló que
el 48% de los hijos prefieren auto educarse en sexualidad, puesto que no existe una buena
comunicación con sus padres, que les permita despejar sus dudas. Se concluye que para dichas
familias hablar de sexualidad con sus hijos representa un tema tabú y esto continúa
transfiriéndose de padres a hijos. En consecuencia, el papel de la familia es indispensable para
la educación y formación del adolescente en temas de sexualidad.
